Written in 1952 when Julia Perry was living and studying in Italy, A Short Piece for Small Orchestra showcases her inventive approach to exploring compact musical themes across a range of expressive moods and engaging styles.
The Minnesota Orchestra performed this work on November 3, 2023 with conductor Kensho Watanabe as part of The Listening Project, an ongoing initiative to spotlight the music of historically underrepresented composers and to collaborate with a broader group of composers living today.
