  • This week we're continuing on with a series that I was honestly very surprised Toni enjoyed as much as she did, Smokey and The Bandit 2. This one while enjoyable, didn't have quite the same magic as the first one. It was fun to see all of the actors back and we had fun with it. Now the big question is, do we continue on with Part 3? Let us know in the comments!

From the late 70s through the 80s, the Great American Truck Racing series ran several NASCAR tracks. The series started off with stock road trucks, but as the series progressed, they became more tuned for racing. The opening scene pulled clips from the 1979 race at Atlanta

If you want to see more with Sally Field. I recommend two films. First, I recommend "Murphys Romance". A great 1985 romantic drama. The late James Garner stars along with the late Corey Haim. A very nice film. Carole King does the music for the film. Finally, I recommend "Places In The Heart, a great 1984 drama. About a widowed mom struggling to keeping a farm going during The Great Depression. John Malkovitch, Danny Glover, Amy Madigan and Ed Harris Co-Star. A great film. Great reaction!

Parts of my town in Florida was filmed during filming of this movie. My friends and I skipped school on the day when they are doing filming some scenes in town. My friends and I stand close to Bandit Semi (Snowman's ride) as truck parked behind of local Circle K. We met comic actor, Dom DeLuise (doctor). Seen one of the iconic black Trans Am (Bandit car with huge Panavision Camera mounted on the hood. I even met "Fred" the dog and his stand-in with their trainers.

A lot of the place was made into Lakewood Amphitheater & it held many concert events! Last time I went was the Georgia Jam '92 to see Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mothers Finest, 3 Special, Wet Willie, The Hell Hounds & one of my favorites Atlanta Rhythm Section

The truck race at the beginning was an actual race.except for Snow man's GMC General. It was on television. And big rig race still exists, mostly in drag racing. Up hill, pulling overloaded double trailers. All that, including that 1981 Atlanta race are on UA-cam.

The woman talking to Jackie Gleason outside the church asking about the floozy Junior is marrying is the country music star, Brenda Lee. She sings the song that plays behind Sally and Burt when she first arrives at the Gator motel. Also, Roy Rogers is singing the song about me and Trigger when we first see Carrie and Bo drive by the camera.

"Well as you can see Bandit, I've got my piece in my hand."
"You've got your WHAT in your hand?"
Fun Fact: Only Dom DeLuise and Burt Reynolds franchise team-up.
Preeminence Privilege Fact: Jackie Gleason's scenes were filmed first because he was ill and he wanted to be finished with the movie as soon as possible.
Music Enthusiast Fact: The Everglade Gas Station Attendant (Dudley Remus) played the guitar part of the famous Deuling Banjos (1972) in the movie Deliverance (1972).
Automobile Enthusiast Fact: To the chagrin of the stunt crew, the Turbo Trans Ams didn't have quite the performance they were hoping for. So to get a respectable amount of speed out of them, they installed nitrous oxide tanks.
An Elephant Remembers Fact: Charlotte, the Asian elephant, was portrayed by an elephant named Cora. Cora was owned by Bill and Cindy Morris of Elephant Encounter. Bill was a second generation elephant trainer. He and Cora literally grew up together. Both of his sons have also worked add elephant trainers. Sadly, Bill passed away suddenly back in 2015. Their last two elephants, Cora and Shannon went to live out their years at Topeka Zoo in Kansas. Cora is nearly 60 years old now.
Epic Stunt Fact: At least at the time the movie was made, this picture contained one of the biggest car chases in film history. Publicity stated that it involved sixty stunt-men and stunt-women, one hundred cars and eighteen wheeler trucks. When the sequence was concluded, $250,000 worth of vehicles had been smashed. The world record for the longest stunt car jump by a car powered with its own engine, at 163 feet, was performed for the film. Stuntman Gary Davis jumped a 1974 Dodge Monaco car for the roundup sequence in this movie. Davis unfortunately was injured during the stunt, receiving a compressed vertebra from a hard landing.

You should do a Race Car series with Stroker Ace (Burt Reynolds), Six Pack (Kenny Rogers) and Days of Thunder (Tom Cruise). Great observation, Toni! There is definitely no place between Florida and Texas that looks like that. I remember a place near Dallas (Grand Prarie) called International Wildlife Park from 1971-1992, they could have taken the Elephant to, so that may have been the inspiration for the movie. This one was just so silly and ridiculous. The first movie was WAY better. Don't watch the 3rd one on the channel, please.

Part 3 isn't really very good as a movie... But it can be fun, if you go in with low expectations. It has its moments that're good, driving home the point that you can't really have either a Smokey or a Bandit without the other. But it does suffer a LOT from having Cletus be the new Bandit, and Dusty basically taking over for Frog. Though I did have a crush on Dusty for quite a few years, there...

I'll be there! Hey, did Toni wear a Stetson and cowboy boots for this one? Do both of you own any Texas clothes? Since you are Texans, I'm from cold inner-city London!
Don't do Part 3 - It's just the Sheriff complaining all movie long being borderline racist and sexist and unnecessary nudity!

I do own some boots but do not have any cowboy hats. or maybe I do somewhere in my closet.... Probably won't do part 3 for the channel. - Toni 🤓

First saw this one with my parents and brother at a drive-in theater. Watching it later on as I got older, while it had its moments, it's not anywhere as good as the original. It's almost like they were forcing the story along to just make another movie. The third one just got worse.

The Hooper movie is so much better than the Bandit movies.

Smokey and the bandit 3 doesn't have Burt Reynolds Jerry Reed as the bandit he was the truck driver. not a good movie.

You should definitely review Hooper, probably Hal Needham’s best movie. Honestly do NOT waste your time on Cannonball Run II or Smokey III, they’re both beyond abominable… unless you want to see for yourselves how awful they are 🤮
