Sincerely! This is one of the best battles in the Monsterverse, if not the best, for some fans of course, but in the end I just know that the scene in which Kong puts the ax to Godzilla's throat is a beautiful and striking reference to the version of 1962.

Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of the film either (even tho I'm happy that he gets to kill mechagodzilla)
But if there's any comfort in that- in the sequel he knocks Godzilla out with a single punch
