- Do you make your own vanilla extract?! If not, it’s time. Only two ingredients, but more so, it’s just fun to make your own. The longest part is letting it steep, but you'll never regret it!

Ingredients:
3 cups vodka
3 oz vanilla beans
Instructions:
Place the beans in a tall glass airtight container. Pour the vodka over the beans, making sure they are completely covered.
Place in a cool, dark place, agitating once per week to incorporate the vanilla essence into the vodka. For optimal flavor, it's best if the extract sits for one year before use.

From the UK - the beans/seeds are the little specks - the long black thins are called vanilla PODS!!!
I have done this for years❣❣❣ Once you have made your own you will never buy store bought again. Love it! It's great to add a vanilla pod to a jar of sugar to enjoy luscious vanilla sugar.😋😋😋
Can u try vanila beans from Indonesia
I use a pickle fork to pull out an occasional vanilla pod. Works a treat. And don't forget you can reuse the pods.
I planted a lot of it, my garden smells so good it makes guests feel at home in my house
Homemade vanilla is the BEST! Double fold in a good bourbon or rum is sooooo tasty 😋
I also make vanilla paste out of my soaked beans after i decant all the the extract. Also vanilla caviar blended with sugar.
Simply the Best. Love your videos.. keep them rolling
What is the shelf life after it's ready to use? Maybe for someone who doesn't bake as much.
I am going to make homemade vanilla extract, because of your video ! I did some research to find out, what kind of vanilla beans I will be using. I decided to use FITNCLEAN MADAGASCAR BOURBON BEANS , GRADE A ! I PRAY THAT IT COMES OUT GOOD .
I looked at that seller and I chose not to go with him. How did it turn out?
My Nan aways made vanilla essence. Now I’ll carry on the tradition. Love the video 💓
I use bourbon and Madagascar vanilla beans = 100% delicious always!!!!
U can try vanilla beans from Indonesia too
I now say "well hello" along with you every video. :)
Love that! 😀
wow ... I didn't realize how easy this process was ... will definitely be giving it a try. And how perfect for gift giving !!! thanks ever so much for sharing ...
I love anything with vanilla. I didn't know how easy it would be to make vanilla extract at home. I'm definitely going to try this. Thank you for this video.
Im from Indonesia I planted a lot of it, my garden smells so good it makes guests feel at home in my house
I have been making vanilla for a few years now and it is always amazing. It is a fantastic hostess or housewarming gift. Love your site!
Your video was very helpful! I am definitely going to try and make some homemade vanilla this winter.
I make homemade vanilla extract to use in my homemade eggnog and ice cream. To make my extract, I put 10 split Madagascar vanilla beans, 1 tsp vanilla paste, one cinnamon stick, and 1/2 teaspoon of saffron in a 1-cup glass jar. I then filled the glass jar with Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey.
Ive been making my own vanilla extract for years! I just got some from Native Vanilla and am making extract gifts for xmas presents.
This was super helpful will be making some this weekend
Oh I’m trying this!
So interesting! Great Video 😊
Oooooo.... I love it. Thank you WyseGuide
Very informative and well done! Thanks!
Most excellent!
Thank you so much! I just ordered some beautiful beans to make extract and you made this super simple to understand!
So glad you enjoyed! You will love homemade vanilla!
Thank you very much for your video. I prepared an extract, insisted for 2 months. The smell is great, it smells all over the house. But after I poured the extract into small bottles, after a month, it noticeably lost its taste and aroma. Any advice on how to pour the extract without losing it in the smell? And how do you properly pour the extract?
@Mr. Wyse happy new year, quick question I'm just starting my diy vanilla extract journey. My question when the year is up do you reuse the beans for second batch? If so how, do you add new beans to it? ty for any advice.
Thank you for your very interesting videos. Is it possible to make it kosher ?
Would you do one on a vanilla paste?
Those beans look wonderful 😋
Where did you get the carafe with the locking lid😮?? please!!
This is a very useful tip. I will give this a try. I enjoy your videos. Thanks
Where did you get container? Great idea.
What is that bottle called. Its looks like a Wine cruet but I never see them with vacuum sealed lids. I think its perfect to make vanilla so you can take out the beans without too much effort. I would really appreciate the info. My daughter is a baker and I want to make her some really good vanilla for this coming Christmas. Great learning video.. 😁
Looks like a Weck jar
I did make my own vanilla, it was a year this month, and it is sooo good, but my question is, as I use it do I keep the pods in it, and do I need to add more pods to this? Honestly don't know?
Your pods can be pulled & scraped to use the caviar, put back in for a 2nd batch, or dehydrated & ground in sugar! Look at you tube vudeos fir lots of ideas!
Keep the pods, just add more vodka to original bottle once you pour the extract to another container.
Thank you 🙏
My sister makes both Voda and burbon vanilla. Wonderful
You're right, people don't know what to do with them. I bought some vanilla beans from Costco thinking I would make either vanilla extract or ice cream with them, if not both, and well, now it's 11 years later and they are still in the little glass bottle I bought them in, unopened. Sadly, I did use an entire big 16 oz. bottle of vanilla extract I bought a while ago, before the prices got out of control. $26 for vanilla extract is crazy to me. ; (
How many vanilla beans do you use for a 12oz bottle
Can you help with my question? My one year mark is coming up in February…. When I pour it into smaller bottles to use it what do I do with the beans?
Where are good places to buy vanilla beans?
What do you do with the beans when ready to use?
I open it for having a more strong flavour in less time
Can we use other liquids rather than alcohol?
Where did you get your vanilla beans?
Technically it’s a tincture….but I’ve always had amazing results making my own.
I always wondered how to do this !!! Is there somewhere you would recommend getting the vanilla from ?
I don't know where you live, but I've bought mines from Sprouts, Whole Foods MKT, or Central MKT. I hope this helps.
Amazon I have found to be the best place for quality and price!!!!!
After the 6 mos to a year of fermenting how long is shelf life?
Forever
Where do you get those bottles and where do you get the vanilla beans??????
Patty West - I got what look to be the exact same bottles from Amazon. That's also where I bought vanilla beans. I got Madagascar Grade A, but I hear the less expensive Tahitian Grade B is also good.
For beginners use Madagascar beans grade B. You don't need to spend the extra money on grade A.
I love making vanilla!
Where did you get that bottle with wide mouth? I just got some beans and they are fat with oils. I don’t plan on cutting these and will use them after they extract. I tried Amazon but don’t know what that kind of bottle is called.
Just look for wide-mouth glass jars, Mason or canning jars. You can find them on Amazon, but Walmart sells them as well, probably Target too, among other retailers.
The relatively wide-mouth "bottle" he is using is called a carafe, and the others are swing-top bottles, they seal tightly using a spring mechanism. I personally would NOT use a carafe to make the vanilla extract, but when you are done you can use one to store and dispense(pour) the extract for your desired purpose.
Weck jar
Are there any videos here you have done using the vanilla you’ve made?
If you open the jars early then seal them again does that ruin it???
The vanilla flavor imparted into the alcohol would leave your bottle every time you would use it if that were the case. No?
Making mine today using Grain alcohol 75.5 and 152 Proof
152 proof, my gosh what are you using & how did it turn out? I thought that was too strong & you have to add distilled water or it will ruin the bean.
You fried your vanilla beans with that high proof alcohol.
Where do I get the vanilla beans?
do you leave the vanilla pods in the bottle when you start to use it ?
Yes
I can see putting all kinds of things in that like cherries and other things.
It can be with glycerine better than alcohol and more healthier
Where do you get the vanilla beans and what kind of vodka name brand do you use
Following
👍good
Do you list or share a good place to get vanilla beans? I've had poor luck with the places I have used. Thanks Kaleb~ !
Amazon
Vanilla Kings is one of the best I've heard! They have Co-op sales once a month on 1 type of bean & if you buy often it's cheaper.
I’ll start saving up now😂 Here Vanilla Beans are $12 for TWO & not the Best Quality. Can just IMAGINE the FLAVOR this elixir imparts & I REALLY want to try this...I’ll go searching (maybe on line) for GOOD Quality reasonably-priced beans & special containers. For Home Bakers...oh my GOSH they’d LOVE this. Couldn’t receive a better Gift! 🥰🙏
Costco carried them for a while. Madagascar, 5 good sized beans in a glass tube for $15.99. I TOTALLY stocked up! 👍🙂
Look on Amazon.
for year? i give up let me just go buy a ready one
Like it better with Bourbon.
That vanilla is a whole months rent.
Yeah it’s pretty sad ! It never used to be that way . I bought a whole pound of vanilla beans about 10 years ago and I believe they were only $50 now it cost $50 I believe for a quarter of a pound
@@burbie1342 Yeah, it's very sad.
There's vanilla buying groups
@@desertfarmcompany7408 Really?
You must have cheap rent. I get a pound of vanilla beans for around $100
Is it safe for kids
Baker here! Vanilla extract is typically used in baked goods such as cookies and brownies, so its definitely safe for you and your children! Just, don't drink it alone. It's not harmful, but I doubt it'll taste pleasant.
+Kenny Martin Are you asking if the vanilla extract is safe for kids? Vanilla extract is made with at least 70 proof (35% abv) alcohol, that's federal law, but it may also be diluted after it is made, I think, so that is a decision for you to make, what you're comfortable with.
You can make a non-alcoholic vanilla extract with vegetable glycerin(and water) instead of grain alcohol.
I keep hearing vodka has no flavor. Vodka has a flavor (take a straight swig and you'll see). Even water has a flavor. Whatever liquor you use it's going to impart some flavor. I like vodka based vanilla but spiced rum is also very good (I "slightly" prefer it) because one of the flavors in it is vanilla already.
🙂🙂🙂🙂
The seeds do NOT have flavor, nor do they have vanillin in them.
And if you're not splitting and chopping your beans, you're missing out on A LOT of flavor that's locked inside the beans which has a hard time extracting through that tough outer skin. Besides that, the more surface area you provide, the more efficiently and quickly the extraction will happen.
Additionally, it's been scientifically proven that vanilla is done extracting at 4-6 months. You do NOT have to wait a year. The 12+ month concept is a misconception.

Why didn't you show us how to scrape the beans of the caviar .... because it requires labor to scrape this gooey seeds and causes a mess. How could you not show it ?
Swoopy camera "work" adds exactly nothing to any video.
Thanks so much for your input, nothing will be changing with the way we film ☺️
Where did you get your vanilla beans?
