As someone who has been married for 24 years and been at the same company for 27, I love the idea of experiencing different relationships with your job/company over your career.
Sarah, I really enjoyed your TEDx talk. My favorite quote of your talk is “Do work that truly lights you up wherever you are." I also really liked the questions to ask yourself - I am thinking of them as a fulfillment question formula: contentment? + impact? + growth?
I couldn't relate to this more! "If you hate your job in Houston, you will hate it in Hanoi." If you can't work at your dream job, it also helps to separate your job from yourself. If it's not your dream job, DO NOT let it become your identity. Aligns with building a different relationship - "building a better path forward together", like you said
I've built my career around how to help other people (women in midlife) while trying to find a way of working that honors my creativity and my life. This is brilliant Sarah! Thank you for sharing your experience and expertise with all of us who are passionate about working differently.
Such a coherent way of explaining something so easy to digest and comprehend. It leaves me wanting more anecdotes. Sarah's way of describing a subject that everyone has questions about, makes me feel like I can definitely achieve my goals. Thanks so much Sarah! I truly enjoy this.
This is such an insightful discussion- thank you! Totally agree... I moved across the country for a new job before working on leaning in to what I was really seeking. I ran away rather than towards, and I appreciate how you present tools to help us be more intentional when finding a career that we really find fulfilling. Great talk!
I work from home and I really struggle with the lack of external motivation to get things done. However, I also cannot work for other people. Every job has it's ups and downs, we just have to find and focus on the good parts. Thank you for your talk, Sarah!
I really like the sentiment you express, Sarah. As a coach, some of the work I do with clients focuses on how to love their jobs before they leave them. Most of us can find something we enjoy at work. Identifying what we believe has meaning gives us the ultimate portable skill.
All countries need to adopt Progressive-socialism very soon. Conservative-capitalism has already caused a mass extinction event, and are forcing humanity into extinction too. And all just to sate their unbounded greed, their immediate monetary gratification.
At my job, working in the air cargo industry, I have a certain amount of freedom as a team lead. As long as I'm pushing people, and putting out brush fires, all is good. There really isn't a lot of room for growth where I work, and in a sense I'm okay with that. I'm not a type that does well with a lot of change (I praise anyone who embraces it!) or uncertainty. A team lead is a good spot for me. What I used to hate were jobs that pidgeon-holed me because I was really good at something.
This is amazing food for thought. I’ve found that what you say is true… no matter where you go, there you are. Fulfillment matters. It would seem it might mean having conversations and creating dialogue with our companies, too. So good!!!
The Summary of This Ted Talk : Freedom and Autonomy at work are cool but won't make you love your job if you already hate it. You'll love your job if you focus on doing something that interests you , that impacts people and that helps you grow.
This is so true!!! Thank you for this insight- and pure inspiration! Personal growth is numero uno for me! And wherever I go- there I AM!!! Yes yes yes!
if all companies stop allowing remote work, people are gonna be so mad and there will be protests. people just take remote work for granted now and never get fulfilled. just like you can never have enough money. i appreciate remote work everyday knowing i can wake up anytime and start working without having to travel to work.
If you are living in paradise and you turn up your nose then you have lost a centered perspective. She has said work 40 times in the first 3 mins. It’s turning my stomach
Mental health struggles though can happen anywhere and everywhere. On the deeper level it doesn’t matter where you are if you don’t feel whole and home within yourself …it won’t matter. She simply took that and applied it to work culture and work life. Which is big pain point for people. The sentiment works for a lot of aspects of life. I understand the taking for granted travel POV …yet everything you experience in life tires and when it tires… you have no choice but to go within. Thanks Sarah …you got a good conversation going. Goes beyond the work place !
So true! Where ever you go, there you are. Motivation comes from within; its a mindset.
Yes, indeed! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing what resonated with you, Nicole! And yes, you get to decide what that relationship with your job looks and feels like.
Great points Sarah! "Doing work that lights you up wherever you are" - YES!
Thanks, Stephanie! What kind of work lights you up?

Thank you, Amanda! You're doing very important work!
Yes, we need to deal with whether we love our work or not before we try to take it remote to change those feelings. So good!! Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, Jillian! What do you think is the key question you’d ask yourself next time before making that decision?
So Very Truth Sarah.
We all need to find what brings us Joy, Happiness, fulfillment & puts a smile on our faces.
Cheers to all from Vancouver Canada🙂
Yes, indeed! We all have our own values and preferences!
I work from home and I really struggle with the lack of external motivation to get things done. However, I also cannot work for other people. Every job has it's ups and downs, we just have to find and focus on the good parts. Thank you for your talk, Sarah!

People who work from home can have many benefits. You save gas, time and money. Or working on the beach can be less stressful for some people.
Yes, indeed!

Thanks for sharing, Lisa! Is there a specific question or reflection you ask your clients to consider before they make that change?
All companies need to be having these conversations!
All countries need to adopt Progressive-socialism very soon. Conservative-capitalism has already caused a mass extinction event, and are forcing humanity into extinction too. And all just to sate their unbounded greed, their immediate monetary gratification.
I agree, Iona! :)
Absolutely

I agree and I appreciate remote work too! :)
Thank you for the great reminder of where to focus (joy/fulfillment/impact) vs. bandaid solutions.
We all need that reminder once in a while, don't we? :)
Yaaaaaas!! You crushed this, Sarah. :)

Terrific talk and insights from an experience so many of us THINK we desire.
Thank you, Bobbie! I absolutely loved my travel experience but it was also eye-opening!
Come on, she wasn't working from home, she worked and travelled and this is a big difference.
100% real .
Thanks, Candela!
I am Happy to work from home. I do my job to the best. Do I like it do I hate it? Nope. I care about the money only.
That's totally fair!
Are we still pretending this isn't propaganda?
Its a new age way of saying “keep working tough it out, you don’t need to be satisfied in your life”
I totally agree

Thank you for your success! But around the world must to have most work for the family member,...😍🌻
Good points but the option to work from home is always better
