I can hold her like a baby I can clip her toenails I can play with her. I can fold her into a little ball. I put her inside my hoodie when she was a kid and I put her inside the hood of my hoodie and just carried around like a little Indian baby but I’m also one of those kind of people that has a gift with animals

it's crazy how conscious that lion is about how careful he needs to be with his human buddy.
I have always watched documentaries about lions and tigers. And they say “that they believe lions can even count”. Lions are very smart! 👑👑👑🦁🦁🦁🦁
@davez8633 their claws have been left intact. If you watch other videos he actually talks about their claws and demonstrates by holding dexters paws and displaying them. Removal of claws is excessively cruel for a myriad of reasons and I couldn't imagine this guy doing anything to hurt these lions.

how did Dean teach his lions to be so gentle and careful with him?
Dexter is chasing Dean and uses his paw to make him trip but simultaneously retracts his claws to make sure the pride's all-father doesn't suffer even a scratch. that is more than respect and love combined. truly amazing

Lion has a high IQ they know when to kill or play
He takes care of them, and he understands lions are not house cats. Lions and other animals are alot more intelligent then people give animals credit.
Its like the "give a dog an egg." Thing people did. The lion could hurt him, but he doesn't *want to* and they know damn well the strength they have over him. The only thing they do that probably is an unconsciously hurt is licking/grooming.

@Generalsausage0101 Circus animals who are purely just trained to just do tricks can , but these lions have been raised , loved and have wholly bonded with this man.
I'm pumped to see everyone pointing out the gentleness but it's even more than that.
His paws go gimp and inept because all those tendons and ligaments that engage the claws go hand in hand with everything else from his wrist down. He also fights the instinct to even open his mouth and takes a hit straight to the chest. Awesome, awesome friend, man.
Its crazy that the lion understands how weak we are as well as understand that they are playing. Look at the lions movements, its so fluent and so easily gets a grip on him and could so easily kill him but chooses not to.
He took care to keep his claws sheathed so as not to hurt you. I can see he was being very careful. He's a sweet, caring guy.
@Alrien J I have my doubts about the dogs to wolves thing, but the really amazing thing about animals knowing to be gentle with humans is the fact that regardless of size, they seemingly understand our skin is tight to our muscle whereas other mammals like felines, canines, basically all except great apes, have loose skin which allows for much rougher play without actually drawing blood.
@Angel Martin They are probably smarter than typical house pets I agree with that, but I don't think that's why they aren't using their claws. Your cat's size is a factor. Your cat can be more rough playing with you without hurting you due to its size. If you've watched animals play you might have noticed that they are always more gentle if they are playing with a smaller animal. If your cat were the size of a lion I think that it would understand instinctively that using its claws would seriously hurt you and it would keep them retracted. Unless it was in a stressful situation where survival instincts take over, then you might be in trouble. As is the case with these lions.
And btw dogs are directly descended from wolves which are absolutely apex predators.
@Concaten yes but my cats often have at least the tip of their claws out to play "get the feet under the covers" and the lion didn't just sheath husband claws, he turned hus paws into silly putty just to be extra careful not to hurt Dean. He tried to grasp with his wrists instead. Lions are smarter than our cats and dogs, as apex predators and truly God's favored creature. So the relationship with them is on another level.

It was Dexter when he was young. Kudos to Dean and his team for their time and dedication raising those lion's.
It's not about what dean taught them.. it's about how much love and trust those lions put on Dean as their Friend

That lion was never going to hurt the person who has been kind to him since the day he was born. Probably fed him milk from a bottle when he was a cub.
The lion sees the guy as his mom and his dad. They've probably been playing like that since the lion was a cub, and the lion sees it as game and not a hunt. It's amazing how genuine kindness to animals over a sustained period of time dampens down there instictual drives

It always amazes me how Dean can sneak up on any member of His Pride or when they play how gentle they are with him. The intensity of playing is no less but they all seem to know to be "gentle" I'm in love with Dean and His Pride, I mean how can you not be!!!

I'm so clumsy that if I was Dean I would have fallen already when Dean climbed on that small cliff but Dean didn't fall even when Dexter jumped on him.
I love how no one mentions how crazy accurate that paw swipe was lol perfectly took out his leg and then predicted the almost perfect jump to catch him mid air if he was a gazelle that would of been a perfect takedown but na he slips off dean and eats dirt lol true lion human companionship right here.
The Lion is highly intelligent and knows the difference between playing and fighting.
