    Great review! How do you find this compares to the BDG Seed you have a video of from a couple years ago? Any major differences?

    I got my Road Runner on June 3. It is soooo easy to pull up, it wants to fly. My 15yo daughter is kiting it now, and loving it. Still no Manual though. The last I heard from Ozone which was last week, is they will publish it "soon".

    Just ordered one to replace my 14m Fazer 3 for ground handling :) I really like the wider wind range of the Roadrunner and how it mimics standard glider characteristics better than a speed wing, I just wish it had trimmers as an added feature. Magnet brake toggles are a huge plus though

    Hi. I just curious what is benefit from just ground handling wing? Maybe is it had better have a speedwing and be close to a max weight range of it ? Costs almost the same but with speedwing you can do more.

    • @christianmiles
      @christianmiles 4 роки тому +1

      The ground handling wings are normally made stronger and smaller than a lot of regular or even mini wings. The idea is that you thrash around your ground handling wing while keeping your flying wing safe. Nothing wrong with using a regular wing :) !, its just in doing so you'll reduce its lifespan

    • @AndreBandarra1
      @AndreBandarra1  4 роки тому +1

      True. If you're into speedflying that could be a good way to go. However I find that a wing like the rapidos does handle quite different from a normal freeflight wing and different to a groundhandling wind. But yes you can even get a second hand speed wing or mini wing and get the same benefits. The more you groundhandle it though the less airworthy it will be just due to wear and tear.

      Yeah, i have the bad habit of talking over Gemma and getting sidetracked. Pretty similar in every way to be honest. Brake travel is a little longer but that's just an Ozone thing. It also feels like the wing sits taller (longer lines) and for me that makes it easier to do tricks

    Probably nearly identical to BGD Seed in looks and handling? That’s what I got last fall since I knew the Groundhog was outdated just from looking at it. I’m waiting until you start your own paragliding school in Portugal and I’ll be there!

    Great video, sold me on buying one cause I was sitting here inside watching YT paragliding while it's blowing 25 mph winds outside. I figured it will be worth buying if I can get dozens more ground handling days in before going to P2 training. How do you know if the controls need shortening or not? TIA.

    talking about strong wind, how much can the roadrunner bare? can u go exercise with even more than 30-40 km/h wind?
    and is it an expensive wing?
    good video as always

    • @AndreBandarra1
      @AndreBandarra1  4 роки тому +2

      The roadrunner is 14m2 and I'm 90kg, and I'd say more than 35km/h it gets a bit hairy. For sure it's possible to do 40km/h or a bit more but I'd pick a really big safe place to do it. If you are heavier than 90kg you can take more wind than this , if you're lighter you can take less.

    Hey! Loving your videos. Very new to the sport myself. What exactly makes a ground handle wing separate from a flying wing?

    • @FlyingKarlis
      @FlyingKarlis 4 роки тому +1

      They are usually smaller and made to practice ground handling, it is also easier to play with a small wing, than it is with a normal size one. Also you can take it out in stronger conditions, than normal wing. Plus these wings are usually more dynamic, you'll need to react quicker, which helps with your progression as when you'll go back to normal size it will feel like slow motion. These are just a few benefits of having a small wing to play with. Ohh, they are also way cheaper as they don't go through the certification process and are not made to fly with.

    • @AndreBandarra1
      @AndreBandarra1  4 роки тому +2

    • @FlyingKarlis
      @FlyingKarlis 4 роки тому

      @@gwenevere501 Just as a heads up, schools also call normal wings that are older as ground-handling wings. Basically they use them till they dead, you can't fly them anymore, but can practice on them while learning. Then again, you don't need a small wing to learn, it is just a nice tool to have and surely helps, but it is not essential :) Good luck in your flying progression!

    I’m thinking of getting one of these. What harness would you recommend for ground handling?

    • @AndreBandarra1
      @AndreBandarra1  4 роки тому +1

      At the moment, none. I haven't found a simple affordable and comfortable harness that I like for groundhandling. So they're all a bit of compromise. If you need something right now go for an old harness or a second hand hike and fly harness and do some modifications to the straps if needed. If you're not in a hurry I've heard that ozone might be bringing a harness out that fits the bill but I'll have to try it to believe it.

      I acquired an inexpensive used Gin Bobcat speed flying seatless harness with removable one piece L-shaped foam padding (butt and back). I use it with a 14m BGD Seed ground handling wing and find it comfortable. It’s one size fits all and I’m 188 cm tall with 31” waist (tall and slender with long legs).

      Thanks for the replies! I got an old woody Valley harness for next to nothing after putting an ad up on Facebook. Got the wing yesterday and had a two hour session. Great fun, and pleased that it works in light conditions as strong laminar wind is rare inland where I live

    What is the point of this wing? I mean who pays more than 1200 euros on a unflyable "cheap" wing? I would play with it of course but the money I would spend rather on a maybe 2 years old schooling wing or other equipment

    • @GVTSounds
      @GVTSounds 4 роки тому +1

      Personally i agree with you. Lots of old used wings of all sizes can be picked up for $200 or less and are perfectly fine for just ground handling. Each to their own though.

    • @Spyder76137
      @Spyder76137 4 роки тому +3

      To each his own for sure, but the fact that it’s a 14m allows you to kite it on days that are too windy to fly or kite a standard size wing, and unlike speed wings, it can still be easily kited in nil/low wind conditions. I think that’s a big plus.

    • @AndreBandarra1
      @AndreBandarra1  4 роки тому +5

      The point of this wing is to improve your groundhandling and glider control. To have a dedicated small wing to do it you end up having less excuses for not groundhandling. You can get a school glider but it will be big and you will trash it, meaning that if it was a certified wing to fly, after a good season of groundhandling you wouldn't want to fly it anyway. I know because I have a wing like this that I bought for groundhandling for 50£ and never get it out. If you're groundhandling a full size wing you are better off doing it on your main flying wing. If you would rather get a speed wing instead because they are small, then fair enough, but still would you want to fly it after groundhandling it a lot? If something goes wrong on a speedwing in flight, it goes wrong fast, so I would like to keep equipment like that in top shape. So, to me the though process would be: do I want to improve my groundhandling? if yes: do I think a small dedicated wing would make me do it more? if yes: what can I afford? if price is an issue you can get a second or third hand speedwing, miniwing or groundhandling wing. They will all handle a little different, but the key is to get a 12-14m wing that you can just use for groundhandling and that you can put a good 50-100 hours on it in a season because it will be really easy to have on hand and use. This is obviously my opinion, so take it with a pinch of salt.

      @@AndreBandarra1 thank you Andre, I didn't expect this extended answer. 😊 I need to point out that maybe not everyone is so lucky like we in our pg school where we can pick up a bunch of different (20+) gh wings from the school to use and learn. From small to big, from A to D class, from stoneold to modern wings everything. That might be a point more that I wouldn't like to buy one of these, missing a bit the diversity experienced in the last months, have been doomed to gh for 3 months due to winter and Corona lockdown.

    Looks like a bit of a slog...should be great for beginners but as an experienced pilot I’d prefer something a bit more “active” to ground handle
