I’ve owned both of them, I liked the Drumbrute more, simply for more sound options... but the Impact sounds a lot better.
If you are just wanting a simple powerful drum machine? I’d go with the impact all day.
But to be honest, I wouldn’t mind owning both of them again, I Love gear and to maybe just have some cool analog DM’s around is always fun.
I run primarily Rolands stuff now and an MPC one, I think having the impact for live shows would be more responsible of me then dragging around more expensive gear? So, I suppose the impact wins. Lol

For anyone that happens to read this comment, I agree entirely with this point. After making this video I ended up selling the original Drumbrute and kept the Impact. The original does have better routing options for sound design through other gear. However, the Impact is more "sound-ready" from the start.
Can't comment on Roland gear since I haven't messed with it.

Just bought an old Drumbrute gecause i love the two Bassdrums and the metallic Hats. Don't see why i would buy the Impact, lacks the character, then i would rather go for a RD8 or RD9 or some Digital Roland. For a fair comparison you should have put the Drumbrute through a little overdrive or just saturation from the mixer.

A fair point, some overdrive would've opened up the kick a bit more to make it comparable to the Impact. However, the idea for the video was to put them back to back at face value with all other things being equal (in hindsight I would've gone as far as to use the same brand of cables.) The original drumbrute definitely has more flexibility to it.

I wish I still had my old Drumbrute. I might buy another one as it's a drum machine that you have to design the individual sounds to your own taste. I think it was twelve outputs on it for fourteen or sixteen sounds. I use vintage Akai MPCs mainly now but I'm proud of my releases with the OG Drumbrute as the best ones play with the top tunes of their genre on radio shows and clubs. I still get a kick out of that, if you pardon the pun lol

I see what people say when they say the Impact sounds better, but... I really just can't say that it piques my interest more than the DB. It just doesn't have the adjustability, and even with color mode (which isn't even adjustable) i'd say it's a dealbreaker for me. I'd get thr Impact if I had bread to spare, but I'd get the DB first.

I’d agree with that. From my experience with both, the impact has more “mix ready” sounds. As you pointed out, the original does have a bit more options on shaping the sound. The one thing I forgot to cover was the original does have one output for each drum sound which allows for more customization. The impact has 4 outs (kick, snare, hi hat, fm drum)

DB is more traditional sounding, DBI has its own one-of-a-kind character, much more aggressive, and has larger and better pads as well, which is better for finger drumming.
