@ItalianCitizenshipAssistance you might want to pass on that you can possibly now get an Italian ID card OUTSIDE of the EU. Detroit is now offering this on an experimental basis and I am already pending an appointment to visit them to get the Italian ID card for myself and my kids. I believe they will also upgrade my SPID access to level 3 and register me for the CieID digital ID application.
One very important point/topic not discussed here is digital id registration with SPID and if that's the best way to download official documents for proof of citizenship if your passport and registration is lost or very damaged in a fire, flood or any other way. What proof is needed to the consulate to get a replacement passport? An AIRE certificate from the comune? I can't imagine needed to resubmit all family documents for this proof. On another note. I was recognized 10 yrs ago before FastIT and never registered on that portal until recently. I created an account and my information was already in the system so no need to contact the consulate or comune for those wondering.
Apologies, totally off topic. I recently saw a UA-camr who is an American citizen only, but she is married to a dual (South African) Italian citizen. They flew to Rome and both entered the line for EU citizens. Obviously I knew the husband could use the EU citizen line because he has an Italian passport, but the wife only has a US passport. They couldn't film going through the entry process, so I can't confirm she actually entered Italy through this EU citizen line. Hence, my question: Is the non-Italian-passport-holding spouse of an Italian citizen allowed to accompany the Italian citizen through the EU Citizen passport holder line when entering the country?
You can't register until they confirm you as a citizen first. In my case of going through the Detroit consulate, I was registered automatically when they granted my citizenship recognition. It took a little while though. I think a few months. They had to send all my records to my ancestral comune and then wait to hear back from them that it was done then they processed the AIRE registration from there.
@@PaulFromCHGOIf you don't mind me asking, Paul, how long did it take before you were granted citizenship? Moreover, how long did it take for you to apply for and receive your passport after you were granted citizenship?
@@Laj-t9k A long time. Too long. It took me several years to get all the records I needed, then have records corrected (for example mis-spellings of my surname), then order the new, corrected records, then get apostilles for them then have them translated into Italian. I then discovered I needed more records, so rinse and repeat. After all that was done, it took 2 years to get an appointment with the consulate, turn in all the records, then I had to wait a little more than 2 years for them to finally grant my citizenship. After I was granted the citizenship, it was a few more months for the consulate to send my records to my ancestral Comune, hear back and then register me in AIRE. Finally, another few months to then get an appointment to travel to the Detroit consulate to get my passport ordered. Now, I am going back again because they just started offering Italian ID cards. I presume after I get the ID cards I will need to make one more trip to get my SPID 3 / IO / CieID set up so that from then on I can do things electronically with a digital ID. There are phone apps that you can use to "authenticate" yourself online to do things like sign contracts, look up records, vote / electronically sign EU petitions and so forth. The Passports and ID Cards will allow you to sign up for those. I can probably get a PEC E-Mail address once that is done (certified E-Mail that is legally recognized the same as a certified letter). This will save a lot of time since writing a letter to Italy could take almost a month to get there, then another to hear the reply. PEC will make that more instant to take care of government stuff / business.
Does italy impose a death tax on duel citizens not living in Italy. I have heard other countries doing this. Also I've been informed that if you stay for to long in italy you my have to pay taxes on your income even on retirement income. Is ether of this true?
I don't know about death taxes, but I there may be inheritance tax. My parents were dual citizens with Italy, not resident in Italy, and no death tax was incurred when they died. As for income tax, I believe that any person, resident in Italy for 183 days or more, does become a tax resident, and has to pay Italian tax, or at least do the paperwork. For time spent in Italy, totalling less than 183 days, in total, in a calendar year, neither Italian citizens nor extended VISA holders have to pay taxes in Italy. Some exceptions apply for some jobs, or students. My nonprofessional opinion.
The LA consulate is almost impossible to deal with I haven’t met a single person who happy with them I’ve meet almost 30 people including Italians from Italy living in Italy how can this be fixed
In my experience, if you live within the LA consulate jurisdiction (SoCal, AZ, etc.), you must go thru this consulate. 😢 However, I’ll also mention that I was able to somewhat circumvent this situation by using my relatives in Italy and obtaining documents via the Comune there. I don’t know if this latter alternative is available to you. Best of luck. 🤞🏻

@ItalianCitizenshipAssistance thank you! Was able to finally get a response. Seems your person was confused about my case. Hopefully Marco can get my document sorted so he can file the case.

I obtained my citizenship but did not get confirmation of AIRE yet ( detroit consulate). Can I go ahead and make an appointment for the passport?

Will you do a video on SPID
