Great demo - all I can say is I have a pro-2 and it really is this good out of the box!! but when you fall into the filter routing, the sequencer, the mod matrix, the paraphonic voices... the pads... the lfos... I just cant put it into words - someone much wiser than me said "it's basically almost a modular". :)
Bradonomous not to mention how well it interfaces with an actual modular with all of the CV ins and outs it has joined my Analog four and eurorack to create one big Frankensynth
It really is the King of Mono. Plus, it is very nearly Polyphonic. See AutomaticGainsay for clarification. And the filters are just too much. Lots of hands on sound control makes it a players machine AND a studio cat too.
Wow, this is a new precedent for digital synthesis. It seems like we've been so stuck in analog vs digital that we never considered using the best of both. I think Dave has been trying to accomplish this ever since P'08 and may have finally succeeded.
Fante247 Pollux Polaris Yeah, I'd say he'd been doing it successfully since Sequential Circuit's Prophet VS in 1986, and the first synth he released as DSI (the Evolver) was hyrbid, also. I'm most interested in how this compares to the HSynth on the Spectralis; they boast similar features, and the Spectralis, for all its faults, sounds fantastic.
I think it makes a very good case. More versatile then anything analog outside of eurorack setups, better raw sound then any pure digital emulation, great interface, including all the connectivity.....its damn complete.
@@marvinkmooneyoz The Pro 2 has a great sequencer, that DOESN`T put out notes on the MIDI out... You have to copy each sequence to another track and then assign it in the menu. A real shame... if you wanna use it live and in combination with other gear. Makes no sense, to have all the connectivity for other equipment, but no simple MIDI notes out.
Funny, I had the video minimized, just listening then 12:46 hit and I was like, "Damn this synth does electric bass REALLY well!". Awesome sounds from this beast though. Time to start saving up.
Yeah, I figured it was an actual electric bass but it caught me off guard. Also, the image of the bass in the video. It sounds pretty cool through the pro 2's filter.
Wish Dave Smith had put these Custom Discrete LP filters on the Prophet-12 instead of the Curtis chips. Not saying the P-12 sucks, it sounds great, just that these filters sound so beautifully warm.
WHile I do like the 12 plenty, I'm frankly suprised by people that say the filters on it are great. They are more utility filters, THESE are LUSH. I would not make too many patches on the 12 where the filters are the standout feature, but on the PRO2 they are fully happy front and center, but are also great utilities, with their distinct nature , and the flexible routing options
this is my favorite demo of the Pro-2 by far! great patches! I love the sound, the features, the size and even the look of this synth...I only afraid of missing polyphony...I´d love to have 4 REAL voices on it. I was listening to the first patch and it`s quite full sounding, but I´m afraid of always have to use tricks like PWM or "supersaw-ish" oscillators to fat this synth up in paraphonic mode...maybe a sub-oscillator per note would be a nice touch but I think the sub is just for one oscillator, right? Do you find that 1 oscillator is too little for this kind of patches?...Is too much to ask you for a fully paraphonic demo? thanks!
Now that we have the AS-1, Repro1 and the Pro 2... which of them do you feel gets closest to the character-ful plucky bass sounds that Skinny Puppy / FLA etc used so much? I can't exactly afford a good condition Pro One and all the maintenance, but even the recent AS-1 A/B you did with them... just convinced me how amazing the Pro One really is.
I wish there was a re-issue of the Pro-1. Pure monophonic, could be less than 1000$, have some of the capabilities of the Pro-2. DSI is planning something if they're gonna be dropping their mopho's and stuff from their more affordable line-up.
it's using both filters in parallel mode with modulation on both cutoff frequencies and modulation of the filter type on the SEM style filter (moving from Low Pass to Notch to High Pass and then back via LFOs). It's a paraphonic mode patch
+Gus it has completely different filters and some new wave shapes. For the filters it has the new 24db LP from the Prophet 6 (based on the 1st Prophet 5) and the 12db state variable filter from the Oberheim SEM and new OB-6 (a collaboration with Tom Oberheim). It also has some new "super" waves in the oscillator section.
All of these are what were submitted to DSI for the factory bank. I don't know exactly which one's made it but surfing through the production model, I found most
While they are both synths and make sound, I would find this synth more enjoyable to program patches on than the TI. They both can do a lot of the same sounds and a lot different sounds, but I would say the TI has more sound possibilities. However, if you want something like the virus that can do even more and sound as good or better, check out Zebra. Leave the outboard for analog gear, romplers, or something like the Nord (which can sound analog but excels in it's programability and layering). Oh, and the Pro 2 is more "hands-on" than the Virus and has a great step sequencer. If I were you I would get the Pro 2.
If they really need analogue oscillators, DSI still has the Mopho X4, P'08, etc. I don't get why people say that DSI has "gone digital" or whatever. Besides, I personally find their hybrid synths (both old and new) quite interesting, especially now that they're adding more filter designs! I would love to see a real Pro-One and/or P5 remake someday, but the more modern sounding Mopho, Tetra, and P'08 are still cool in their own way IMO. Unfortunately, I can't afford another polysynth right now.
I love this synth. Just got mine yesterday. I'll be using this thing for a lifetime!

I think you sold me with the Ultravox reference. Can't get over how great this synth sounds!
nice one ... was waiting to see how would get that one ... highly under appreciated record especially the tune Lament ...
Wow, this is a new precedent for digital synthesis. It seems like we've been so stuck in analog vs digital that we never considered using the best of both. I think Dave has been trying to accomplish this ever since P'08 and may have finally succeeded.
Alot of Dave smith synths have this kind of signal path. Its not new

Your demos are always spot on 👌🏽
Matthew savant thank you
Really keen sound and crisp programming guys..top stuff :)
Wow this synth is absolutely insane sounding, thanks for uploading a demo of it!
That synth sounds amazing... Great sounds!
The best synth currently? Just what I´m searching since a long time ago. ALL IN ONE!
I think it makes a very good case. More versatile then anything analog outside of eurorack setups, better raw sound then any pure digital emulation, great interface, including all the connectivity.....its damn complete.

Beautiful demo thank you INHALTVIDEO
Great synth for the money. The variety is astounding.
By far his best synth yet! Gives me GAS on steroids.
Digging the Depeche Mode reference at 9:55 (Fast Fashion) :)
Fast Fashion Bass for the Win!
me too
Funny, I had the video minimized, just listening then 12:46 hit and I was like, "Damn this synth does electric bass REALLY well!". Awesome sounds from this beast though. Time to start saving up.
That last part is an actual electric bass plugged into the audio input on the Pro 2. That is why it sounds so much like an electric bass..
I thought the same thing, I was like whoa, thats a really good bass. I look at the video and I'm like oh...
Komet163B Using the Pro 2 as effect processor?
Shane Mayer same here too!
That first patch is close to a string ensemble with a small stone. Nice.
I'm gonna have to get one of these for sure!
Fast Fashion Bass is PHAAAT!!!!
Sounds just like a Pro-One, that bit right there...
Ace!!
5:17 PPG Wave. This machine has some very "era-oriented" sounds. Love it.

The vocally pad sound at 2.50 is my fave I think.... Nice and atmospheric. Jus don't tell me it's a layer. 😄
Daniel Anselmi
I'm the same boat. I wish it had 4 true voices.
Ever thought about playing a poly synth into the input for extra oscillators?

jmacatx id go with the as1 for any pro one related sounds. It can do those bass plucks really well. You just need to program it just right.
think I'll get this over the ob-6 because I have prophet 6
Great demo, love the sounds of this synth. any chance of the settings of synth sounds of patch at 7:00?
This is a mono synth? Damn! Path think I'm gonna change my order of an analog keys and a prophet 08 module for an analog four and this!

realy good!
Is tha Fast Fashion bass one of your creations? Sounde fantastic! Although i would have said more Nitzer Ebb than Depeche!
WOW ! Wonderful Patches ! Would you like to share this package ? PLEASE !
Greetings fro Germany
Marc Aston they’re in the factory bank that ship with the synth.
Nice man! Would you be able to give me an idea on the basic architecture of that first patch?
it's using both filters in parallel mode with modulation on both cutoff frequencies and modulation of the filter type on the SEM style filter (moving from Low Pass to Notch to High Pass and then back via LFOs). It's a paraphonic mode patch
Well done for sure. Thanks for the info!
Thats so cool you can sequence through filter types!
Did your presets make it on board for the launch?
yep :-) dunnno about all of them but I did hear the majority of what I gave to DSI
why does it sound so different from the Prophet 12, when its a strip down version of it?
+Gus it has completely different filters and some new wave shapes. For the filters it has the new 24db LP from the Prophet 6 (based on the 1st Prophet 5) and the 12db state variable filter from the Oberheim SEM and new OB-6 (a collaboration with Tom Oberheim). @@stevenmoller6882 are they really the same filters as the P6 and OB6? Damn....
are these banks for download?
Listening to these patches, it's easy to forget that this isn't a polyphonic synth.
Is the first preset included on the factory presets?
Heckin based!!!
How’d you make that first sound
It’s a paraphonic patch and I believe I was modulating the filter routing and filter cut off to create the analog phaser effect.
@@INHALTVIDEO cool, thank you!
Gotta be one of the best sounding demos of the pro 2, I've heard! Any chance you'll release the sound patches as a sysex file? All best
These were the sounds I made for the factory library that ships with the synth new so a lot of them should be in there stock
the looking glass ;-)
How much is this synth in the US?
You can find out by using gooogle
GREAT !! SOUNDS LIKE A PROPHET VS !!!!!
These aren't factory patches - They are great though!
All of these are what were submitted to DSI for the factory bank. I don't know exactly which one's made it but surfing through the production model, I found most
I own it - I don't see several good ones - and he likely changed the names...
I'd love to know which patch 2:45 is.
Eric Davis not sure of the name off hand but it's probably some clever reference to Tangerine Dream and choire/vocals
You can connect to a software???
Fl, Ableton, Cubase???
It is convenient to connect to a software?
yay human voice!
damn..
this sinth is in the same level as access virus ti 2?
While they are both synths and make sound, I would find this synth more enjoyable to program patches on than the TI. Wich one to buy best ? The Pro 2 or the Prophet 12 ?
Get both :)
***** I would agree that the P8 is more pleasing to my ear than the p12. I just took delivery of a ProTwo and would like the P8 module.
After nearly a year with both, I'd say..... Get both ;)
Bert Sticks i know, i got here the slim phatty and the korg vocooder, need some for pads and cool synth leads !
The Prophet 6 is the coolest instrument in the DSI stable at the moment.
mmmyessss
"peaked our curiosity" should be "piqued our curiosity".
yep ...noted :-) thanks
+Steve Smith
My curiosity has peaked ;)

Fl, Ableton, Cubase???
It is convenient to connect to a software?
you? better not...XD
Do me right up
Omg...
no french pdf manual only english ?
This things sounds insanely amazing. But just see how noobs are going to bitch and moan again about the oscillators not being analog. *Facepalm*
