Corey Pavin was always fun to watch, totally a class act. Rocking the 792 VAS sticks was an added bonus.
As I remember, Corey Pavin was always lurking near the lead of many of the majors. He just never put together that whatever combination that could take him to the big win until this US Open. I'm really happy he achieved one of his life's goals, winning a major championship. I will always remember him as a very tough competitor.
About 15 years ago I had just landed at the airport in Vegas and was the first off the plane and raced down to the baggage claim to get my luggage as well as my sticks. When I got there no one was around except some guy on his cell phone. As we waited I noticed that it was Corey, and saw him look at me as I acknowledged him. He seemed to be waiting for me to come up to him but I didn't want to be that guy, even though I was a huge fan, being smallish of stature too. Just then the baggage started coming out and it just happened his clubs were next to mine. As we both reached in to lift them off he looked at me again and smiled. At that point I couldn't hold it in any longer and said, "Corey, I know you probably still hear people mention that shot at the 95 US Open. but I would just like to say you're still my hero. You showed me that you don't have to be big and strong to compete if you stay strong mentally, and stay the course. Up to that point I had seriously considered quitting the game. 15 years later, and in my mid 60's, I'm enjoying the game more then ever. Thank you sir. Oh, and you're still my hero!

This victory by the legendary Corey Pavin meant more to me than any other player winning a major.
I really enjoy watching Corey's U.S. Open victory in 95 over & over. Just think, Corey Pavin U.S.Open Champion. What a great legend of the game.
Whatever the shot called for, he could hit it. He's one of the last pure practitioners of the way golf was once played. Slinging a high draw or feathering a low cut, it did not matter: Corey could hit it. He "played" golf.
Too right, he was a joy to watch. Watched him at Lytham St Anne's a year later in a practice round.... I watched him hit 4 different tee shots in a row... Fade, draw, stinger etc... All ended up within 10 yards of each other.... Cracking player
Always loved his look and his attitude. He had a very smooth swing, nice and slow. I patterned myself on what I saw him doing. One of the underrated players because I think he got everything he had out of himself.

holy shit I saw this on VCR back then, i was 14 and I didnt know this corey dude at all. wow, what a truly loveable guy this is.... great story!

Class. Loved watching him play. Always thought he was an amazing putter.
One of my favorite champions. Atypical player on an atypical course. An interesting preshot routine that included a practice swing that looked nothing like his real swing.

@@16-bit-trip5 I think he meant emotions that are a bit more positive. I hate whiners. arrogance and petulance. They forget the fact that all they do is hit a golf ball well. They are very lucky to be doing something that gets them out for a nice walk and get paid six figures while doing it.

The man has been clutch his entire career.
And what makes sense is for Corey was to ditch his VAS irons after this event. He never played as well with his new equipment. Although he maintained his new equipment was great.

With the courses today, someone like Corey couldn't be prominent today. Shame really.
Yeah it would be really hard for guys like Pavin and Kite to compete today... the equipment has changed alot but still

I like Pavin, but it always hurt me that Greg Norman didn't win this tournament. Shark gave it away with 7 holes to go.
Well, Norman had his chances and made a ton of money. I wouldn't feel too bad. Besides, that Open was a life changer for Pavin. For Norman it would have been another million bucks.
I only really felt bad for him at the masters when Larry Mize chipped in. He had almost no chance to tie that hole...

Cory seems like a good guy but was never a huge fan. However i remember watching and pulling hard for Pavin mostly because i didn't want Norman to win.
