Easy Jazz Ensemble - Grade 2
This slow cooking shuffle tune became a trademark for Booker T. & The MG's. Roger has done a nice job of adapting it for young players while keeping the feel of the original. Includes solos for alto or tenor and trumpet, but anyone could solo on this with the easy chord changes.

In the 1960's there was a great big band arrangement of this by Henry Mancini, I believe. I wonder how one could ever find it. It had the saxes play the organ part at the beginning- it was a blast
Do you have any more information on it? I found a record of Mancini (on youtube even), but that doesn't seem like the one that you are talking about
maybe you mean the arrangement by sammy nestico. That fits your description.

Ehhh, it’s ok but I feel he could have done better. A bit too square
Yea I agree, could do with a bit more speed too

it sounds great when your director gives it some flavor
