I used to do this in highschool i asked a Muslim woman to teach me cause it looked so beautiful 😍 and I've been trying to remember how she thought me and this is the only video i found that shows exactly how she showed me thank you 🙏
Great tutorial. One of the very few I see that actually show what the wrapping process looks like from behind. A key step for me in learning how to wear head wraps.
Head scarfs are NOT just a muslim thing. The natural women in my family have done it for as long as I remember. That's just something our ancestors taught us to do from Africa.
Its almost 3 am and Im up having a ball with this. You made it so easy to learn and I have done it 3 times already... youre a very good instructor, thanks again and again.
I am Christian and I have been head covering for about ten years. This is something I would wear to work. Very professional. God Bless all my Christian Sisters!!!!
Very simple which is what I was looking for! I love head wraps and love seeing women wear them, I just never knew how to do it myself. I will definitely be practicing this technique and rockin it with some big hoop earrings soon!
Doing the tie at the back causes my hair to break off, so I usually cornrow or twist the hair at the back, concentrating only near the nape. Then I do the wrap. I also spray with a homemade spray then wrap a satin fabric then I'll put on the head wrap. This also helps with my nape hair. Just a little info. ;)
Thank u for posting this because I've been wearing this for the last few days. Time to get my hair retwisted but to lazy to do!! And thank u for turning away from the camera so we can see what your doing!!
I think so. If you can achieve a pony tail, even if it's a short one, you can add some extra padding (hair) around the bun before you put the wrap on. I also think a smaller bun would look just as nice. You can practice wrapping one end of the wrap around to create a bun and then finishing off with the other end.
Oh yeah, I have cut all my hair off so I didn't have that area that you had with your pony-tail. what I did was took a scarf as I was tying and stuffed the area of the pony-tail so I had the puff back there to wrap it around and it worked!
this helped me so much. got it on my first try. a little lose, but still cant believe i got it on my first try. that never happens. Thank you for this!
Aww Catrina, Hello Sister :D . LOVED this simple version. I don't think that great things are complicated. My Aunt's way of doing this style involved 3 scarves.....no Thank you. This keeps it fun. Plus, it is a good jump off point that I can use to branch off to more experienced styles in the future.
Thank you for facing away from camera while doing the actual wrap -- most people face camera and tie in back and i'm like hello can we see what you're doing please. chuckle. thanks again for taking time :)
Terry from Los Angeles, California. I really like the way that you tie your hand wrap. It makes you look like a Royal Queen. A Hebrew Israelite Queen of the Bible. I am trying to get my my woman that I mixed it in in the Dominican Republic. To wear the hand wraps. I hope she does. All praises to the most high
Nice tutorial Catrina. You are beautiful! I used your tutorial to show my daughter how to wrap her hair for a folkloric Plena outfit (Puerto Rican dance). Thank you!
I don't know why I can't reply to some comments, but someone asked below how they can prevent their scarves from slipping. Some ways of tying are less likely to slip, and some materials are more slippery than others (silk is really slippery). There are a few ways to handle it. You can use bobby pins if you only need a week hold. If that's not strong enough, you can buy a velvet headband from a lot of Jewish head-covering websites and that will hold it in place. Some people also like to put caps on your their head, either by going out and buying a hijab liner or by cutting the foot off a stocking and putting that on their head. A lot of Jewish sites are now also selling what's called a "volumnizer," which is basically a cap that gives you and automatic bun to build on.
Loved it and it turned out so beautiful. I have several of those scarfs like that so Im excited about using my scarfs. Love my hair but love wraps more. Thanks Sister.
Well I hope wearing wraps helps boost your confidence right back up to where it needs to be. I know sometimes we say, "It's just hair" but when it's gone against your will, it can really be a blow. I wish you the best with your treatments going forward. Take care.
I would tie the scarf and then use the extra length to wrap like a bun. PrairieSunrise has a video called "Cinnamon (basic) bun on long hair" that shows what I would do if I had a little bun. Hope this helps.
Do you wear a silk cap/scarf underneath your wraps? I do because it adds another layer of protection. Cotton/cotton blend headscarves dry out the hair.
@mystiquelady33 You are so welcome. I'm really glad you were able to get something from this video. I had been trying for a while to learn to wrap my hair in a simple fashion and I stumbled upon a fotki tutorial. I learn well from pictures, but I thought others might benefit from a video demonstration. Enjoy your wraps :o)
Thank you, this was a great video for me getting my wrap right. I also have to say, thank you for telling us to be patient. Not my strong suite so it's easy for me to get frustrated. :o) It really helps to know that it can make others frustrated too.
Excellent. But how have you tied your bun. Would you plz upload a video on making bun under wrapper ? It'd be helped me a lot. You look great. Thank you.
Nice demo, you clearly show the back portion in the camera, And I really like it. Next time show the scarf of light material or lace material for a demo. Thank you.
Its funny how this is a trend for protective styling now. I've been doing this my whole life because I'm Muslim and I even got taunted just for wearing them. It's nice to see that people actually think they're beautiful now. They're also very modest looks as well.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my video and leave a comment. I've always thought wraps were beautiful, I just didn't know how to wear them. Once I learned, I wanted to make it easier for others who wanted to try it. Now that my hair is very short, I'm having to find new ways to tie my scarf.
I have always thought these looked gorgeous! But i figured since i was not Muslim it would be disrespectful to try. But you are right, it has started to become a beautiful trend that i would love to dable in, but im still hesitant if it would offend someone who is Muslim, any thoughts?
Victoria Ochoa Not offensive at all!! Muslims arent the only people that do it either. There are some African cultures that wear headscarves for fashion as well. Dont be surprised if you get an Islamic greeting here or there though lol.
This is a great tutorial.....But I would have liked some more information as far as the volume that was created in the back of your head before you did the wrap.....Was that from a real or fake Ponytail and/or Hair Bun?
It looks like a viscose jacquard shawl/scarf. As to what's ideal, cotton is great for the summer time, it has grip but it also breathes and helps keep one cool, whilst shielding your hair from the sun. Silk tends to be slippery. Chiffon is delicate/fragile, but often has grip; it doesn't breathe well and people often use it atop some other fabric to add visual interest.
I got mine from Target. Can't remember how much they cost. I actually bought a few. They were very reasonable priced. You can also get them from Marshalls and T.J.Maxx for about $16 I believe.
Are you using another scarf underneath to protect your hair so it won’t dry out so fast? I do this type of wrap but I tie a silk scarf first;keeps hair my hair from drying out, frizzing and moisturized
Love this, Catrina! :) Thank you so much for the tutorial! Any suggestions if your hair isn't long enough for a decent bun? My 3A curls are just barely shoulder length. (APL when stretched... damn you, shrinkage! :( LOL!) I would love to get the big, thick bun in the back! It looks amazing!
that sucks. when my braids are a month old they give me a migraine if i wear them up cuz it starts pulling to much on my roots. I just got my hair wrapped after watching this. hopefully i dont get a migraine. im prone to them.
I used to do this in highschool i asked a Muslim woman to teach me cause it looked so beautiful 😍 and I've been trying to remember how she thought me and this is the only video i found that shows exactly how she showed me thank you 🙏
Just as a side note, you ladies can also use a wig grip band to prevent it from sliding. Tyfs.
Great tutorial. One of the very few I see that actually show what the wrapping process looks like from behind. A key step for me in learning how to wear head wraps.

mangasdemanoid what part of Africa. Who said it's a Muslim thing lool
It's also a Holy thing. 1 Corinthians 11:5-6!!! Praise God!!
Debra Lester AMENNNN! Yes it is 😇🙏

ABSOLUTELY Sis!!!
I tie the scarf pretty snugly initially. It's a fine line between secure and headache. It takes time to find the balance.
Its almost 3 am and Im up having a ball with this. You made it so easy to learn and I have done it 3 times already... youre a very good instructor, thanks again and again.

Ladies used to wear head scarves all the time it wasn’t a big deal. It’s nice to see it again.
Thank you Catrina. I love headwraps so much.

beautiful! I LOVE rocking my hair wrapped so simplistic and naturally beautiful
Beautiful, I wore my hair wrapped up like that for 5 years after I did my big chop. Great way to maintain growth.

Question? Ever heard about Wrapunzel? They have lots of UA-cam videos. Please check them out.
the wrap tutorial was very informative thank you I learned something about wrapping with a scarf for my dreads
do the wraps have to always be over the ears? is that what keeps it from sliding off?

What a beautiful girl! And the pink color is very much to her face.
I think so. If you add some extra padding (hair) around the bun before you put the wrap on. I also think a smaller bun would look just as nice.
Thank you. I will be practising this for the lo g winter months ahead in the UK
Love the way you explained it
It's so beautiful :) I also love the color of the scarf! 😍
Thank you. I love this scarf. It has become my "in the car just in case I get cold scarf" but I love it nonetheless.
Beautiful! Where do you find the long scarves?

This is a great tutorial.....But I would have liked some more information as far as the volume that was created in the back of your head before you did the wrap.....Was that from a real or fake Ponytail and/or Hair Bun?
giftedsinger13 Hello and thanks for taking the time to comment. That was my real hair in a bun.
What material is your scarf? And which would be ideal? Silk? Cotton? Cashmere? Thanks. Love your do! It"s beautiful and elegant!
+The Grimalkin Satin is what most hair protecting head scarves, sleeping wraps, etc are made out of.
It looks like a viscose jacquard shawl/scarf.
