The humor of Clint throwing a bucket of water on the ruffian, but missing the match always makes me laugh.

Clint Eastwood's revolver in this movie is an 1858 Remington, as distinguished by its ability to swap out cylinders for quick reloading. A brief clip of this can be seen in the movie The Perfect Storm, partially based on the real life 1991 Halloween storm that sank the swordfishing boat Andrea Gail.

That scene is great; shows off a really cool weapon from 1858, presents realistic gunfighting procedures, and low-key is used as an intimidation device towards the marshal ... great stuff 😆

I wish he had continued this character and have trilogy. I have seen nearly all Eastwood movies and pretty much like them all. When I see Eastwood is going to be in a movie I have developed a certain confidence these movies won't disappoint. My favorite western with Clint is 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly'. I watch that at least once a year.
You observed some things I had not considered. Apparently there's more symbology here than I thought.

Actually this film is more akin to 1953 “Shane” with Alan Ladd, the storyline is much closer with good town folk up against the bad guys wanting them out , then Shane shows up, hopefully you will get a chance to watch it sometime if you haven’t already, remember in High Plains the entire town was basically full of worthless people and the avenging Angel from beyond returns to avenge his death upon the bad guys and also the entire town themselves, at least that’s how I remember it, but Shane is excellent still holds up, just watched again a couple months ago, and see what you think about the parallels between it and Pale Rider, thanks again!

O and I chuckled when Preacher about to get shot through the window and of course good guy shoots bad guy from behind, classic!

Recently I watched Kelly's Heroes, Two Mules For Sister Sara, and When Eagles Dare. Those are some memorable Clint Eastwood movies, especially Kelly's Heros, watching that film was such an event.

The actor who played the Marshall was John Russell. He also starred in the 1950's western TV series "Lawman" in which he also played a Marshall with a steely and stoic demeanor. Eastwood's "Dirty Harry" in which he plays a San Francisco detective and, "Heartbreak Ridge" are some of his best work.

Interesting trivia, the actor Michael moriarty ran a acting class in New York and and one of his students he encouraged to keep with acting was Vincent curatola aka John sacramoni aka Johnny sac from the sopranos

I wish more people would watch this for the first time and love it. I love your thought about the devil and angel aspect. This is supposed to be sort of a sequel to high planes drifter. I read that years ago. This one. And high planes drifter are my favorite westerns of Clint’s.

I can totally see this as a "soft sequel" to HPD ... and watching them together is just a treat 😆

i could be completely wrong, but i think the marshal was "made up" to resemble the the character Lee Van Cleefe played along side Clint in the old spaghetti westerns?
    or just a simple coincidence.

Thanks for checking out this wee gem, so few reactors are checking this one out. Instant subscribe from me.
To this day it has just spoilt me seeing people lit with single window lighting in a cabin. It was the big talk of critiques back in the day as well, and was quite praised for it.
This movie and Silverado were a part of a tiny resurgence/come-back for westerns after quite some time. Even Back to the Future picked up on it with it's part three instalment. Can't tell you what it was like for fans of the man-with-no-name to all of a sudden make a comeback, especially with Eastwood in the saddle.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the support 😊 Eastwood on the saddle = box office success! Didn't even consider the resurgence ... thanks for bringing that up, and writing in!

"There's plain few problems can't be solved with a little sweat and hard work."
Fun Fact: The highest-grossing western at the box office made and released during the 1980s.
Authentic Battle Scars Fact: During shooting, Clint Eastwood sustained what he describes as the worst injury he has ever had on-set when a horse he was riding fell through thin ice and launched him forward. Clint suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Gun Enthusiast Fact: Preacher's (Clint Eastwood) revolver is a Remington Model 1858, modified from a cap and ball revolver cylinder to a cylinder that fires cartridge ammunition. However it was actually a Remington 1961 and not the fictional 1858 model that was given to avoid issues with copyright at the time.

If you take out the supernatural element it's a remake of 'Shane' with Alan Ladd

i understand its your tube but make your head smaller and to one corner without the blur and enlarged head everytime you speak would be great. yes you are the commentary but the movie is the spot light not you. this would get you more subs i do believe.

Hi there! Really appreciate your honest + constructive feedback, the reason for the enlargement / blur is to avoid copyright strikes. Will think of better ways of presentation :)
