I have this backpack for 5 years and this is my go to carry on bag in airports, being able to fully open up makes security check much easier. Glad to see you introduce more goodies from Varusteleka!
Varusteleka rocks. Been buying surplus and equipment from them for years at this point. Stainless czech mess kit and DPM woobie are two of my favorites I've gotten over the years.
Seems quite similar to the Condor Compact Assault pack. I have EDC'd one for about 6 years. The Condor doesn't open 180 degrees however. Nice looking pack.
I bought that pack 3 years ago and at that time they sold it for $40. Since that time I’ve been using it for work and for day hiking and it’s still going strong. I’m extremely impressed as to how incredibly well it’s held up. As a side note, the one I bought is made in China and read moving forward they’re going to make them in Finland. Either way it’s an amazing pack and once this gets worn out, I would definitely get another one. Highly recommend! Awesome review Luke!
I got one from the first patch they released. I bumped it down from my daily user when I got the small Savotta jääkäri some years ago (over 5 years). I installed some extra padding to the bag and it still sees regular use as a tactical as hell laptop carrier. Still in great condition. Still carries the weight well. Awesome value for the price.
I bought the large one for me and also one for my girlfriend, both are still holding strong after several years. Although I did manage to break a buckle, you can easily replace those. My colleague uses one as his actual assault pack, and the only downside is that as far as I understand it is not IR treated so, it can light up under nightvision.
I love backpacks, rucksacks, musette bags, laptop bags, satchels and gym bags. I have bags for the gym, for working on cars, for travel, etc. The problem with trying to camp with a rucksack, at least for me, is that it can not carry everything I need on the trip. I just can not get enough stuff into a small backpack. I need that big ole backpack like you carry in on many of YOUR filmed camp outs. Twenty liters ain't gonna cut it.
Greetings from Finland! I love the way you speak Finnish. Not right but close enough, keep on! 💪🏻 😊 Always nice to see product from our country. Personally I think Savotta is better than Särmä but Särmä is quite good if you think about a price. A funny little detail: My friend is ceo in Varusteleka.
Hello Luke, just want to say I’ve been a long time subscriber and first time commenting. I don’t miss an episode on your channel- love em all! I do have a couple of questions. 1 Why don’t you use trekking poles? 2 what light weight backpacking table and chair do you recommend? Here’s the BIG question: when are you and your brother going to hit the woods? My brother is my best friend and there’s not too many things I enjoy more than disperse camping with him. Anyways, stay well to you and your family. Sam
this is the one I was waiting for, been eyeing them for awhile as a budget version of the spec opps EDC pack and this is about 100$ cheaper, and tbh their quality over seas for these are great if not better than spec opps
Price, good. Size, good. Function, good. Durability, good. If I didn’t have multiple day packs, I’d buy it. Thanks from an old retired vet, in the hills of east Tennessee.
Hi brother Luke, thank you so much for the Green Elephant poles review got me 4 of them and they’re really awesome!! STRENGTH AND HONOR my friend be well!! 👍🏿❤️💯
If you really want military grade for 50 bucks, you can get a US surplus Molle II assault pack in UCP. If you don't like the color, dye it with some fabric dye. Works surprisingly well.
Great review. I will strongly consider either it or the larger size for my collection - which I use when riding my mountain bike in the mountains or desert. My only concern is that the D-rings seem too high on the shoulder - though it might be that you are heftier than I am. Thanks.
A backpack well worth its price. I've had the backpack in use for several years now, and no complaints. A good tacticool backpack for many different uses, but for fighting and other very serious activities I would prefer different equipment...with backpacks I prefer Savotta, Särmä TST.
Seems like a good pack at a good price. For me the lack of a trampoline style ventilated back is a deal breaker because it reaches over 100f (37.7c) here in the summer
I have the Large Assault Pack The price is great Very rugged bomb proof pack that will take a lot of abuse Good for carry on Unfortunately No back ventilation No hip belt for weight carry So I use is as sort of a car camping pack when I do not need to carry distances Within these limitations, highly recommended
Luke, I have been looking for some quallity back packs, to make good "bug out" packs for my sister and myself. Also one for my brother. Our area has been telling us for years we need to be ready with these in case of an emergency/disaster. Even our apartment community had someone come speak to us about having a "bug out" bag. But I was not impressed with the prepackaged bags they were trying to sell to us. I want to get my own quality pack, and put my own first aid kit I make up myself, and my own emergency supplies, tarp, and gie lines and things of that nature. My own flashlight and batteries, and keep things fresh and up to date. I need a pouch for just my medications, as does my sister. This pack seems to be very unique with the placement of zippered pouches that we would need for just this thing. I am definately going to check this out. There would be room for change of clothing and underwear and sox, and water, and even some quick food/snacks we could keep on hand, and always check them monthly to keep things fresh and up to date. With the other features and s biners we could attach small bags of items we need or want with us. Just perfect! Thanks again! Blessings to you and your family as always! I have an identical copy of the larger pack Luke refers to. I bought it online a few years ago and use it to hold picnic items in my 4WD. It is made in China. Nothing special. Something to look at would be the attachment of the shoulder straps to the top of the pack. You will most likely find that if the stitching pulls out due to the carriage of heavier loads then the strap will come off as it continues no further than that into the top of the pack body. Decent packs would have the webbing harness strap go deeper and have extra stitching. My impression is that this Finnish company has simply 'rebranded' stock standard Chinese assault style packs, which is a little misleading if they are claiming to have made them locally. There are several army style equipment suppliers around who have the exact same pack in a variety of camo schemes.
I have had some of their stuff mail order (to the UK) its good, I would love to go to their shop in Helsinki but its the back of beyond their website is superb, not cheap but decent value even when you factor in postage
I had the bigger version i used it evryday for about 2 years. Really good and solid pack but it ended up tearing in some places. I have also seen many people in finland with same problem. Ots good value for the price but if you have the money the savotta jääkäri m or s is a much better alternative.
VERY INTERESTING!!! I've been looking for a new "assault laptop" backpack (pun intended) and seems like they are all so expensive or cheap crap. Seems like this version is a little small for what I need, but the $60 bigger brother looks like JUST THE TICKET. Thanks!
while i dont have that brand, i use a mil-tec that is a 36 litter pack for holding my basic go too stuff, like when heading to work and such. havent had a issue with it at all thankfully and it seems to hold well since i have basically 19lbs of stuff into it constantly
From the description of the Small Assault Pack: "The main compartment holds 24 cans of beer (we tested with the European 330 ml but should work with the slightly taller US 12 oz) to give you a real-world example. We will not admit to having considered this already when designing the Assault Pack.". :D
Looks really good for $50. Now, an observed con, the zippers have no form of coverage. The would leak like crazy when exposed to wet weather. Is there a cover available? Much needed. Not bad to carry a stove, puffy, ground seat, maybe some camera gear, don't let it rain. All good from east KY USA Next time
civilian tactical might not work if i use it here.. most of outdoors here are guerilla zones and going tactical will attract unwanted attention from local paramilitary insurgents..
Overpriced with dreadful colors. No coyote or camo? Lots of packs of same quality at half the price. Better features and better colors on Amazon. M-tac, MIL-SPEC, etc.

Do you carry a lap top in it. If so, do you have to carry a further protective case?
@@thetruereview6780 I did carry a laptop but without a sleeve in the pocket for hydration bag, I tend to not use a sleeve anyway
Varusteleka rocks. Been buying surplus and equipment from them for years at this point. Stainless czech mess kit and DPM woobie are two of my favorites I've gotten over the years.
Shipping to USA is a bit steep, but not their fault. A great store indeed. And if you are ever in the area, it is worth a visit.
The Sarma TST layering system is the best. Love all their merino.

Cool to finally see a backpack I own on this channel! lol
I have a his and its smaller cousin, they're both great.
Ian from the UA-cam channel Forgotten weapons is often collaborating with Varusteleka, and it sounds like he got the name correct
Looks like a good basis for a get-home-bag.

Also :It has two Quick release straps on the bottom , so It can carry a sleeping bag or other modules under It .
Just brought the larger version, in black. Does everything I need it to do at a great price. I use as a Rucking pack loaded to 35lbs.

this is the only review of the SMALL assault pack on youtube ! i bought the pack a month ago. it is small. has 2 year warranty
as a diaper bag it can take 3-5 diapers, a bag of wipes, a changing pad, a change of baby clothes, a few snacks and a dad's edc..
Thank you for the vid, great info! S&H to you, good sir.

Finnish, not just European.
(Edited from ”Finnish, not European” to make it more clear what I meant)
Last time I checked, Finland was still a European country.

I agree brother! For a assault pack 50$ is crazy!! But awsome 👌
Are there straps underneath the pack?
yes 2 straps on the under side for a small roll
No need to worry about soldiers or Marines wearing that on deployments or in the field.
I heard that Särmä was also made by Savotta for Varusteleka. Can anyone confirm?
The sarma TST line of packs are made by Savotta, not their small and large assault packs

So you've already reviewed Helikon-Tex and now Sarma. Now do Wisport. Then you'll have done the trifecta of eastern European excellence.
