Sad indeed! Unfortunately when Michael Manley made alliances with Cuba, the people allowed themselves to be 'led' with screams that he was making the country communist. The vision of the people was very short sighted. It was Cuba's support that helped to start the Junior Secondary school system, for example. Back then, if you didn't pass common entrance you were basically cooked. The JSSS gave those who didn't pass an opportunity to learn a skill or trade and even to get another chance later to write the CEE again. He pushed for agriculture is another. People didn't listen. Jamaica ended up with IMF loans. The Jamaican $ went from 2for1 with the US$ to be what it is now, essentially worthless. Jamaica imports foods from the US that is grown in Jamaica. I could go on . Jamaica is paying the price for that stupidity. Now Jamaicans are doing it again... fighting the Chinese who are building infrastructure while not saying a danged thing about all the US n European hotels, etc lining the beaches and preventing locals including the fishermen from accessing the sea to make their livelihood... paying the locals peanuts and importing fooda from the US to serve in these hotels and resorts.. again foods that grow on the island. So no support for the local economy... just take and exploit the beauty of the island and give nothing back. UK wanted give Jamaica millions to build prisons👀, not schools or hospitals.. hmmm. The island flooded with guns and Jamaica don't have gun factory. There is a documentary if you can find it call Life and Debt. It is a good film to watch... sigh😢!
