I think this might be a little faster than st4nzzz 12:50 run, but either way, I plan to go lower. Stage 7 was bad, and the last boss kill was a bit slow. More to come.

the moment with the mouths is probably the only dishonest place in the game. I've tried many different ways (yours too). One out of ten times I am always randomly killed by a mouth that appears right in me. I was a little disappointed in the game when I discovered this.

Hi, I'm able to get the ceiling to drop, but I don't understand the pausing to prevent dying. I can't find a walkthrough or a video that explains it. I've always loved this game, and I want to be one of the best at it. I'll keep digging for TAS videos that might explain it better, but anything you could share would be greatly appreciated. GG!
Hey there! So the pausing trick is complicated. The purpose of it is to keep the F gun for the boss fight, and make that kill way faster. In terms of what the pausing is doing to prevent the deaths, is based on four moments when the screen will kill your character. I’ve heard that these four moments are frame perfect ( one 60th of a second) and require your pauses to take place on those exact four frames. My approach is to do something around 8 pauses in a rhythm of sorts so that they meet up at times with the four moments I need to find for survival. So that’s 8 well timed pausing and unpausing moments (roughly). Hope this makes a little more sense of what’s happening there. There is also a discord channel for contra speedrunning. The whole series is in there. I can link that for you if you’d like it. Lots of folks to talk strats with there

We need new competitions aside from speedruning. Marathons, for instance. How many loops of Castlevania can you do in one life. Tie broken by distance of last run.

It’s the normal release. You can hold B for a brief moment and charge up the F gun in this game. The fire will look bigger than normal and have 8 smaller fireballs shoot out instead of the typical 4 after it hits an enemy.
The fire weapon can be charged up in this game. If you hold b down for a little bit and release it, it’ll be bigger in size, shoot off more fireballs when it hits something, and do much more damage.
It’s a bit complicated. Basically there are 4 moments where the screen can crush and kill you. All of them happen at a 1/60th of a second moment. So basically you just try to rhythmically pause and unpause hoping to have pause at those 4 specific moments. I usually do somewhere between 6-7 pauses and hope for the best.
It's amazing how much the fire weapon has improved from the first being useless to the second being the best
