I had no idea about that compare feature on warcraftlogs and was going through logs manually, thank you very much for showing that feature! I feel like this is going to make looking for differences much easier!
brother, i didnt know the fact about comparing logs. Thanks!! this already helped me, seeing where i have to pay more atention in order to do more dmg. thanks!!
One thing that can make comparing log easier is looking at the buff or debuff tab, in the demon hunter example it would be obvious if the the high parser had 98% uptime whereas the low parser only had 40%. Also clicking on individual buffs to see how high they are stacking may be useful for some classes. Paring this information with wowanalyser you are normally able to identify people's problem areas.
finally , someone did what I try to convey to everyone who go to M+ with me I hope this video help a big part of people! Also dont forget about addons , like MDT , WA etc, thats help them no to die like every pull
Other useful sites not mentioned in vid: lorrgs.io/ - Puts out top parse openers in a different format to see them much easier bloodmallet.com/ - Quick overlook at best trinkets, racials, etc for each class. Good for a quick overview of what to be using, but simming is still better wowanalyzer.com/ - Analyzes what you could have done better at a glance, but it is not very well supported on some class specs. Take its info with a grain of salt, doesn't account for mechanics
The main thing preventing me from top performance is I'm unclear about my desire to do it. It takes time and energy to focus to improve -- that's perfectly good and fun when you're passionate about it. Lately I feel like my only reason to go for it is to prove something to myself by comparing myself to others. I'm not judging that kind of motivation but it's just not pulling me the way it used to. Maybe that's a good thing but I kind of wish I still cared and got satisfaction from it.
There's nothing wrong with just playing for fun and not caring as much about performance - if you aren't pushing mythic raiding / high keys, DPS numbers matter a lot less. I think it's natural to compare yourself to others for brownie points, being top DPS in your raid group is always satisfying
@@pumptastic The thing is, for me right now, caring about performance is the closest I've been to having fun in the game. The social aspect, too, but I can do that in other ways. I've been playing the game since 2005, so even new content has felt played out to me. Improving my performance is the only thing that feels like new territory, and yet it's not that new. It's the same content over and over with bigger numbers and I wonder if it's all just to pat myself on the back and look cool to others. Don't mean to be a negative nancy. I really rather have fun than not, in any kind of way.
@@paulshelkov7956 improving yourself as a human being, no matter the skill or field, is always a step forward in some direction. your view is fundamentally flawed like that.
@@excaligaming2435 I do agree with what you're saying. I'm just finding it's requiring more and more effort for less and less satisfaction to keep improving in that direction (for me, at this time). And I wonder if I'm clinging to that kind of improvement for superficial reasons, when I'd have a better time doing something else. I have other things I'm doing my best to do and enjoy, but having some difficulty. So I keep going back to WoW to see if I can have some fun with the right mindset, and then I hit a brick wall of boredom. So then I make posts like this. I'd really like to find out I can actually get a bunch of real enjoyment out of striving to be better at the game -- then I'd have one more thing to enjoy. It just has to be genuine though.
Thanks for your work here. Very helpful. How does this process change for tanks? Any resource or video you might have us tanks check out? Thanks again.
The process is still the same when looking for changes for tank damage - you can still use log compare and see what top guys are doing differently. I don't have any resources for tanks unfortunately, just DPS :)
I desperately need help with my Warlock, Helstar - Emerald Dream (US) ive have all the gear and i know what buttons to press but im still simming 30k higher than the dmg im doing :/
Shared with my teams Discord, this was helpful. Any suggestions for a melee player who struggles to maintain uptime during mechanics? Council fight for me especially is a complete wash, have never passed above gray there.
If your guild is melee heavy, council can be very hard to parse on because you're just trying to do mechanics. For Council specifically, you also need a pretty fast killtime since your burst in lust will be higher than any other point in the fight, so all the top parses have fast kill times. Looking at timers for when aids is going out might help the most for that fight as melee
In AV maybe you do but I could not see in clip, first pull and pull after stairs and in circlearea the stonemobs "crystal fury" cast a buff you can spellsteal 35%dmg for 10sec i know its a gcd but must sure be worth it?
I didn't do it in the m+ vid, but it is worth the GCD to spell steal it. On tyrannical weeks it's debatable, depends if mobs live long enough for ignite to get value, but ya I just missed it in the first clips
I plan on making a Patreon to include log session / coaching stuff this weekend - Thanks a lot for the support! I'll talk about the patreon in an upcoming video
Hey bro I was just wondering what stats to go for as arcane mage for crafted gear. All the guides say it doesn’t really Matter but would love your opinion
Crit / Mastery would be what I suggest on arcane, but you do still need some haste for your burst window to feel comfortable. I would focus on crit and mastery though, all of the higher end arcane mages seem to go crit/mas
You can copy their character name and look them up in WoW armory, it does just say "Random Stat" in WoWlogs unfortunately. Murlok.io is a better alternative for looking at mythic+, it shows the top M+ players crafted gear and what stats they are putting on their items
Gear compare / droptimizer give the best ideas of stat weights and what you should aim for - for general use, www.raidbots.com/simbot/stats is a rough idea of what your stats should be, but gear compare will be more accurate. Some classes stat weights vary depending on if you're in AOE / Single target, so in gear compare make sure to select the fight you want whether it's cleave, patchwork, dungeon slice, etc. Gear compare will be your best option.
this was a great video, didnt know you could just compare your own logs with other similar players on wcl! i think you could've mentioned Lorrgs, it shows you the top 50ish players for each spec in every boss fight and you can see their major cd usages throughout the fight. also - was wondering if the m+ pushing series was going to continue? was really interesting and learnt a lot, that video inspired me to not be afraid and push from 2400 to about 2600 in these couple of days. thanks!
Yep! I have footage compiling for the next episode of m+ pushing, but it's 4+ days out - I like to compile footage from around a week. Lorrgs was one I forgot, going to pin that one, that one is useful for seeing CD usage in a different format, thanks for that I did just time a 24 court last night, so there's a little teaser. Getting to some very exciting keys :D
I think this video had some great advice. However you spent a long time saying logs are great but showed 0 ways to actually use logs to analyze just compare to a top spec with a similar kill time. You don't even need to compare to someone who is high parsing, you just need to know what you are trying to achieve and how to display that information in logs. You said he had less up time on momentum but never showed how to check that, which would be super useful.
If I showed how to actually use logs to analyze for every single class the video would have been an hour long - it is going to change for every single class. This vid was meant to be a blueprint, not to show you exactly what to change in your rotation. And to figure out the best, you need to analyze the best. NBA players don't analyze G league players, lol. Looking at buff uptime you just select "buffs" in logs & it gives percentages
@@pumptastic My point was you gave an example but never showed how to check that specific example which I thought would have been helpful. I am not saying comparing is not a good way, however its not the only way. I want to make it clear I thought the video was very good, I was just trying to say I felt like it missed on one point!
