- As bushfires and extreme weather events become more frequent, the need for resilient homes has never been greater. This ecokit home in Marysville, Victoria - a town devastated by the 2009 Black Saturday fires - was designed and built with fire safety, energy efficiency, and sustainability in mind.
Built to BAL 40 standards, featuring fire-resistant materials and airtight construction, this home is a testament to how smart design can help mitigate risks and create safer, more sustainable communities.
Discover how resilience in homebuilding can make a difference.
I was on-site every day during the assembly of this home, and seeing the structure take shape so quickly was absolutely incredible. The speed and precision of the build really showed the power of well-planned, resilient design.
Marysville is such a beautiful place, and after everything this community has been through, I truly hope they never have to face such a devastating event again. But if the worst were to happen, homes like this give people a much better chance of rebuilding, recovering, and staying safe.
Let’s keep pushing for smarter, more resilient homes-because the way we build today will shape how we live tomorrow. What are your thoughts on fire-safe home design?
