    Was told to replace a indoor fan motor 230v 3ph. Found motor single phasing. Power all 3 legs through contactor. One leg drop out at motor. Found bad wire . It blew like a fuse. . Repaired wire and motor ran Amp ok. Was told to replace motor. Lots of guys are quick to condem parts.
    I can tell you are not one of them. 👌💯💥🔧

    After 3 VFDs no one until you bothered to open the motor peckerhead (terminal box), wow.

    Good find on the root cause.❤️

    Nice!! Does anyone repair the VFDs or just junk them? Usually not hard to repair (IGBT modules blow when shorted), but probably not a market there for repaired VFDs. Even though IGBTs can be cheap to source.

      I’ve never considered it. 🤔

      @@restaurantrepairs Cool, didn't know if you had the time, interest or even if you could do a repair and install it. But for sure Digikey or Mouser would have the parts. But if more than the IGBT blows, would take too much time and better to swap out. But, if you ever get in a spot and there is a long lead time and wanted to give it a shot, let me know I can try to help you do it, if you wanted to.

    I wonder if the VFD has some sort of internal fuse that could be fixed / replaced?

    • @restaurantrepairs
      @restaurantrepairs  3 місяці тому

      @@CubbyTech tech support said they could say it was the motor short definitely but since it trip when only power is applied to it obviously it took a hit it couldn’t absorb and voltage has blown another way thru the circuitry then as designed. Would be curious for a real electrical engineer to get eyes on it. Them thangs expensive 😂

    Did u bypass vfd till u get new one or to test motor?

    • @restaurantrepairs
      @restaurantrepairs  3 місяці тому +2

      Tested the motor yes. Left it bypassed no. Those giant direct drive motors DONT handle hammer starts. They over amp and cause all sorts of issues and wear down the motor. If it was just on 24/7 maybe but had a long convo with the Captivaire folks and they were adamant. Even just the odd overnight and startup in the am was a hell no from them. Overnighting the part. Thankfully it’s the supply and not the exhaust.

      @bensreferigeration 3 місяці тому +2

      @@restaurantrepairs good to know. We leave ours on 24/7 so not as much of an issue. Only big captive problem I had on same looking system ended up being a bad cat 5 wire from controller to vfd. Captive air tech support is great.
