I would like you to hear a 13 year old sing this song. This is Daneliya Tuleshova from Kazakhstan. She is almost 18 years old and is living in the U.S. I just wanted you to hear her voice singing this song. ua-cam.com/video/wQCa9C0UOWM/v-deo.html Daneliya 13 'Pretty Hurts'.
I was one of the pageant girls/models in this music video (Ms. South Central) and the experience was one of a kind. My favorite part of the experience was that in the auditions, before we knew what the project was, is they asked us really amazing questions. For example, “what sacrifices have you made for beauty?” and other questions which challenged our notions of self worth and value. Absolutely unforgettable time of my life❤ love you, forever Bey.
This song hurts so much because you can tell this comes from her heart. In the video there is a scene of her fake tanning and its the fact that she used to do it all the time in her career, but in recent years now that she has stopped, everyone is saying that she is bleaching her skin, but in reality she is just loving herself more! 😭 Gosh I love her.
@0:30 Vaseline on your teeth is a pagent trick that helps with two things: 1) It keeps your teeth, gums, front facing areas of your mouth moisturized while smiling so much 2) Keeps lipstick from getting on your teeth
In cheerleading we used to put a little vaseline on our teeth to help us remember to smile as well... I think a lot of pageant girls have mentioned the same. Absolutely disgusting taste and I have a hard time wearing lipgloss now because it reminds me of the vaseline on my teeth and lips.
I remember the first time I saw the video, when the question of "What is your aspiration in life?" came up, I responded for myself "to be happy" before she did. When she said it, I cried. I love this song.
Fun fact about this song: It was actually written mostly by Sia. Sia wrote it and recorded vocals for the verses and prechorus and pitched it to both Rihanna and Katy Perry. Katy Perry hadn't seen the e-mail until 2 years late, and Rihanna had the song on hold for 8 months according to Sia. Beyonce, having went through what she has, related deeply to the song and swooped in to purchase it. And now we're here with this beautiful masterpiece!
"my aspiration in life would be to be happy" meanwhile doing things that cause you unhappiness. This was great story telling by Beyoncé, it seems commercial but if we listen properly there's a message that runs so deep. We're all trying to fit into standards created by society for us, because fitting into them is supposedly going to bring happiness.
You are amazing. We all are. As a person with anorexia for 40 years nearly I am tortured by the “perfect” body etc I see on social media but I listen as much as I can to songs like this and try to feel better. We are all Chasing perfection but it’s not something we can or want to catch. ❤️❤️❤️
This song hits because I think everyone can relate. Regardless of gender, age, race, orientation, whether it's the pressure to look a certain way, girls need to be thin, look and dress like this, boys need to be tall, look and act like this, girls need to be passive and subservient and attractive to boys, boys need to be obsessed with money, women and the gym and have no emotion. And even the people that actually fit into the standard are doomed because aging is inescapable, money and power are not guaranteed to last, you can waste your life doing things you can't stand just to get these things because you believe the hype that being rich, popular and attractive will make you happy when it's actually an unwinnable game that will drive you insane if you can't find happiness in yourself.
This song is way ahead of its time!!! 🥺 we need something like this today. Social media/influencers have changed the way we think and how hard we are on ourselves! 😔 what we see online isn’t real all the time but that’s what we want.
Self titled is a masterpiece opening the album with pretty hurts leading into ghost transitioning into haunted and then drunk in love even the track listing was phenomenal
I love seeing people delve into Beyonce and her music, she really puts so much into her music- she wants to uplift everyone and spread awareness about some of the sad stuff in our world and how she wants to change it and do what she can to make everyone feel loved and wanted
Fun Fact: the artist Sia wrote this song, Beyonce just executes really well. Also, she gets credit even for one word or two. I still love the video and overall message.
Hey Audrey! Thank you for still reaction to Beyoncé after some rude comments! Please know that the people that come for your reactions and those who follow you know that you aren't racist and that it's totally okay to not like all songs from an artist! 🐝 This was a beautiful reaction, I completely agree with "people need to hear this". This songs always makes me emotional and makes me think about the pressure society and we ourself put on ourself! As long as we are happy with ourselfs, it doesn't matter what others think you should be! ❤🐝 Also yes, Beyoncé really used to attend beauty pageants until she formed her first girl group with singing when she was 9 years old: "Cutting her teeth in beauty pageants throughout Houston, Texas, Beyonce used the “stage” to overcome her naturally bashful nature. Her father, Mathew, took note of his daughter’s ability to simultaneously perform and execute rigorous dance routines, as well as young Beyonce’s naturally competitive nature, willingness to hear harsh criticism, and harness that energy into improvement rather than the usual pitfalls of child beauty pageants. Due to her light skin tone, her mother Tina noticed Beyonce would be picked on for being “too dark” or “too light,” in her younger years. Tina encouraged Beyonce to pursue pageants and performing to build her confidence. In no time at all, Beyonce’s talent had made a distinct impression on Houston."
No one thought she was ever racist in the comments... She was just not culturally aware of the context or meaning behind Cowboy Carter. When you go in blind on a project, while reacting to something, you will get some pushback.
This song still gets to me deep every time I listen to it,, I made my best friend fell in love with this song ( God rest his soul 😢) and I remember we use to sing together on repeat whenever we are together ❤
Ive listened to this song and watched this music video so much i know it all by heart but i promise you its 6am andni asked my self "What is my aspirations in life' And now ive been crying for 15 minutes cause at first everything i said were the things my family and job expect of me. I just wanna be happy.
As a guy i couldnt really understand or see why people get emotional about it, even though ive had severe dysphoria thats made me completely disengage from people ever being near me. but i thought about my mom for a second and heard "pretty hurts, mama i know nobody told you your worth". Idk if thats what she says but it sounds like that and my eyes started tearing instantly. Women really get beat up for it, and abused in life in general this just makes me think of her struggles with trying to stay strong and clinging to appearance despite how nightmarish life was 😭 we from the trenches and she always tried to hold it together. Shes actually super poor and HAS gotten surgery before. She intensely dislikes herself. As an adult that i am now she was able to admit that she doesnt have love for herself. She was a foster child her whole life. Didnt have any parent to instill mindsets and self love into her, no protection. She grew up in chaos, abusive men, shes been... Rd before. Shes been physically beaten. Shes been abandoned, left, yelled at, talk down to, abused for her kindness. Shes even died before and came back to life, my siblings were there when it happened in a hospital. I was too young, they're all 10-14+ older than me. Putting songs in the context of either my life or others always makes it emotional. Ive learned over time as i also became healthy and developed an identity that she doesnt have one or know whats she wants. Shes always been there for others shes never been by herself to develop it. I notice a lot of people who have no identity and depressed they simply have aspirations to simply be happy or perfect imaged like in this video 😭 no ones asked her what hers were or cared for her 😭😭😭 besides me c: but it took a long time before I did because I had no connection with her and depressed myself until 20 (me now)
I’m not gone lie I love this song bc it bring out the fact that just cuz u look good don’t mean everything is good. They always think attractive people don’t have problems.
This song was made famous by Beyoncé but its original singer-songwriter is Sia... There is a special music track where the two of them sing this song together
Congratulations, Queen Beyonce, on all your success. As an independent thinker, I've truly enjoyed your concerts, movies, merch, and black history lessons. Haters, please get a life.❤😉😊
Funny that you are doing a reaction to this song now after cowboy carter bc the album cover keeps reminding me of this song. With how meticulous Beyonce is wouldn't be surprised if the sash on her on the album cover references that line in this video "perfection is a disease of a nation...try to fix something but you can't fix what you can't see, it's the soul that needs the surgery...pretty hurts....pageant the pain away, this time I'm gonna take the crown without falling down"- definitely think this album was some kind of catharsis for her- so much more to be said about that album cover, so deep of her. Each song has like double triple meanings, well thought out
You should watch Chloe and Halle perform this on their UA-cam channel. They were just kids singing this song with such perfection. It’s how Beyonce discovered them.

wow that’s incredible!!!
Love that
Nice background info.
Wow omg
Wow
FUN FACT all those trophies in the video that were behind her are her real life Pageant, and Talent Show Trophies she won as a little girl.
i’m pretty sure they were rented cause she wasn’t supposed to smash them hdjdfh
This song hurts so much because you can tell this comes from her heart. Beyoncé has been doing talent shows.Ever since she was a little girl she won every talent show. She has ever competed in except star search
@0:30 Vaseline on your teeth is a pagent trick that helps with two things: 1) It keeps your teeth, gums, front facing areas of your mouth moisturized while smiling so much 2) Keeps lipstick from getting on your teeth
I still do it lol
In cheerleading we used to put a little vaseline on our teeth to help us remember to smile as well... I think a lot of pageant girls have mentioned the same. Absolutely disgusting taste and I have a hard time wearing lipgloss now because it reminds me of the vaseline on my teeth and lips.
Is that good for the teeth? Also won't u accidentally ingest some of it when u paste it on ur teeth?
I had NO CLUE! Is it super unhealthy to do all the time?
Even when Beyoncé was trying to sing without confidence, she sounded better than 95% of today’s singers.
Beyonce self titled is literally a masterpiece
You should react to Sandcasles sometime. You can feel the pain in that one.
she already did. She reacted to the whole lemonade album
@@zs_2390 Thanks! I see it coming up on the 12th.
This reaction is exactly why Pretty Hurts will always be one of my favorite Beyoncé songs and videos EVER. Super spot on every single thing.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love your Beyonce reactions you're always so respectful and kind to her!!
If we really listen to this song there's no way we won't come away shaken by it. it's very deep 💔
I remember the first time I saw the video, when the question of "What is your aspiration in life?" came up, I responded for myself "to be happy" before she did. When she said it, I cried. I love this song.
This is the main reason why I’m a Beyonce fan. She puts out songs that are meaningful and aiming to uplift women.
100% and she never follows trends, she does what she wants to do and all her music has meaning !!
This is why I will always love and adore Beyonce
This song is so powerful! ❤

Such a powerful song
One of my favorite ballads of all time… written by the incomparable Sia and directed by the visionary Melina Matsoukas 😭🙌🏾😍
Please😭I literally always cry when she gets asked “what is your aspiration in life?” I’ve been saying that for years I just want to be happy
I love this song, is wrote by another singer called SIA. The lyrics is really good.
Essa música é extremamente forte. Obrigada Sia por escrevê-la e a Bey por interpretá-la ❤
Hi from Brasil 🇧🇷
Her song Jealous has also a great meaning. You should listen to it !
AHHH I love that song! That whole album is amazing!
Try to fix something but you cant fix what you can't see...it's the soul that needs the surgery 😭😭😭😭😭these lines had me crying
Beyonce's best album in my opinion, and a killer opening to it. And an album where the video form of it is just as rewarding as the audio form.
You are amazing. We all are. As a person with anorexia for 40 years nearly I am tortured by the “perfect” body etc I see on social media but I listen as much as I can to songs like this and try to feel better. We are all Chasing perfection but it’s not something we can or want to catch. ❤️❤️❤️

This is one of her best songs and videos, I always tear up watching it
I lol'd when you called Oscar winner Harvey Keitel creepy old man 😂
Lmao 😭😭😭
When watched in context she drags the trophy unto the next music video Drunk in love. There are many theories on the meaning behind it
It's the dog in the background for me! 😂
This song is way ahead of its time!!! 🥺 we need something like this today. Social media/influencers have changed the way we think and how hard we are on ourselves! 😔 what we see online isn’t real all the time but that’s what we want.
I agree, this video was so ahead of this time. And the fact that you got women losing their life to have the perfect body. It's so sad
Well thank Sia for writing it
@@NANYADAMBUZNIS OR i can do both! Beyoncé delivered the song to us beautifully and I can acknowledge that too!
@@NANYADAMBUZNIS ok, but we talking about beyonce.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Beyoncé song!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊

Pretty Hurts is my fave song from the self titled since it was released back in 2013. It has such a great meaning. 😪😪

This is a very powerful song.
