This is coming from someone who has been suicidal; someone who is suicidal wants to take their own life to relieve their own suffering. Chist did not take his own life but gave it to relieve our suffering.
Acts 14:22 we must go through many hardships to inherit the kingdom of God
Christ came to relieve our eternal suffering of Hell so that we can go to heaven !
So true, your comment just made me realise, it's like calling firefighters that go into sure danger, suicidal. "I'm willing to die to save people" is very different yes.

Mike, I walk 30 minutes every evening after work. I listen to.your lessons as I walk. Sometimes I will listen to the same lesson several times throughout the week. Thank you for good, solid Bible teaching. I'm soaking it up and am getting fed.

Another excellent Q&A stream. As a complimentarian, I think women are desperately needed to teach other (younger) women. We need more of that because the young women in this day and age are being influence so much by the world that they destroy lives for lack of mentors.
That is very biblical too, Titus 2:3-5, as long as it is just focused towards the women

Someone here who was suicidal before getting saved: sacrifice brings hope for someone to be saved. Suicide is a hopelessness because you think you can’t ever be saved.

There’s a huge difference between suicide and sacrifice.
And some similarities. Some people who commit suicide think they are helping the world as well as relieving themselves of more suffering.

I know you don’t believe this, but killing oneself is never “helping the world”. It is NEVER a sacrifice that God calls anyone to do.
Some people are master justifiers and will come up with any excuse, but no excuse with excuse them when they stand before the Judge.
Suicide is throwing away the precious life God gave you and ultimately spitting in His face.
@@FlyTour69 I never said it was God's will. It's how people come to the decision to off themselves. "The world would be a better place and I would be better off, too."
We are all on a quest to find peace and happiness. Sometimes the standard for that is extremely low. We are all doing what we think is right, at the time. Forgiveness is always the key to improvement because when we forgive others, we know we are forgiven.
"For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."
When you see others as worthless, you will see yourself the same way.
@@robertdouglas8895 Not always. I’ve had a family member kill herself just because she got in an argument with her best friend and that was the only reason. Sure some suicides happen because people think about suicide constantly and don’t get help for mental illnesses that cause them to think this way, but there’s also a lot of suicides that happen because of spur of the moment decisions.
@@robertdouglas8895I think you've got it backward. We actually are able to love others as we are able to love ourselves - in a healthy way. We are often told we must love ourselves, however, Christ's guideline is to love your neighbor AS you love yourself.
The presupposition is that we all actually love ourselves.
This is why we get so disappointed and frustrated, even sometimes lashing out at ourselves.
If we actually didn't love ourselves, we wouldn't want others to love us, express admiration to us, etc. The fact that we are upset for not measuring up, means we love ourselves and WANT to be someone that measures up.
Self love evidences itself in conflicting and "backward" ways. Whether it be laziness, workaholism, or even suicide, it traces to self love.

RE: question 4. I wonder if the shame of physical nakedness, and desire to cover it, is correlated with the shame of having their sin exposed and not wanting it to be known or revealed to God. Just a thought.
I immediately sent the pride= silent but deadly fart to my son. 😂 That is gold for kids. I use comedy to connect him to his faith and that is perfect.

Claiming Christ's sacrifice on the cross was either child abuse or a bloodthirsty act is a typical response from the Islamic worldview. However, the Father was pleased to crush* the Son, putting [the Son] to grief; if the Son would render Himself [as] a guilt offering, the Father will see the Son's offspring, the Father would prelong the Son's days, and the good pleasure of the Father will prosper in the Son's hand. (Isaiah 53:10) *H1792 - דָּכָא dâkâʼ, daw-kaw'; a primitive root (compare H1794); to crumble; transitively, to bruise (literally or figuratively):-beat to pieces, break (in pieces), bruise, contrite, crush, destroy, humble, oppress, smite.
The answer on why we should pray is fantastic. I need to hold onto that!

I will one up that. If Jesus hadn’t have risen from the grave, then we’d all still be in our sins and nobody would be saved.

I still remember phone numbers from the 90s, but don't know any from today except my own.
Years ago I came to the same conclusion about Jesus’ eternal state after the cross that you point out in question #1
That Jesus is forever in human form after the cross. Yes exalted and on the throne.
But He doesn’t return to what he was prior to being born in the flesh.
He gave up His previous eternal state of existence in order to become a flesh and blood man and after the cross He doesn’t just pick up His previous existence again, but will be forever in a human glorified body.
I have said this for years to a select few people, because I had never heard anyone say this before, I didn’t mention it to people I thought couldn’t handle thinking about it biblically.
I’m glad to finally hear someone else say this. It literally takes a load off of my theological mind that I actually came to the right conclusion and I wasn’t thinking up some kind of heresy. lol

In my opinion, the statement about the "lost weekend" leaves out a question that is not easy to answer. How does time continue after death? Does the 24-hour rhythm continue or does time end with death? That is my specific question to Mike Winger: What is your eschatological view of the connection between time and eternity, and when does eternity begin.
Thinking about this today, someone asked when the new covenant started? I agree w you that the tearing of the veil, the resurrection, Pentecost were all movements of the new covenant. I want to throw in there Communion as an aspect of the new covenant initiation as well. 1 Corinthians 11:25 “this cup is the new covenant in my blood…”

The New Covenant was made with Israel and Judah. Gentiles can be grafted in to the covenants through faith in Jesus. Is it possible the New Covenant doesn’t begin until Jesus returns? Jeremiah 31.
God’s Covenants do not ‘end,’ per se…He IS forever and His Word remains forever; therefore, every covenant is still as valid as the others. The actual person/people the covenant was made with could be considered ‘ended,’ but God is still alive, so the covenants stand.
A Christian’s duty is to take in the Yoke of the Covenants next to/beside our Savior, Who carries the majority of the ‘load.’..🙏

Q11: I'm in my 60's and have taught SS most of my adult life. Before the lockdown, I was attended a church that had less than 100 attendees. I taught most every Sunday morning for years, until I finally had to take a break. Not a single man in that church would step up and teach for a few weeks. But, a wonderful, intelligent woman stepped up and volunteered to do it, and even though I am firmly in the complementarian camp and agree 100% that women can't lead or teach men in church, I let her do it. Was this wrong? Should I just suspended the class until I was rested and could continue?

Would you please address the newest Bible translation by John MacArthur… Legacy Standard Bible. Although I am not a Calvinist, I am curious if that translation is Calvinistic leaning.
I see it this way. If we stand before God as we are we would die. But God loved us so He died to MAKE us clean. And now we can stand before God and live in the righteousness of Jesus.

Regarding Q. 10, In terms of commentaries, ones that I can recommend that are one volume are the Believer's Bible Commentary, Moody Bible Commentary and the Macarthur Bible Commentary for good, expositional commentary on the whole Bible. For more applicable or pastoral style commentaries, I would recommend the two-volume Bible commentary by Warren Wiersbe. For more on the cultural and historical background to the Bible, I would recommend the two-volume IVP Bible Backgrounds Commentary and the Baker Illustrated Bible Background Commentary. For a larger series on the whole Bible, the 13-volume Zondervan's Expositor's Bible Commentary is a very useful resource for a more in-depth dive into the scriptures.

What if all of it was/is the fulfillment of the covenant(s)? And what if there was no chronological ending and starting point for the covenants? What if the context of one covenant becoming old is the same as the context of the old man and new man? What if the new covenant is just as old as the old covenant and it's the same one that came to Abraham?
I think the dispensational view of soteriology in the covenants that Mike explores here is difficult to exactly align with the text because it's not taught there.

I read a person calling “God’s Wrath” as being “mad” at us…I’m like go is not emotionally mad at us…God’s Wrath is righteous and specific against sin…not punishment for disobedience
My husband really really likes the ESV Expository Commentary set because they have several different authors who have deep dived into specific books. The full set is not complete yet though. I believe Genesis comes out in 2025.
#4, wonder if the eating from the tree of good and evil change their awareness....to experience shame of wrong doing they did not have before? All actions were pure and innocent, and then after that act, not any longer?

Mike I've got a question for you. When I first Started reading the Bible and I went through the 4 gospels I used to tear up and be really uncomfortable reading through Jesus dying on the cross. I've read them many times now but I don't get that feeling anymore. It may be a dumb question but is there something wrong with me now or is it just cause I'm used to reading it? What do you think?
I think you just got used to it. Unfortunately I have that situation too. Don't beat yourself up, thinking you need to feel emotional every time you read about the amazing acts of love that God did for us, as unworthy as we are to have it. Just bask in the happiness you now have because of it.

I am a Christian, and I strongly love the Lord. But I believe that I am a slave to sin. Yes just as much as I was before I was before I found Christ. I just have his spirit to help guide me to overcome my sin. And when I can't overcome sins I commit my sins to Christ for forgive. The Holy Spirit helps me to grow, I know I will never be holy until the end comes and God restores me.
@@jimmyburdan2851you're not. Read Romans 5 and 6. Or just the whole thing. I'm not saying we don't still mess up, but don't have a low view of God's grace in your life. It renders sin powerless, according to Romans 6:6.

Not sure where the verse is that says God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble, just wondering if trying to counter every objection to the the gospel is necessary, Jesus told his disciples to wipe off the dust of their feet where people resist the gospel, Intercede for them with prayers like “fill their faces with shame that they will call upon your name, or melt and turn their heart to the kingdom of God. Not sure where the line is between trying to bring enough truth to them and praying that God would convict them until they know He is dealing with them and have a clear path of repentance
My dad always explained to me that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed, The New Testament is the Old Testament revealed, and Jesus fulfilled both. I don't know if that's accurate but it sounded logical to me. What are your thoughts on this?
Q- Hi Mike, my aunt has a severe mental handicap & when I talk to her about Jesus & the gospel, I can’t tell if she’s really grasping it. She seems uninterested and her health is going downhill fast these days. Looking for some biblical encouragement within this situation.
Unfortunately, you cannot improve her health nor mental faculties. You'll have to trust God that He is good and just and will make the wisest decision regarding her salvation.

I’m just trying to understand how the gospel applies to someone who seems to have little or no ability to intellectually receive and accept it. Especially in the case of someone like my aunt, who has been this way her entire life. I can’t find anything in the Bible that really relates to this type of situation. I know that some people believe in the “age of accountability” and so some might argue that this concept would also apply to someone of little intelligence, but the “age of accountability” is really a thing of debate. I just think this is something that isn’t talked about much in the church body, but the concern weighs heavy on many believers who have loved ones with intellectual disabilities. I thought maybe Mike would have some encouraging scripture to offer that I am missing.
Well, @@seaglass.jen86 , consider a little baby or toddler who accidentally dies. God will not hold the baby accountable for sinning against Him because the little one cannot understand.
It is the same way with adults who don't have the mental capacity to understand concepts like sin, redemption, repentance,and salvation. If that individual dies, God will not hold him/her accountable.
Jesus' sacrifice on the cross at Calvary is more than enough for a deceased baby's, or deceased mentally incapacitated adult's, sin. Remember: God is kind and merciful and loving and compassionate toward those who don't have the mental capacity to understand the gospel.
God is good, great, kind, wise, and merciful,@@seaglass.jen86 . If someone (an infant, a mentally incapacitated adult, etc.) is not capable of ever understanding the gospel, He won't hold them (babies, mentally retarded people, etc.) accountable due to the sufficiency of Jesus' work on the cross at Calvary.

Hey Mike! Can you expound upon what you meant when you said (paraphrasing) that, when Jesus became human, he became human forever? I've never really considered that. Am I right to understand this to mean that God the Son, when he became flesh, changed His nature, irrevocably, becoming partially human forever?
The knowledge of sin brought the shame of them being naked, the innocence was lost, thru the knowledge of right and wrong.
Even now there is shame when we sin is it not?
There was nothing wrong with their nakedness. Remember: they didn't themselves from each other. They felt shame and hid themselves from God.

I have been thinking about question number 4 in my mind for some time now, but I am not sure what to think about nakedness in light of what the Bible says about it. Here in Finland it is normal to go to a sauna completely naked even with total strangers, especially in public swimming pool buildings. It is also normal for little kids under the age of 6 to be temporarily naked in beaches when they change their clothing to swimming suits. I have only recently started questioning if Christians are allowed to go to sauna naked. When I am naked in those situations, I don't feel any shame and it feels perfectly normal, but when I think about what the Bible says about nakedness, I am not so sure about it anymore. Does anyone have any insight or opinions about this? Preferably someone who is in the same kind of situation as I.

I don't know how somebody could think Jesus' death was easy if they knew anything about it. There was nothing easy about crucifixion: Being flogged, having nails driven through your body to attach you to a couple pieces of wood, having to hold yourself up just to take a breath. The Romans had pretty much perfected the art of tortuous death.
And that's only the physical part of the suffering He went through. Imagine having to endure the infinite wrath of God that was meant for us as well.

6:20 I can understand when people say Jesus Christ's death on the cross was suicide because He says it himself that He that he willingly gives up his life but He also says he willingly takes it back. I would basically respond to what if in a movie where a person is going to sacrifice themselves but they can or they will come back to life, like we see a lot in Disney movies, did they commit suicide or they sacrifice themselves? The answer would be Jesus Christ sacrificed himself not committed suicide because suicide is ending your life and you're not coming back.

The problem with saying when did the Old Covenant end is that those who ask that question and believe that seem to teach a false doctrine attached to it. They will teach that because we are not under the Old Covenant we don't have to worry about obeying any of the Ten Commandments. (Of course, the O.T. system of animal sacrifice was done away with as well as the dietary laws were done away with when Jesus died on the cross.) Certain individuals teach that we are not under law but grace (Which I believe as well, but believe we should obey what Jesus commanded us to do.), they assume because we are not under law we don't have to obey any of those commands. Is it alright then if we commit adultery because we are not under the Old Covenant, or any of the other moral commands of God? It is absurd to think that we can disobey any of those commands except the Sabbath.(The sabbath is done away with). I have heard believers say that down through the years, that we are not under law so keeping any of that is legalism. Jesus brings us into deeper meaning of the Ten Commandments and said that if we hate someone or call them a fool we are in danger of the judgement (Just read the Sermon of the Mount (Matthew 5-7 chapters). We should know that all of the Ten Commandments except the Sabbath are enjoined upon us according to the N.T. In fact, those that believe in the Great Commission will sometimes leave out verse Matthew 28: 20. If we take the Great Commission seriously we must include verse 20 in that context. So what does it remind us of? Matthew 28: 20 "Teaching them to keep all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (LSB), that is what Jesus said.
Something to think about when it comes to the law(Ten Commandments)
Before the law was given was it wrong or a sin to murder someone?

Yes it was and so much more that was wrong and sinful.
There were nations that existed before the law was given that had some of the same laws that are found in the Ten Commandments. It’s not like murder was ok before the law was given.
God was setting up a new nation and giving them a foundation for their governmental system that they would live by.
Jesus came and not only showed that no one has or can live out the 10 commandments perfectly as required, he then shows that it’s actually more than what’s written, so no murder isn’t just physically killing somebody but it’s just hating someone.
He show it is completely impossible for anyone to be perfect and actually follow the law, except for God, which He was in the flesh.
When someone is saved it is still impossible for them to follow the law. That does not give them a license to sin though.
Because they are saved and have the Holy Spirit they will seek to do what Jesus said summed up the entire law, to love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and to love your neighbor as yourself.
If you live by this command you will naturally please God without the law(Ten Commandments).
The law is a mirror to show us how sinful we are, not to make us clean.
Our faith in Jesus makes us clean.

Jesus died to save us from sin and He alone is the Savior. Jesus told us we must be born again of the Spirit (John 3: 3, 5). There is one way to check and see if we are genuinely born again and saved from sin. This is how we know we are in him." (CEB). It is true that before we came to Christ the Lord we couldn't keep God's commands. I know that because I came to Jesus as my Lord and Savor I couldn't stop using filthy and foul language. But. when I got saved and born of the Spirit there was a change. I stopped the filthy and foul language. I stopped smoking, I stopped a number of things that were sinful and wrong. I received a new nature and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to enable me to live a holy life according to God's word just like it said in I John 2: 4 "The one who claims, “I know him,” while not keeping his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in this person." Yes the true believer is enabled to live above those things of the old life because they have become a new creature in Christ. II Corinthians 5: 17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (KJV). Grace does not give us a license to sin. Romans 6: 1-2 "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?,2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?"

Thanks Mike for trying to be faithful to the Bible. Someone recommended me another "pastor" on UA-cam so I checked out some videos. The guy makes a show of doing a bunch of casting out demons and gives terrible "sermons" that don't focus on Jesus. They're was one where he just listed off a zillion characteristics of a "jezebel", most of which weren't even things the Bible said jezebel said or did. I questioned him in the comments on that and he first told me that he understood me than me because he had his experience and I "only" had the Bible. Then when I challenged that mindset, he told me to "shut up and take a hike." He's the most cult-like I've encountered in UA-cam to this point, but it does seem like more people tend to be closer to him than you. So thanks for being real and trying to keep the Bible in the front where it belongs.

4 the cognition of an animal is different from the cognition of a human. Man before the Fall had a similar innocence as the animals had, hence no awareness of our nakedness. The Fall brought an awareness of sin in such a way where we are not innocent any longer
I will say that I’ve recently seen a corrupt judge in action, who’s only concern was to preserve their public image and not to follow the law, forcing people to delete evidence of wrongdoing with the threat to those peoples freedoms and safety. Witnessing that makes me a lot more grateful that God’s justice is not corrupt. We might squirm a bit and feel uncomfortable when we don’t agree on something, but God isn’t trying to destroy evidence to make himself look better.
Mike: The problem with saying that the Matthew "zombies" passage is historical is that it conflicts with Paul's statement in 1 Corinthians 15:20 that Christ's Resurrection is the "first fruits" of all who will be raised from the dead. Christ is raised PRIOR to all others in the Final Resurrection. But the raised saints in Matthew are raised PRIOR to Jesus' Resurrection, assuming that the raised saints experience the same kind of resurrection that Jesus did. But this would be a contradiction in the Bible to have Matthew disagreeing with Paul, which would violate the principle of inerrancy. Instead, it is best to think of Matthew 27:52-53 as prophecy anticipating the final resurrection of all who will experience the kind of Resurrection Jesus experiences; that is, a resurrection that will not lead to further death. Alternatively, Lazarus and Jairus' daughter did not experience that kind of resurrection. Instead, they experienced a resuscitation, whereby Lazarus and Jairus eventually died again. This is not happening to Jesus, and it will not happen to believing Christians in the eschaton. So, your only alternative is to say that the raised saints only experienced a resuscitation, which eventually led to death again. If this is so, it makes no sense as to why Matthew would place this story here, tied to Christ's own resurrection (NOT a resuscitation). It is better to think of this as a prophecy; whereby the scene described is like "special effects," as Michael Licona puts it, much like the compositional device used by Greco-Roman writers who spoke of weird, unusual events at the death of Caesar, to indicate something of the greatness of Caesar. With the compositional device interpretation, everything fits. The traditional view just ties people up in knots.
Question 6: Godly v. human perspective. God is not limited to time. That is a human point of understanding. God therefore does not need ( via time)…to limit His old covenant by it, and need it to immediately be replaced by the new covenant…this would subject God to the influence of time. I am thankful that God is outside of space, TIME, and matter.

On nakedness, I think there’s still nothing inherently wrong with nakedness. It’s a good and natural state. But I believe that sin brings shame and insecurity, so there’s a desire to cover up, etc. A slightly different way of thinking than Mike says.
Appreciate you. After listening to Licona, I dont think you accurately represented his position and put it in the worst light possible. Don't believe at all it was malicious, but after finding Licona and disagreeing even with him, I feel it would be worthwhile to understand his position better before referencing his work in such a negative light. Accusing him of fabricating literary devices is a tall charge.
