There definitely is a turning point in the story where Harald, who was famed as a warrior, comes to be considered wicked by his contemporaries. To the very end, I felt Harald was a much better warrior than a he was a king.
Being a leader ironically takes away a lot of personal freedom and you're constantly surrounded by people who want to knock you down. When you sacrifice so much of yourself, it's hard not to be jaded about life.
@@HistoryDose Given his situation maybe being wicked was a good course? We can't expect Kings of the past to always be virtuous and nice to be effective. Ceaser and Napoleon by some extent were both tyrants, great leaders though...
I read a story that Tostig and Harald Hardrada parlayed with a single rider before the Battle of Stamford bridge. The lone rider spoke only to Tostig and offered him his earldom back if he turned on Harald Hardrada. Tostig then asked what his brother would be willing to give to Hardrada for coming all the way to England. The lone rider replied, “Seven feet of English Ground, as he is taller than other men.” Then the lone rider went back to the Saxon host. Hardrada was impressed by the rider’s boldness, and asked Tostig who he was. Tostig replied that the rider was Tostig’s brother, Harold Godwinson himself.
Harold Godwinsson was a two faced injun giver ( not a man of his word) I absolutely believe the account of him pledging his support in any dispute over the English throne with William as he was only prepared to do so to get himself out of a tight spot after being shipwrecked. He was quite o.k. with pretending to give his word but after said he was tricked into it and hadn't realised Holy relics were concealed where he swore. His genes live on in bankers and real estate agents.

“The Last Howl of a Dark Age” hits different
Amazing story telling , hats off !!
I’ve watched so many history docs, essays and animations on UA-cam. Hours and hours over years. I’m putting my 2 pence in and I think this is the best channel. Would love to see an episode on ‘King death’, the artistic and metaphysical interpretation of the Black Death. HistoryDose has the right atmosphere and elan. Keep up the amazing work.
Worth the wait. Fantastic content
Yessir! Can't wait to hear another top tier historical story time needs to hurry up 😂🙌
As an American with English, Welsh and Norwegian roots, this history is amazing to me.👍
This channel is absolutely awesome!
Harald Hardrade - Th movie we need.
Incredible, as always. Thank you for your time and effort. I’d love to see histories on the Great Heathen Army’s battles with the Anglo Saxons.
the hardest history channel out there!!
man your storytelling is absolutely amazing
Truly enjoy watching and listening your videos
Amazing video! As always, the art is top notch and the narration epic. I hope we get more eastern Roman history though, maybe the battle of Kleidion (1014) and the brutal treatment of the Bulgarian captives by Basil II?
Always amazing stories and visuals , and happy holidays to you and yours
The sound ambiance is realky well made bravo

Most underrated channel UA-cam!
Man these videos are awesome - absolutely love the dark scenes, music, the use of words and narration
Wow wow wow! So well done! Thank you so much for making this. You’re incredibly talented - both the narration and the visuals were faultless. So happy I found this channel!
This is just plain Awesome.
netflix or amazon should make a tv series with Harald as the main character.Change my mind.
His life is way too brutal and his character way too unapologetically violent for netflix . Impossible to produce something like this in today's climate .
Would absolutely awesome through, what a life this guy had
@@JayzsMr as brutal as ivar the boneless in "vikings ". So,not a problem.
Just found this channel, killer job man!
Loves the stilicho episode, perhaps more romam history in the future?
