A few reasons explain why stroke patients do not want to or feel like eating. First is the fact that facial paralysis can affect both chewing and swallowing abilities; second is the fact that people usually prefer not eating when they are not in the right mind; and third because of the brain stroke, the part or area of the brain that controls senses to detect smell and taste has been affected.
In this descriptive but precise video, Dr. Puru Dhawan talks about liquid diet, recommended for several stroke patients. When cases are critical, patients are fed through their nose (or wind pipe) via a tube, otherwise, they are fed liquid food via spoon.
