    Mahalo nui loa (thank you so much) for all the time you put forth to help us. I'm happy to say that I successfully completed this exercise. It was strange that 2:15 and 2:30 breathholds felt more difficult and the final 3 min one was very easy. But I know from you that it's a matter of relaxing (the final breathhold I didn't notice any contractions until after 2 min and after 10 secs I was able to relax through the contractions. By your 10 second countdown I actually began shaking my fists and jumping up and down with joy). While the first progressions breathhold felt like previous attempts, the last breathhold made me feel like I could hold my breath for much longer! I'm very grateful for you!

      Congrats on this, but just a heads up on this, if sometimes (not necessarily this 3 min breath hold case) you feel much more easier at the end of your dive or breath hold, that could be a sign of low O2 level, and consequently a LMC or BO. Having said that, your 3 min case this time might or might not be the case. Safe dive and congrats again.

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  3 роки тому +2

      @@xuanzhang3377 the more breathholds or dives we do in one session, the bigger the chance we become hypoxic because we're getting tired. But in this case for beginners to intermediate (even if the title says advanced) there is little risk for BO since for beginners it's always Co2 that stops you not o2. For dives however it's another story since you cannot just surface whenever you want. This table is meant for dry static, not for diving.✌️

      great. but change your mindset. your worst enemy is YOU. Do not "push" yourself. That's not what we do in freediving. Using this word alone gives you anxiety. Great dry breath hold training and thanks for the count down so I didn't have to worry about the time. Started to have contractions in the last 15-40 seconds towards the end of each breath hold, depending on how long the breath hold was. My tidal breathes were pretty much normal after recovery breathes. I know my PB was 4 min 15 seconds, but that was a torture, if I were to hold longer this time, it would have been a bit easier than that of my PB. Anyway, I would say 3 min is easy and tolerable, but I wouldn't say it's very easy as I had contractions after all. Cheers👍

    Hey Gert, I'm having trouble bringing my hold time to the water.
    On my couch: 2m45s.
    In water (72°f spring): 45s, maybe 1m tops.
    Is it the temp?
    Is it the excursion?
    Is the confidence?

      it's 2 different things. diving while holding your breath isn't the same as holding your breath. Long story short: you need to learn the skill of freediving. Will make video about this soon !

      I'm curious to learn how to apply the skill of relaxation to actual free diving (I dive for spearfishing myself, but figure it's better to learn from freedivers than spearfishers)

    NOW we are talking =) I don't know if I will be able to reach 3min in my current (and not very good) general condition, but our battle will be legendary x'D
    Back in the day when I was in highschool (like, 12 years ago), I remember holding my breath for almost 5min30 during class (yeah, I was bored), but now it's more like 2min30 (I just try it ounce a few days ago).

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  3 роки тому

      let us know about the battle haha. Serious, don't focus on numbers.. just go with the feeling, and numbers will come, but only if they are not your end goal. Peace.

      @@gertleroy Mission completed, the battle is over =) But I didn't respect the full processus tho, because I did the 3min olding immediately after the 2min ;) I didn't think I could reach that level this soon to be honest.
      I didn't really have contractions, maybe just 1 or 2 in the very last seconds, but only because (I don't know why) when I do it, I feel very comfortable for a few seconds. So, it helps a little bit.

    • @gertleroy
      @gertleroy  Рік тому

      because building Co2 tolerance is what you want. for health and endurance purposes. you don't learn anything with hyperventilation. and you can't use it in the water because of high risk of Blacking out.
