- The Los Angeles Lakers return from the All-Star break to face the Golden State Warriors in the Bay Area. Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum says that being the face of the NBA is "mine to take." Watch as the crew discusses whether Tatum has a legitimate chance of being the next face of the league, then reacts to Doc Rivers asking the Milwaukee Bucks when hiring him: "I don’t understand why you are doing this."

Nick is a goof for this. Addressing something lacking in basketball discourse on a show that has a huge cultural influence on how we talk about basketball is EXACTLY how you change the narrative and raise the bar on causal basketball talk. You don’t have to be a smart a** and say x and o and defend the pick n roll. Let’s discuss ACTUAL basketball schemes and plays styles and matchups rather than dumb narrative based topics. As a basketball fan I want the major shows to become more observant to the actual game because we got way too many casual fans and that’s why you get a Dame Lillard as an all start starter because nobody knows real ball and left Brunson out.
Nah buddy. If you think the skip's and stephen a's are in control than you're simply wrong. The masses make them, not the other way around. If you wanna see actual plays and schemes then go where they do that at. I'm grateful for legs, and jj, but its weird for me to expect everyone to just do what i like. Basketball is a sport, its entertainment, and its not the end of the world that most people are into on a surface level. This literally goes for everything in life.
@@xcwilliams7980 if you think JJ reddick went “too deep” you need to stop watching basketball 😂 he went 1 foot below the surface and nick started freaking out because anything less than surface and he can’t even converse. It goes both ways, you can be entertaining and educational. Keep all the antics but also talk scheme. JJ is showing you just how it’s done and it’s clearly getting millions of views. My issue isn’t what I want to see, I alresdy tune into the places that do that. My issue is the dumb mind numbing surface level stuff ruins the game and I gave you an example how with dame and Brunson. And there’s so many more examples.
@@him4882 You are missing the entertainment part of it. Most fans arent interested on anything past the stats sheet. If you think you enjoy NBA more if you know about scheme and playstyle, then go for it. But stop acting like its something so important that viewers missing out if they dont know it. Worry about yourself and how you like it, stop telling other people how to enjoy their choice of the topic, and acting condescending like JJ does toward people.
@@tigera6 I won’t stop because it’s ruining the game
@@him4882 No, whats currently ruining the game is how star players resting, how the lack of defensive effort as well as the defensive rule are, and how the refs keep screwing around during the regular seasons. Those things hurt the NBA more than your view about certain aspect of the game. If you think its more important to bring up how defensive scheme and rotation, then be my guest.
The conversation for the face of the league started really well, and took a nose dive when Nick brought out the tiers.
It's about being iconic, not the best. There's no tier for that, you have to have IT. It's more like a boxing title, once you get it, someone has to take it from you.
Wemby is the only candidate right now, the great players right now are too close to eachother to get ahead and take that title, none of them trully feel iconic or era defining.
Nick's life depends on stuffing Luka's sausage inside his mouth, because all he does is come up with new and contrived reasons to overhype a dude who only jacks up threes and plays no defense. That's why he's gott pretend Luka's MVP votes put him over a guy who's a perennial title contender and already outselling him in jerseys.

Nick Wright picked LeBron in a debate? SHOCKER!

what role players thrive with lebron lol? everyone gets worse with lebron. kyrie is the one exception i could find. shooters shoot worse with lebron. rebounders get less rebounds on his team. he makes everyone worse.
Anthony Davis didn't win a ring without him did he? Kcp says no.
Some spot up shooters see higher efficency gains which is predictable as Bron gets more attention. Kyrie is the true outlier in the Bron makes his teammates better myth. AD is also impressive with Bron however Bron is more diminished than in his prime. People try to down play bosh when he was a top 10 player in the league before joining Bron. People also forget than the year before joining Bron Kevin love was a top 5 player in the league. Kyrie wasn't even a role player before Bron. He was already an allstar and was coming into his prime when he joined Bron.
Just off the top of my head do players like Austin Reaves,KCP, Malik Monk, Caruso etc. not exist? Also how is shooters missing wide open 3’s somehow LeBron’s fault lmaoo
@@AllBackends Austin Reaves has only played with Bron so his success to this point has no frame of reference. Malik monk monks efficiency dropped off a bit but his ppg are almost the same this year as his year with james. The biggest difference is monk started more and played more minutes. Alex never tried with Bron. His highest ppg was with Bron on fewer games than half a season. So it is hard to say it's sustainable. Again efficency was a bit up bit hardly thriving.
@@Tha_Trigga did Bron ever win a chip without at least one other superstar? No. 2010 Chris bosh and wade were both in the top 11 players in the league at a minimum. In 2014 kyrie was already an allstar and love was a top 5 player in the league. 2019 AD was already an established superstar

My top 5 in the nba right now is Jokić, Giannis, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum,Luka
Wildes bringing that A game today
Its up to both front offices, they both stuck between winning now and buidling for the futures
I didn’t realize this till now but Giannis don’t get brought up enough in the potential successors to Bron and Steph as the head huncho convos. Giannis used to get pushed like crazy his first two mvp seasons but that stopped.
Despite that push stopping, he’s been:
- top 3-5 in jersey sales since the 18/19 season
- top 2-4 in all star voting since 18/19 (lead it this year)
- confirmed by Nike in multiple shareholders’ earnings reports to not only have their most successful silhouette launch, he’s also onna their biggest money makers in the basketball division (Nike also views him as onna their key drivers for growth in the future)
- has a Disney+ movie and a new Amazon Prime movie that just came out
- was top 5 in digital viewers last year across all the nba’s platforms last year (9th this year tho from the most recent available numbers)
- was tied with KD for 3rd in endorsement earnings at 45M (Steph was 52M and Bron was 75M)
Tho he is 29 so he’d prolly be classified more as onna the current faces (but below Bron and Steph) he won’t have time to succeed Bron and Steph unless he has Lebron type longevity. The nba shouldn’t have stopped pushing Giannis cuz they wouldn’t be struggling to find the next guy if they didn’t stop. I will say tho, if Giannis left the Bucks like the media was pushing for they would’ve sent him to the stars and back
So LeBron is leaving La? Can’t see it at all.
I disagree with one thing brou said. AD is not a superstar. He is a star. He is the same level as Jaylen Brown
Its a crime that Nick is not acknowledging the Clippers as a contender this season
Why? They do not deserve the benefit of the doubt knowing their history.
No one is or will lol
People say the Clippers are contenders every year.
The Clippers are the Dallas Cowboys without the fans... always disappoint
No it isn't. Clippers are good literally every season and then Kawhi or PG or both are injured in the playoffs. This isn't rocket science.
He still picks the Mavs and Lakers over the Clippers 😅. Mr. Consistency. 😅
OKC technically DID make the playoffs last year with the play in
I dont think the play in counts as playoff stats OR regular season. Its its own thing
They didn’t think the warriors could win in 22’ lbs you never know what they can do
I love you Nick bro but the take on Curry saying hes tied to the Warriors is crazy. He is not tied. He is loyal and he was patient for his rings and for his moments. Im pretty sure if Curry wanted out on Golden State more then half the leauge would go up and beyond to get him.
Tatum has the best numbers on the best team year in and year out but he’s only top 8… okay
I personally would like to see that happen
Nick, Kuminga is already a beast at 21. 2nd best player according to Draymond Green. I wonder who I should take more seriously Nick Wrong or Draymond Green.
So lebron and the lakers need Trae Young, Kyrie and anyone else. To win.
Can the lakers get 6 more stars so they can win. Luke come on!
I would love to see Steph win another one!
Just cause you see posts on Twitter and headlines about players going to LA it doesn’t make it true you do know that?
That’s a great point by Nick about the levels when it comes to being the face of the league. Piggybacking on Wildes point of being unique. Jayson Tatum is just phenomenal but it’s nothing that we haven’t already seen. Jokic, Giannis, and Embiid would be the face if they actually wanted it.
Kinda disagree jokic is closer to Duncan than shaq. Big men are typically not the face for a reason. Guards and wings unless the big man is a unicorn like Shaq and Wemby.
They actually made crummy arguments; Wilde's claim that the face of the league must bring something different… makes no sense; it implies that fans are comparing players from the past to the current generation, just to decide if they should be the face of the league. Now, I don't know anyone who was looking up players from the 60s and 70s to figure out if Jordan was doing something different enough to deserve their fandom; nobody does; Wildes usually has solid takes, but this is just the result of them not having a solid idea of what it means to be the face of the league.
Nick is plain and simple a hater of anything that has to do with Boston; always has been, even if he has to deny it. I bet Nick saw Wildes bring up jersey sales the last time they had the FotL argument and barred Wildes from bringing it again, because it wrecks his arguments. Basically had to be arm twisted into admitting Jayson was a superstar, but still keeps moving the goalposts to put him below lesser player who have achieved way less and whose game is eons behind Tatum's.
But Tatum already has the 2nd largest jersey sales behind Curry. This means people like him. And if people like you better than everyone, how are you not the face of the league?... 🍀🍀
Because the skills have to match that if he came in top 3 in MVP consistently or at least for a few years then that will happen but 2nd in sales but 6th-8th best player ain’t the face of the league
because whoever is the face of the league has to accept that role.
@@shanerobinson925 he finished 4th last year and has a chance to win it this year if he puts together some signature performances and finishes with by far the best record in the league. I agree with you, but I think he’ll become that guy.
Ja Morant and Wemby will be the next faces of the League and it's not even close
it's cause he plays for Boston and Boston is really good and Boston people love the Celtics. whoever the best player on the Celtics is while they are good is always going to be top 5 in Jersey sales
I think a majority of NBA fans will agree that we do not want to see LeBron join his 4th team and ring chase. If he goes anywhere, it should be Miami, Cleveland, or stay with the Lakers. But really, optically, I think it would be best for him to stay with the Lakers.
I don't really care if he leaves or ring chase....he has been in the nba 20 or more years ......
Dude can do what he wants and take what every money or little he wants...same with curry.
Steph and Lebron era was the best
Wow, Nick still doesn't have the Clippers in his top 7 contenders but he's got Miami ...

😂😂... nick picking phoniex or Dallas to possibly win a chip dude is high
They tall the topics from first take lol
Or both? Why we leaving out when they both said that they'd love to play together?
Y’all the best!
Remember when ppl said Lillard would not leave Portland? Yeah I wouldnt bet on curry staying in golden state
Lillard ain't a Portland mega legend with 4 chips and all the personal accolades, he was just there for a decade plus getting bounced every year in the 1st and 2nd round. Curry turned Golden State fom the laughing stock of the league, to the most valuable franchise in the NBA.
@@replicantona doesn't change the fact that ppl said he will never leave Portland because of loyalty. Lillard for Portland was as curry is for warriors, their face of the franchise.
Nick just needed to find an argument, however hackneyed, to say Lebron had a better chance than Steph to win another title, so he made up this scenario where Steph would never leave GSW, basically saying that Steph would deliberately leave everything he still has in the tank, and retire instead of asking for a trade to a championship contender. This only makes sense n Nick's head because he hates having to answer this question honestly and admitting Steph has way more time than Lebron.
I'd say both chances are remote at best. Of the 2, I'd say Warriors have the better chance. They need 1 piece to put themselves into the championship comnversation, this year alone. And they just need Wiggins and/or Klay to play their 2022 game to win it all. Remote but not impossible. Lakers? The ONLY reason for them to have any chance is because the NBA WANT them to be champs and if they're close, will pave the way for them, UNFAIRLY.
You forgot that Nick said it wasn't with the Lakers its with LBJ leaving for another loaded team. You know like every other time.
Holiday is better player than Dame for Bucks
Both of them play like 1 game on 1 game off but Jrue can defend %100
Nick Wright just doesn't want to accept that AD is the best player on the Lakers.
If steph. Klay and Draymond and LeBron were on the same team. They are winning atleast 2
Why does the media care so much about Lebron and LA. Who cares who would win another hypothetical ring between LeBron and Steph, none of them are legit contenders. Can we actually talk about teams that are in the top 4 of their conferences who can actually win a ring? Jesus...
ESPN has never been so fixated on #6-11 in the West. The top 5? Not a peep about them outside of the Clippers
Nick Wright knows basketball 🏀 he is 💯 percent right with this 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Bad Boys were "the face of the league" and that was perceived as a problem. They were an era...
Jordan was viewed way higher which beat them out
I give respect to nick for saying Miami is one of the 7 top teams to win the title. Especially since everyone else is calling them a long shot even tho Miami is the defending eastern conference finalist and is better then last year.
I lean toward Steph only because he most likely has more years left in the league than LeBron. Steph clearly really loves to play and his game will age well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him join a strong contender (or attract a star to GS) if he plays for another 4-6 years
God bless ❤🙏 much love to you all
Nick said with a straight face he likes the lakers over the clippers 😱 we talking likes or basketball
I would totally let Wildes check my vibe
Nick is such a Clippers hater. Clips are one of the top 3 or 4 contenders easy. Oh and faces of the league in the future, Luka, Tatum, Morant, Shai, Ant Man, Wemby to name a few
Being the face of NBA, you gotta have that superstardom. Outside of Bron or Kobe or MJ. I don’t see anyone else that way. The league got lucky with Lebron while Kobe was still playing but after Bron, everyone else is just a really good NBA player or an Allstar
I think Wemby will eventually have that superstardom
Jayson Tatum has all the tools he needs to become the face of the league… talent, reputation, milestones. The only thing that he needs to be better at is his personality; he's gotta act like THE dude of the league. The guy everyone have to go through. But we already can see him having more swagger and being more comfortable with being the man on his team, so I think that if he wins this year, definitely he'll be the next.
I hope Nick forever keeps this cold. He sounds 100000000000x less annoying this way
Nicks list of contenders not having any of LAC, Min or OKC on is wild
Not mentioning SGA is absurd! Put some respect on him and OKC! We're second in the west when some thought we'd maybe be a play-in team!
It would be absolutely hilarious if SGA ends up signing in Golden State after Klay and Draymond retire in the next 2 seasons.
What if Bron took the Minimun and signed with either Denver or Boston
