I was wishing I had a father-in-law like Claude Raines, such a wonderful gentleman on an off screen. Additionally a great patriot who left England & returned to fight with the British in WW1. He gained dual citizenship & was a great American as well.
Despite alcohol & cirrhosis finally taking him, he was not the stereotypical mean drunk, but rather functional , displaying gentlemanly poise with a confidence & grace. To find out that he was alcohol dependent was kind of a shock - as all the people who came in contact with him have nothing but fond memories of him before and after his death. And oh yeah, a fine actor & role model. RIP 🇬🇧🇺🇸
SO good!! Anything with Claude Rains is AOK in my book; and John Garfield ❤Love that actress, too
This is the youngest Anne Shirley I've ever seen onscreen. She is absolutely adorable. This is one of Garfield's early films too, years before his many famous appearances in film noir such as "The Postman Always Rings Twice."
They have to use dift. Titles and credits to show it.
Indeed this movie is a rarity Seeing a true interpersonal relations in a normal Christian family. Reminds me of my dads family with his 8 siblings in a large Iowa homestead! How exciting it must have been for everyone that was honest and trusted in Gods providence! 25:45
A rarity of a film. Portraying deep love and profound human emotions. Showing the depths of goodness, hope, and real life situations. Great beauty in this film. A capturing of the human soul with it needs and challenges, disappointments, sorrows, misunderstandings, and final realization that though life is often very hard, It is still worth living, because true love is reason enough.
Wonderful film. But I saw another version, different production company.
True love is reason enough to keep on living. Very beautifully written. Thank you kindly.❤️

What a joyful movie really warms the heart attitude is everything in life especially through the trails and tribulations in life's journey.
What a great well acted flick . This is a good story about the emotional rollercoaster of life and dedication. Claude and Garfield are some of my favorite actors. Tku for post.
If she loves him she would let him go. Being deceitful is not Love.
Exactly. They were young, they had time. She could have joined him later.
This is where our current generations youth ~ can see clearly how much home training was needed to work in Offices. Stress begins with an In-Box full of papers. Computers ~ changed ~ this whole game. 💫👈🏼
I think the real name is Saturday's Children
Look at the bright side. If they got to go to Manila, they would have been there just in time for the Japanese Invasion. Then they could have starred in the "sequel," "Bataan Death March."
$22.50 a month rent in NYC. My son pays $2000 today for the same thing. This country is not doing better than any other in the world except a few . Whats WRONG with this picture? Everything. We lead the world in just 1 thing, dishonorable as it is....war including depriving Americans of basic necessities to spend their hard earned money on weapons that do just 1 thing.
In ‘71 I paid 65 for a studio one block off Broadway in San Diego CA.
Sensitive, intensely written story of reality, at that point in history. (For that matter, now, as well!). I really love this movie!
However, way, way too many commercials!!!!!
Oh I heard a ugahorn. I love ❤️ to hear them when the go uga uga. One of my friends kids bought him an Uga horn for his birthday 🎂. 😅😅😅🎂🎂🎂
This reminds me of the song 🎶 I’m a Day Dream Believer by Anne Murray. 🎶🎶🎶🥰🥰🥰
I felt really nauseous listening to her catching him.😣 And the reaction of the others when he explains he changed his mind. Anyone else feel like that?
I'm giving the thumbs up on this picture even though the OP not only posted the wrong title (It's really called Saturday's Children from 1940), but this is NOT even an English picture, but an American one.
Sorry Rims, Tagalog is the main dialect in the Philippines not Spanish.
He would probably be dealing with the factory/lab owners/managers, not the workers, so he'd have to speak Spanish with them.
@@sharonpolikoff7282 In 1898 the Filipinos won independence from Spain who didn't have it long. There is almost no Spanish influence here. FYI. I live here in the islands and married a Filipino
Oh, I see. Thanks for clarifying.
@@sharonpolikoff7282 Sure thing. I am glad these great old films are available on this forum. It is one of the very few ways to get American TV here.
@@stevegilmore1940 Actually, the Spanish did indeed "have it long", over 300 years and in the 1930's and 40's there was still a strong Spanish influence with large companies and land-holders from old, established Spanish families that still exist to this day. In those days, Spanish language would have been helpful working for those companies.
It is a good movie Thank you so much.
Rims is getting reamed around the Rosson.
Navigating the challenges of it doesn't give the cast names
Luv it
really adorable movie
U-Yube commercials are getting worse and WORSE.
Did anyone count the increasing number of commercials on UA-cam?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Saturday's Children 1940
none of the artists given credit - why not?
Anne Shirley, John Garfield
@@danny1682 And the magnificent Claude Rains.
Not my favorite movie 🥴
I always believed in the Black love looks delicious.
Why couldn't he go to the Philippines for a while as her husband and then come back...also why couldn't she get another job 🤡 how annoying!!!!!!
On my first date with a boy I had first met he took me bowling 🎳. I had never 👎 bowled in my life and I was terrible 😣 at it. The only game that I was good at was Candy Land. My mother bought it for me when I was a 7 year old girl. 😅😅😅😊😊😊
First time I bowled with my girlfriend (now wife) I got my rear handed to me. She carried about a 190 average, me?- more like 90.
