@@NOWABO hey, I’m sorry that I always take so long to reply to you man. I usually have school or work to do. But thanks for always replying! I really do appreciate it nowah.
Who did the female voice?? They sound so good! And you all did awesome on this song, nowah, johann, everybody! This is going into my playlist right now lol, thank you guys!
This is awesome! 😃 One of my favorites of yours, certainly. 👍 Just shared this with friends. When you say, "Feat. Charlie Morningstar," do you mean someone with that stage name sang, did you collaborate with Charlie's VA, is there an app that replicates voices, something else?
I should preface the following opinion by saying that I still think this is an awesome cover and video and I will continue to recommend it if I think someone would like it. After listening to Raising Hell several times, I've finally put my thumb on something that, at first, just felt a little off. Whereas Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss use Christian lore as setting, characters, and worldbuilding, they never come across as preachy; on the other hand, this song is explicitly religious. Would Charlie actually be praising God? God and/or God's bureaucracy exiled her father, annually sends Executioners to slaughter her people, and is doing nothing (so far as we know) to redeem those already in Hell. Charlie is collaborating with demons, not angels. And why would she give credit to God for her own ingenuity and entrepreneurship? Especially considering the means she's outlined so far are all working with resources available in Hell. Like, yes, she wants to get sinners into Heaven, but you can have a story about religion without it being religious. Disney's Hercules, for instance, features characters, settings, and worldbuilding straight from ancient Greek religion. Charlie's approach that we've seen so far strikes me as more rehabilitation center than religious commune. Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, from what we've seen, treat Christian lore as mythology, whereas this cover and video make the franchise out to be religious and preachy. Again, I still enjoy the song and video--I just disagree with how it frames the franchise.
@@kairussell2156 That's a fair and thoughtful criticism. What drew me to the show originally is its apparent exploration of whether humanity can actually be redeemed. So when it came to rewriting this song, I'll admit, I wrote in my own understanding of the topic rather than what will likely be Charlie's (and Vivziepop's) eventual conclusion by the end of the show. I imagine the show will probably conclude with the idea that "heaven won't accept us, but anywhere can become heaven if we all work together to make it that way." Or something along those lines. But in reality, I believe that Charlie is correct when she recognizes that heaven is the only place where true peace and happiness is, and Alastor is correct when he says that no matter what sinners try to do to become righteous, we will all "trip and tumble down into the fiery pit of failure." That's because God's standard is perfection, and we have all done evil. Regardless of how much good we do to try to outweigh it, it's not enough. I need someone outside of myself to save me from myself. And, yes, in the show, there's no way that Charlie would be praising God. God in the show is probably going to be a stuck up snob who prefers casting people out and killing them. But if in reality God has actually come to earth just to rescue sinners like me and you (hence, Christmas), that is definitely worthy of praise! I'd love to know: how do you think the show will handle the problem of evil and redemption? And what do you believe is the answer to evil in real life?
I wonder if Hazbin Hotel will cover this; we know Charlie wants to redeem sinners so they can go to Heaven, but has she gotten approval for this plan from Heaven? It'd cause a lot of turmoil if she actually gave sinners hope and they changed their ways, only to be told, "Sorry, but judgement is final. What kind of justice would we be giving the victims of a serial murderer if we let him into eternal paradise?"
Yeah, my guess is that at the end of the show, they will find out that redemption is impossible and therefore they must either fight to take down heaven's corrupt hierarchy or simply make Hazbin Hotel into its own little paradise.
@@NOWABO I like the comics' idea better; where a guardian angel gives his blessing to Charlie to protect the inhabitants of the hotel during the purge, while not really knowing if redemption is possible (we do see a lot of the sinners in Hell reject the idea of redemption) but wishes her well on her quest. The archangels also wish redemption for their older brother Lucifer, but his stubbornness and pride keeps him bound in Hell.
Lol I was gonna add a rundown of the total somewhere, but I forgot. If I recall correctly, I snatched the instrumental from the original song for free, paid an artist $80 for the 4 character drawings, spent $10 on AI to generate the background from an image of the hotel, paid a vocalist $180 for the melody and harmonies (plus paid two other vocalists around $50 which I ended up not using), and paid my buddy $200 to tune the vocals, add some instruments, and mix all the tracks (which I was happy to do because he's awesome and he's done a lot of things for me for free in the past). So a little over $500. By far the most money I've ever spent on a video... and I knew going in that it was going to be demonetized because I was using the original instrumental... but I figured it would be worth it for the experience and getting this message out to lots of people. Well... I definitely hoped more people would see it, but I still think it was a good learning experience.
Sadly, no. I used Kesha's instrumental to create this track, so it's not technically a cover. In order to post this on Spotify, I would need direct permission from her label. And since the changes I made to the lyrics of the song are not satirical of the piece itself, it's also not technically a parody so I would have to get permission from the label for that as well. Lol I'm really glad you enjoy it, though! Have you heard the original?
