  • Another great outing in Colorado along Seg 3 of the CT. We parked at the Shinglemill trailhead (free parking), made the quick hike over to the CT and headed south. While the overnight temps in May are still quite cool, we opted to find a site on a high point to avoid the cold air that sinks into the lower parts at night. We wound up camping at the intersection of the Little Scraggy trail and the CT with great views in all directions. After camp we had dinner and took a nice walk along the CT. The next day we hung around camp watching the sunrise, listening to nature wake up and then packed out as storms were in the forecast for early afternoon.

Thanks for the feedback, James. We are trying to get out as much as possible and get our legs ready for our summer backpacking plans. You will love the CT, it is an amazing trail end to end.

Thank you, Don. It's hard not being able to get up in the high country (on dry ground) so the lower elevations trails keep us busy and trail ready for summer. When are you heading out on the CT? It's an amazing trail end to end!

    Nice overnight.
That chair caught my eye! I just ordered one. That’s a luxury item I can get into. Thanks for taking us along.👍

The Helinox Chair Zero is worth the 1lb weight penalty. There have been so many times we just wanted a comfortable place to sit on trail and there just wasn't any place feasible. This little chair has been a game changer for us.

I had to check back in to see how y’all are still liking the Helinox Zero. No problems with them?

We love the Helinox Chair Zero! If anything, and anyone who has this chair will agree, if you're on soft ground the back legs can sink in! Our remedy, we made a sit pad out of a Therm-a-rest sleeping pad that also goes in our Gossamer Gear Mariposa packs, replacing the back panel they came with. We put this panel under the legs of the chair if the ground is soft, as well, we can sit in our tent with the pad underneath to protect the floor. Now we have an item that is used for multiple functions, saving more pack weight. To date the panel is used as described above and as a place to kneel to get in the tent, take shoes on and off, wind block for stove and yes, an actual sit pad.

@@MADHippiesLife Thanks for the good info! Great suggestion on using a pad. After having to camp that one night in a burn area last month and no place to sit or lean against without getting soot covered, even the tree bases were black, I remembered that y’all had purchased a light weight chair. I ordered one yesterday.

Been there many times on trail, the last episode that pushed us over the edge to buy the chairs, leaned up against a tree and found sap all over our clothing. Definitely a great item to have along. Luxury, yes. Comfort, yes. Worth it, absolutely.

@@MADHippiesLife Yes. I can live with 1 extra pound for a few days.
