5 months ago I got ejected 125 feet as a passenger. Broke all the vertebrae in my neck and my back, my femur and lots of other things. I’m so happy I can walk again!
I was affected similarly - I suddenly fainted and I had a bad landing and broke my neck at C5/6 I am especially fortunate in that I maintained bowel/bladder function so that remained the same and my hands are still moreorless functional - that said I will never walk again and I’ve accepted it - it’s not the be all to end all - obvs - I still have a happy 😃 life with my loving husband and sons and I’ve made new friends since becoming paralyzed 11 years ago now when I was 53-yrs and I still work alongside my family at our business. Best of luck Brooke with everything - your designs are incredible! I wish you could help to redesign our home here outside Toronto 😘
I wish I had physical therapists that weren’t giving up on me left and right Brooke was very lucky to have a physical therapist that was willing to try and do everything he could to help gain anything
In the end you are the person who decides how you want to live your life. Does not have anything to do with the physio. I still excercise 7 years after being paralysed.. I started with quadriplegia but now walking.
@@tom_2ndlife may I ask how you got past the paralysis to walking again , my partner was in a motorcycle accident & is paralyzed from the waist down , he was never told he wouldn't walk again but has not improved at all .
This young woman is absolutely amazing. Through her hardships, she’s gonna change the world for the BETTER for so many others. If you’ve ever doubted that “God has a plan for us all”, here ya go…a perfect example. You go girl! Fly and take others along with you. God bless you.

I just came across your story. You are truly an inspiration. My niece just became paralyzed 3 weeks ago. I could only hope she has half the fight you have!
So much strength and courage within this woman. Grateful she is still here today. I was a lifeguard for 7 years and I still cannot believe how many people I saw dive into the shallow end despite it being visibly clear how shallow the water is and that there are “no diving” signs everywhere. Wish those people could hear her story
Eirin you are an incredible young woman. There is incredible peace about you. You are blessed. You are grateful for your life and that means so much. My prayers are with you. Your mother raised a strong daughter.
A girl who lived down the street from me in high school broke her neck diving too. And Charles Krauthammer also broke his neck diving into a pool. Don't dive into water if you can't see the bottom. Jump feet first. Don't chance it!
Brooke you are an amazing courageous strong woman that I admire. I know what you mean about water it’s the most amazing feeling & don’t let anything stop you. Thank you for your story best luck love from melb Australia ❤️🙏🏼
Oh Brooke, I m so sorry. I broke my sacrum in 5 pieces, herniated two spine discs, broke both my legs and much more. I can walk though and I horseback ride daily. Ypuwill find. New passion. I greatly admire you. I hope you do well but so far it looks like you’ve got this.
It’s kind of surprising and quite sad how quickly things like this can happen. My ex’s brother broke his neck from diving into shallow water and was floating face down for quite a while. Docs were shocked the initial impact didn’t kill him and the floating face down had no effect on his health or recovery. While in the hospital he was fitted with a medical halo and they had it rigged up so there was some weight pulling on it a bit to keep it straight or stretched (something like that), well something snapped and weight came crashing down on him again but again no damage and he made a full recovery. I think he had someone really special watching over him.
You have inspired me. Im SCI too. I can walk. But trip on my left leg alot. Its only 70%. Neurogenic bowel and bladder. Struggle to walk up and down stairs. Cant reverse park my car. Have bad pain. I don't have a supportive partner. Left me because I was a dud.

Hello to y'all out there...am Bahiru .L. from Ethiopia.....Am also SCI survivor after I broke my neck in car accident...Bed ridden for straight 5 years...have been through hell & now Badly in need of Mobility equipments ....Highly appreciate if any one knows/Leads me to Institutions &/NGOS working on SCI across the the border....🙏
Oh NO just a split decision no one thinks about to check something to see it is safe & & life is suddenly a whole new world of emotions & challenging!!! Your future is beyond bright so shine like a diamond no matter what!
Dare devil types often take risks in their pursuit of adventure and diving into water at night is definitely a daredevil thing to do and extremely unwise. Me being the careful non-adventurous type wouldn’t dive into water in daylight (never mind nighttime) unless I was absolutely certain it was deep enough to dive into. However I admire her determination and wish her well in her career as an interior designer.
I use to do tree removal and in 2005 I fell about 50’. The fall didn’t hurt a bit but that sudden stop change my life pretty quickly 😂 But 4real I was told I would never walk but when the nurse told me that I said don’t take this personal but FU. I can walk without any assistance but my legs are not as strong or balanced like before but I got GBS 2 years ago that has made it a lot harder to walk because it affected my balance even more but I still refuse to use any kind of walker or :Cain . All I can say to anybody who has a SCI never give up on walking regardless of how long it’s been. Now if I could figure out a way to not have to self cath and not have back pain all the damn time.😂

@@tom_2ndlife Your support system does matter though, not only medical but in general. It's what gives you the power to fight.
Unfortunately, it also has to do with what type of insurance you have. Sad, but true!

So many injuries from diving
That's true. Why do people continue to dive when they're not sure if it's safe or not? I'll never understand that.
Yes
