- Episode 8 of Western Walkabout explores the remote and stunning Mitchell Plateau in the far north of the Kimberley. Farther afield is Surveyor's Pool and Port Warrender. We then venture out to the Aboriginal mission of Kalumburu and the breathtaking country around McGowan's beach camp. Packed with spectacular scenery and wildlife, it's definitely one of the best adventures yet!

Just watched this episode again and just wanted to say how brilliant you guys you are at this. I haven't been to the Mitchell Falls for 25 years (and the helicopters were a nuisance back then, too), and its been 19 years since I been up Kalumburu and Honeymoon Bay east of there, but many, many fond memories rushed back because of your brilliant video and narrative.

Greetings there. I'm a reckoning we've got about 220000 k's on the Defender and about 16000 kms from that trip up and back and around. I concur with you on how awesome the Kimberley is and even from a few years ago when I was there the population has increased significantly.

Glad you like the films. If your a nature enthusiast I’d recommend a trip to the Galapagos. Wilms and myself have just finished a 4 night trip that was too short. As for the art work of Australia we’ve always gone for a conservative figure on age as we’d rather underestimate than overestimate.

Greetings there Ern. It was quite a surprise how noisy the place was. It was even a little bit impressive. Considering how remote the place is, people actually get choppered in from cruise ships out on the coast so it's like living next to an international airport. It still is an awesome spot. It sounds to me like you've been there.
Yeah, there in June. True, the Kimberley is still fantastic country.

Great film. We have been there in 2001. For people from a very flat country (Netherlands) where life is totally organized (a bit too much to our taste), that holiday was something to behold. But your film is infinitely better than ours.

Thanks for these wonderful videos, they are a great inspiration for planning my 'dream' trip and I have enjoyed every one of them. May I ask where I can purchase a copy of your what critter is that. On my last trip I mistakenly identified a Sabre Toothed Jack Russell Mouse for what turned out to be apparently a Dunnart. Not long after this I was certain the creature trying to get into my swag was the common Dwarf Fat Arsed Wallaby but again I was contradicted to be informed it was a Rufus Betong but I still remain to be convinced. I would also be interested in a copy of your what plant is that to expand my already comprehensive identification of Big Tree, Small Tree and Dead tree. While we are at it who publishes your handy pocket reference book Precambrian to Cenozoic geology? These have to be the most enjoyable travel videos on You Tube.

As for the critter,plant and rock ID guides I think you might be the man to work on those, throwing around words like Precambrian and Cenozoic puts you ahead as an authority! I would be sceptical of anyone correcting you on the identities of fat arsed wallabies and sabre toothed JR mice. Those seem quite plausible claims to me. Make sure the dream trip happens and keep expectations low. It all gets better from there. Cheers.

Hey there Mark! It's been a while. Against the evidence scrawled on the Centrelink wall the folk at Kalumburu were quite friendly and helpful. I confess to cheating a little on that skit as the sign read F$&@ you so I snuck in some cheeky special effects and changed it to off. Better to fit the story. You know that say. Ever let the truth stand in the way of a good tale.
Well done mate, good to know I won't be told where to go when I get up that way ! LOL.
