- When Will Rigel Go Supernova? This video shows the FULL timeline of Rigel A(the main star of the Rigel Star System).
Rigel is a bright star locating in the constellation Orion. It is almost as bright as the star Betelgeuse.
Hey, It's a pleasure to write a comment down below! :P

Awesome! I'm proud that Rigel became bigger than Betelgeuse
*It's hard to predict*
a Red Supergiant doesn't even have a constant size
But it will be quite similar to Betelgeuse as they have similar mass(Rigel is a bit heavier tho)
@@AstroCatz Thx, btw I edited my comment because I found out you replied to other person with same question
Rigel initial mass was over 24 suns.. current mass is 21 Sun which its already had lost its 3 Suns mass after leaving Main Sequence
Betelgeuse initial mass was 19 Suns today its now only 11 Suns and it already lost over 8 Suns of its mass after it becomes a Red Supergiant..
Rigel was over 5 solar mass heavier so the difference is huge enough for Rigel to become a bigger Red Supergiant one day
@@messier8379 Yeah, Rigel might be already a Red Supergiant but we dont see it
@@astronomyodyssey1079 that scenario was called Blue Loop..
Its like a Red Clump scenario of Sun but for massive star
One of the confirmed Blue Loops was Canopus an A-Type Supergiant star
Rigel supposedly shed its out layer to become a Blue Supergiant again then expand again into a more unstable Red Supergiant but this aren't confirmed a Version of AGB but bigger
Love how betelgeuse goes YEET after rigel explodes.
Keep the great content up!
Intro improvement, Song improvement, Animation improvement, Art style also IMPROVED!
I can tell your content in 2023 is going to be astoundingly AMAZING! Also goodluck to ROAD OF 100K SUBS!!!!
(Also random question, Will you by any chance REMASTER all of your old animations you've done in the past?)
Next year maybe XD
@@AstroCatz hello I am from next year, it is next year now
Imagine seeing a supernova in the night sky, it would look incredible
Yes, and tiny too

I hope nothing bad can happen...
@@ihornkhrirbirb4495nothing to worry, the closest POSSIBLE super nova is hundreds of light years away, and even then there are no risks of GRBs.
As Rigel my favourite star, I really love your new animations, and the timeline itself!
Rigel has always been one of my favourite stars. The first science-fictiony thing I ever wrote involved a colony-ship of (almost) humans crash-landing on a planet around Rigel and having to make a new society.
...of course, stars that big usually don't HAVE planets at all, but, c'mon. I was a kid at the time. :P
just switch Rigel with Rigil Kentaurus 😉
I used to thought Betelgeuse had like 4 super earths and 2 gassy's- 😭
Keep the educational and humourous planetball content up, DogePro.

Wow Rigel Is Going Into Supernova In 1 Milion Years
it might be quicker
some evidence shows Rigel had already passed Red Supergiant phase
@@AstroCatz
Yeah I Know
Saying frankly, I love more of your timeline videos instead of planets
Great video Dogepro! I did miss the premiere, but I just watched it and.. wow! I did not expect it to be that good. I like the remix of your song. Also 1:40 , who is that in the left lol
A Black Hole
I like how they compared it to Betelgeuse!
Yay another cool video about timeline!
I've heard some speculation that Rigel could potentially change between red and blue giant stages. Not sure how this would work but I genuinely think Rigel will go boom before Beetleguise
Almost certainly not. Betelgeuse is at the very end of its life and won't go through any more phases, or at least, is extremely unlikely to according to our best measurements of the star - It will eventually exhaust all the usable fuel in its core and go supernova, no later than around a million years from now, but likely much sooner; a new (although yet to be peer reviewed) study has suggested it is just decades away from a supernova, which means we may see it in our lifetimes. Rigel will take at least as long, if not closer to two million years to reach this stage and go supernova. As you point out, it probably still has red, blue, possibly yellow etc. stages to evolve through before reaching the point at which Betelgeuse is today, where in astronomical terms the end of its life is imminent. By the time Rigel goes supernova, it and the Solar System will have drifted significantly from each other, and it will probably be several if not over 10,000 light years away from us. At this point, considering what sort of supernova it is likely to cause, it probably won't be particularly spectacular; depending on where in the sky it is at the time of its death, there's a good chance the supernova won't even reach Rigel's present magnitude from our perspective. The same applies to Betelgeuse were it to take the highest value and not go supernova for another million years, except Betelgeuse's supernova would likely be even dimmer from thousands of light years away.
@@cryoraptora303tm2 there has been a paper published recently which states that beetlegeuse could be in its carbon-iron phase with 10

Oh my I agree
Betelgeuse when Rigel is about to explode: Bye!
Earth and Mars at the final looks so cute!
I like the use of diffrent colors in Rigel once it becomes a hyper giant but may I ask what do you use to animate?

Rigel is also more heavier than Betelgeuse btw
good bgm!

Fun fact: Rigel is actually a clister of stars it can be nore than 4 stars!
I love the music @Dogepro
Only one thing has bother me whats gonna happen to Rigel's Three little companion which were three B-Type main sequence stars..
Are they gonna get ejected during Supernova explosion or they will remain to Orbit Rigel A until the end of their time?
Rigel will lose 85% of its mass before it dies
@@AstroCatz so about the Three smaller stars of Rigel star system..
Did They will survive the supernova and remain intact to the system...or they will get ejected making the Rigel system broked up
@@messier8379 They'll likely become unbound from Rigel, either during its final red supergiant phases or shortly after it goes supernova. The huge energy that rebounds onto the collapsed core during the supernova process causes it to accelerate to high speeds, which then leads to it becoming unbound to any distant objects. Considering the Rigel B subsystem is at present 2,200 AU away from Rigel (several times the distance between the Sun and the hypothesised Planet Nine), it will likely be over 20,000 AU (or about 1/3rd of a light year) distant from Rigel by the end of its life - if the two don't become detached before the supernova, the intense acceleration of the stellar remnant will surely detach them.
I made my own universe where stars live 1000 times longer than normal stars in universe
Rigel, if it has not yet gone through a possible RSG phase yet, could evolve to become a larger, but still blue, star that has a radius of 125 solar radii that produces outbursts every few years. It could be a ‘luminous blue variable’ star already, with a mass 20x the mass of the sun and a radius 80x that of the sun, out to Mercury.
May use this song in my timeline of UY scuti i couldn't find it on your music page.....

Rigel is rather interesting because blue supergiants usually don't get this big (78R☉), they're usually at about 20-50R☉
Song name?
That's not entirely all true, it is extremely massive 18 to 24 solar message to be precise on power with the main sequence O8V type
Rigel is going supernova in 8 million years

Yay my favorite star.
What a happy ending
that means the initial spectra of Rigel's star is O8-9V

My favourite star😊
I "thought" that giant stars in main sequence would be strong enough to hold themselves in a spherical shape due to their existing gravity. Even if it's a short time, isn't that why they form to begin with? These stars are said to be stable in that short period of time, besides the massive amount of radiation. They lose little mass at formation and when they do, it's usually flares. Mass loss is mostly in the later points of their existence.
I can understand red (hyper or super) giant phases, since these are the points in which fusion excells on the unfused layer, forcing it to expand away, compressing the core as a result. But the imbalance in shape of the star is usually because the star cannot retain the external mass in a centralized point since it's fighting against its own gravity.
It's not because the star is massive and fast fusing, it's just how so much mass is spread away from the star's central gravity in such little densities, that it has little form to sustain a spherical shape. This is essentially what the red (hyper or super) giant phase is for say.
This is also another reason why high mass is lost in these stars. They just can't hold themselves together when their core no longer fuses as efficiently as for when their outer layers do.
👍
I drew Main-sequence Rigel round. The irregular part is the inner atmosphere.

Hey you should see the video That I made on Rigel
Rigel is a 4 star system, not a single star. There are rigel a, ba, bb and c
I'm making my own timeline of Rigel but instead with all the stars as a christmas special but my animating software caps out at 30fps but your editing software, I just realized, can make animations at 60fps, nonetheless, great animation, and that Procmas remix was so good, anywhere I can find it? Also do you think Tropical Storm Hone will ever form in the central pacific?
