  • Before I start, this may seem a bit different from my other videos because...
I had completed this video once, then some nasty person loaded my desktop pc with a very nasty virus purporting to be an update for said machine!
Luckily I have a Son-in-Law that is a software Engineer who managed to save the machine & most of it's contents. However, this meant that whilst this was going on, I had to re do this video on my laptop and re do lots with the editing gear I use. Hopefully it worked OK?
    So...
This is a continuation of the offshore Lighthouses in South West Wales.
This is the Smalls Lighthouse, about 20 to 21 miles out to sea, approx 32 to 33+ Kilometres. Trinity Houses most remote, I believe.
This was filmed over a couple of trips and includes at the end the tale why there are 3 Keepers on a Lighthouse.
    Useful contacts & Info:
Boat trips may be had from the following, but as you will appreciate, a 20+ miles boat trip will be totally reliant on the weather and if they have enough passengers. So phone before you travel.

Thank you very much. I too prefer the Keepers voice overs, the life, the humour, for me it adds so much. Unfortunately, I wont be able to do that all the time as I didn't get many records of the land lights. Cheers and stay safe

Welcome aboard and thank you very much. My channel is slowly being discovered by more Lighthouse enthusiasts? I will have to go on some travels to try to get footage of other lighthouses at some point I guess. Thanks again and take care

Fascinating commentaries, lovely video footage. Tragic that keeper getting washed away, the keeper talking was indeed very lucky. I've heard of a rogue wave appearing out of nowhere, perhaps been under sea quake very long way off, the wave being last dissipation of the disturbance.

Thank you very much. Yes the sea can be very beautiful and very very cruel in equal measure. My nearly moment could quite easily have been on the Wolf Rock Lighthouse when I filmed that storm sequence that you can find on my channel here. The wave reached almost to the top of the tower where I was filming from, it quite often goes over the top. Yes, thanks again and stay safe.

Its so interesting to hear from these veterans, I remember they did a film about the incident on The Smalls with the old tower and it was on TV a couple of years ago. Those seals are adorable, I didn't know that they slept like that, its a shame the lighthouse no longer has those candy stripes though. I really miss living near the sea, the light is so different, shame about your computer - you need a virus detector on it and get yourself a portable drive so you can put all you files etc onto it, incase it happens again. The problem with the Windows system is they are so prone to viruses and trojans and stuff and terrible to update.

Thank you very much. I had all of those systems in place, but this clever nasty sod managed to bypass the anti virus, so I will have to be more careful in future. As for the seals, they were just cat napping for a while it seemed, they saved their big sleeps for when that hauled out at low tide. Thanks again and stay safe.
