- In their 75th anniversary season, NASCAR takes to the streets of Chicago for the first street course race in the sports history where ultimately history would be made with a shocking first time winner.
I can't remember the last time I cared about a Nascar race. I LOVED this one! Way to go Chicago, letting this happen. Way to go Nascar, trying something new.

That's kinda a help to SVG. He's an experienced street racing in supercars where so.e races are street races. With the wet conditions and, experience in rally cars. I think it certainly would have helped.

After seeing what Chicago did, and how little of a negqtive impact it had on the city, the City of Toronto should be contacting NASCAR to have a street race through an iconic portion of Toronto, there are a ton of Canadian race fans, nothing against the IndyCar layout around Exhibition Place, but those are far less exciting than the race in Chicago was. Toronto is the closest size Metropolitan city to Toronto (ironically as some may know, they are sister cities). It would be a great way to show off Toronto and it's iconic skyline.
What a finish! We've got some bloody good drivers down here in Australia and New Zealand. This was the perfect race for his debut given that we have a number of street races like this Down Under, but it's still bloody impressive having never raced the car - or any left hand drive - or seen the circuit before. I'm sure the learning curve will be steeper on ovals, but SVG is one of the most talented and versatile versatile drivers around at the most. Can't wait to see more! BTW, NASCAR and Indycar are killing it with the highlight videos. Formula 1 could learn a thing or two.

The weather didn't really let us see the full potential of this, but this was very entertaining, great on SVG. This could be special. I hope they make this even greater next time.
Hopefully they add cheaper tickets to bring in more casual and new fans.

Take away stage racing and I (a casual) will be more interested.
Weather benefited SVG as he’s the only driver in the grid used to driving in wet conditions due to NASCAR traditionally only racing in dry conditions

Haley did a great job taking a shot to get the lead back, but SVG looked like he was super calm and just regained it back. That’s what really impressed me, he moved through the last couple passes without contact, just great driving and a fast car.
That was a thrilling battle but unfortunately Haley overcooked it this time around. But props to him for giving it heaps against SVG!
More street racing, I'd become a fan .

SVG is unstoppable here in Australia and he will be in America if he decides to enter Nascar full time.
Chuck Van Gisbergen in any car you want and he will make it fly. The only thing that surprised me is that he didn’t punt anyone off on the way to victory. He is aggressive, but I have to admit he is awesome!
Didn't need to punt anyone.......he was that much faster that he could pass clean.......just racing his race like no one was in his way
Nope, SVG knows how to find the right line and how to control the car. Just superb
I love that the next-gen cars are better-suited for courses like this because it means we can expect more of them in the future.
You can see how much more control Gizzy has all the Americans cars skating all over the road while Shane’s smooth as silk 🤙🇦🇺

In my dream world, I would hope they one day would try and race ovals the other way around (clockwise) but I doubt that happens as the cars would need to be built for just that then.
1st win for an alum of the V-8 Supercars since Marcos Ambrose at Watkins Glen 11 years ago... drivers from the Supercars series can be more adaptable to the NASCAR Cup road races due to their expertise in driving heavy machinery like NASCAR stockers...
Plus the Next Gen cars are much closer to the modern V8 Super cars than any of the previous gen cup cars ever were

Just another Australian here. Watched this because of SVGs win. What do NASCAR fans think of the street circuit? They make for some fun racing. Great to see so many Americans commenting on this weekend's V8 Supercar round. Shane Van Gisbergen, International Motorsports Ambassador.

I have never doubted that NASCAR is all about going around a slightly curved straight full throttle all the way until the chequered flag, but look at this! They can go around the corners! Hats off to the Americans.
If NASCAR was like this more often I'd watch in a heartbeat. Between this, the rovals and the dirt at Bristol NASCAR is starting to interest me

First-time enjoyed watching the NASCAR races it was off the chart it's a shame bubba wasn't paying attention ended up getting smashed up. You really have to watch your mirrors. But it was a great race.
I hope SVG goes to nascar next year it will be interesting

Love Nascar. It' a bit like Aussie Rules. The thought of a stage win is a bit like getting a point for missing the goal. Yes they add up. Lasting the distance is endurance racing. What happens in the mean time is entertainment.

Now imagine how much faster SVG could be if they were allowed to cater to his dominant side and custom built a car for him with a right hand side steering wheel with stick shift on his left side? he would have been at least another couple of seconds faster.
That pretty much defeats the purpose of the sanctioning body. All the cars must be the same in composition.

Ovals in a lot of cases offer better action. You just have to have patience and watch them.
@@sweetnasty2423 Action yes, but if you appreciate Skill and not just turning left watch Bathurst. The Aussie V8 series is awesome. 300kph+ (190mph) into a chicane is nuts! for 6 hours! Bathurst is where it's at. To win that race you gotta have skills.

If it was really that easy why wouldn't any star from supercars, F1 or wherever just drop in and own everyone while making big bucks? Could it be the case that while its not as exciting to watch, theres nuance and difficulty involved in winning at oval style tracks?

Looks like some are only used to long left turns
If they could find a way to keep the cars from slipping under those tire, that would be a great addition. A lot of the cars would end up unscathed I think And could keep going.They look like they work great except that the car slides under them
There is a way to stop it slipping. Drive it properly. Watch SVG's graceful exits from the corners where he doesn't have problems with grip. He's a seasoned veteran of street racing in the wet and a class above the rest of the field here.
