A calatrava is not that expensive (Especially considering the prices Rolex watches are going for now), you can save for one.. but if you want something more complicated, then I'll agree with you
Yeah I would have a hard time justifying the price for a watch. I guess that’s why they call these watches luxury watches or aspirational watches. I feel like if I ever got one I would be too afraid to get it scratched or wear it sparingly.
A brand for the once in the know! For the one who don't need to prove anything... I'm lucky to have owned most luxury brands over my twenty years of collecting, including the modern independents, some are better in this, some are better in that, but the restrained elegance, the soul, charm, the wear comfort and the feel on the wrist, with all the horological mastery in one package can't be seen better than in a Patek Philippe watch!
@@chrismuz No, Lange is a good looking movement and great finis, in a hockey puck case, with high unreliability(owned five of them), not even close to Patek accuracy...
I love Patek Philippe. I have four in my collection and just added the new 5236 In-Line Perpetual Calendar. It's amazing. It's a first for a wristwatch in the industry. They also made the first In-Line Perpetual Calendar with the pocket watch in the '70s but this is the first in wristwatch form. You can look at a watch but you can't fully appreciate it unless you have an understanding of the history and context.

Timex: One simple truth,... in the world of high-end watchcraft, Timex is ranked as the single worst watch making company in the whole entire history of both the known and unknown multiverse!
Pope Pius XV? There wasn't one - the highest Pius (so to speak) was Pius XII, the Pope during the war. The longest reigning Pope was Pius IX -and, yes, he did have a PP. Patek was a keen member of the Zmartwycwstancy (the Congregation of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ). The ironic thing about the Calatrava Cross that is PP's log is that it has Islamic origins. The name comes from the Arabic Q'alat Rabah (fortress of Rabah), the name of a stronghold captured from the Moors in Spain
0:21 How come this Patek-Philippe timepiece got released to the market as it's obviously imperfect - there's a dot/stain clearly visible on black 'zero' digit. That would make me uneasy even with Casio watch, let alone high-end product...
If you “gift” your product to a high profile individual I wouldn’t say that person’s patronage carries the same (or actually any) kudos as a similar profile individual who’s actually chosen, sourced and paid for their PP…. I mean let’s be honest, I can’t imagine anyone actually turning it down! If “Liz” or “Vicky” (hilarious by the way) had rocked up at an AD with a bag of coins, actually with their own face on by the way, then I’d of been far more impressed 😉
Good thing history turned out that way. Patek & Czapek would have sounded like a comical duo from silent movie times. A well sounding brand name cant be overestimated.
@@TheMacanko You're misunderstand. An "a" and "o" in English is pronounced differently than in Polish. In the example of Czapek the "a" sounds like an "o" in English so if you want to show an English speaker how to pronounce it properly in Polish you spell it to them like I did "chop-ek". "Chop" as in Karate chop.
@@EmJay2022 I must disagree. I speak both - polish and english and chop-ek doesn't reflect how it should sound. But let's leave the complexities of pronounciation and enjoy the video.
@@TheMacanko So do I. "Chap-ek" like you propose is pronounced in English like chapstick (for dry lips). This is wrong. This is not how the "a" in Czapek is pronounced if you want the correct pronunciation in English. Chop as in chopping wood is how the "a" is in Czapek. I know I'm right and you are wrong. Your explanation is going to confuse people. You are assuming a's and o's are pronounced the same in english and polish
And yet no mention of the fact the brand was almost sold to jlc who stupidly turned away the offer to buy the brand - sometimes the stories in these watch videos are abit like listening to your dad who tried to tell you something but doesn’t quite deliver the entire story but yet we still sit there listening until he’s finished before thinking to one’s self yea nice story dad but I already knew what you just told me and you missed afew key parts out 👍
Seriously you put some knowledge and effort but showed absolute ignorance on how to pronounce "Czapek". It's so far from being correct that I hardly recognize any Polish sound in it and at the same time you have no problem with pronouncing JLC or any other well known foreign watch brand. As if lookin in google for phonetical expresssion was any problem. You know how it looks? Like Hip-Hop musican knowing nothing about watches but having 10 Rolexes teaching others what quality watch is. Not only Czapek was important historical person and formed Patek & Czapek brand but also "Czapek" brand was "reactivated" and their models are wonderful pieces of watch artisy therefore it really deserves to be pronounced correctly just like Jaeger Le-Coultre. You owe this little extra effort to community and watchmaking history.
@@sameagle988 never like to miss an opportunity to hear Andrew's bias against Patek 👌 this (surprisingly) was one of his more factual videos free of opinion. But a stupid stupid title for anyone who is a student of horological history.
Patek Philippe is one the most overrated brands in the industry. Most of their watches are simply average. Yes, they make nice things from the horological point of view but complicated models are often unwearable and simply ugly, less complicated models are often totally bland and has weird proportions. Finish of their watches is much below you would expect for that price. Look at the case of Nautilus: they had to stop the production because people didn't care about other boring and unusable Patek watches.
