Thanks for the explanation. I was in the shop yesterday and was going to ask you this exact question. I saw that you have all the wiring solutions for available for purchase in the store. Now the question is this, can you run the fridge off of a single battery, or do you recommend a dual battery setup?

Hey John, this is Morgan @ Equipt. Thanks for coming by yesterday!
In my experience, it’s doable but you need to be mindful and prepared for a potential dead battery.
I currently run my 50l off my main battery but there is always the risk of stranding yourself with a dead battery by doing that. The ultimate goal is to make it home, can’t do that if your fridge kills your battery in the desert.
I rely on the fridge’s voltage cutoff levels to protect my cranking battery. I leave my fridge set on the “high” voltage cutoff point of 11.5v. If the fridge draws the battery down to 11.5v, it turns itself off. At that point, you jeopardize the contents of the fridge if it’s off for too long but I can still crank over the motor.
I’ve also run a solar panel and controller to my main battery while in a sunny camp. The panel offset the fridge’s draw on the battery and kept the fridge running all day long while my Jeep was parked.
It’s can absolutely work but I’d bring a jump pack to start the vehicle if I was doing this consistently. Carry something like a Noco lithium jump pack. Always have a plan B to get yourself home.
