- From the Weaver of Visions album. I have no commercial interest in this song. If you want to own it, purchase it online or in a CD store. The album is fanTAStic, and is called "Weaver Of Visions: The Kate Wolf Anthology"
Buying it will support the perpetuation of great music everywhere, and Kate will be smiling from her quiet grave West of Weaverville in a little place on the Yuba River called Goodyears Bar. It should be deep in snow right now (12/29/12)
I listened to this song when I had the opportunity to actually drive over Pacheco Pass on my way north. Perfect... Kate Wolf painted exquisite pictures of California with her music.
Thanks Kate Wolf, RIP.
SEE YOU...
Without peer and beyond comparison. Kate was more than music. She was a gift.
Someone on this thread laments that there will be no more of this incredible music. In that case, we have only one choice! We must learn these soul-filling songs and sing them for her, carry them forth wherever we can, as best we can, that they will never be forgotten...
Yes, Bob.
Yes , Mr. BOB Cole !
Wonderful !
German applause for America ' s
folksinger Kate Wolf !
May she soar high above us.

Live in Blue Mountains listen to Kate Wolf.....life is good.
Beautiful🎶🎸💗❤

R.I.P. Kate🙏
with all pain here in Syria she still can relaxing my soul no one does like her sad she passed away so early
Her Spirit will live forever. I connect with this song because of all the times I've been up thru the San Joaquin & Pacheco.
I wish there were no events on Syria or anywhere else to cause trouble and sadness to good people. Bless you. And those you love.. and those nobody loves wit peace, safety, and beauty!
@@dayondastribling1396 I had friends who worked in Syria years ago bringing electric lines to small towns for the very first time. They told me the people were all good to them. It's always the same old story: A handful of power crazed madmen ruin it for everyone else.
Search Austin Brown. On UA-cam, his voice, vocal range, and choice of music will be pleasant to you, I think as well.
It certainly is a pattern as old as Creation.
I've only just recently heard of Kate Wolf.....I love her voice and her music. Just so sad that she passed away so young 😥

My sentiments exactly. What a musician and songwriter. RIP
Hi Maxine, like you I have just discovered Kate. Her music reaches deep and touches my soul. I can imagine she would enjoy walking in the mountain valley, with flowers of Columbine and clover dusted through the pine. RIP. your music is transcending .
Боже милостивый, какая же душа и голос у Kate...!!!!🌼🌺🌻
I will forever associate Kate Wolf with the CA I used to love and held so dear. Kate is gone and so is the CA I loved so dear. Love to you both.
There’s still a lot of beauty in this world ;)
No it's not. Northern California is still wild and well, blessed be.
I became a lover of Kate Wolf music about three years ago and regret every day that there can be no more.
Just discovering her and I agree with you.
What a talent.
There are people who left their mark on us all..... I am grateful.
We Love Kate wolf here in IRELAND exceptional singer-songwriter beautiful spirit..All THAT was good about California
You may be interested to know that this song, "Pacheco", was actually written by Scots-Irish musician Robin Williamson of Incredible String Band fame during his stint living in California around 40 years ago.
@@djwragg3
Thanks for that
Tis a small world really .
@@djwragg3 I am blown away by this bit of info! I was a huge ISB fan! Thank you!

Red Tail is my totem spirit and Kate Wolf is my soul sister. I was introduced to her by a girlfriend in my younger years attending Humboldt State University in the mid to late 80's. I had forgotten how much I love Kate and her music until my good friend, Bill sent me a text last week describing his encounter with red tail hawk in San Diego while listening to KW. He sent me a link to "Medicine Wheel" and said he was reminded of me. I listened and said to myself, "Oh yes..." "DAMN! How have I gone THIS LONG without listening in on Kate Wolf???" I, then, went on a Google-a-thon and UA-cam binge of Kate Wolf songs... and finally, I picked up my cedar flute and guitar and it wasn't 15 minutes before I was playing and recording my version of Medicine Wheel. THANK YOU Kate Wolf for your visions and your inspirations. Thanks also to the universe and all of the wonderful souls like Malaya Rider and Bill Murray (not the actor though he's cool too...) who with open hearts and eyes have shared with me their insights and inspired me along my path...
I am thankful for you because the dreams of Love and Peace are cherished by you, the wonder and beauty of northern California long ago inspired both of us during a very special time we both knew which transcends time.
Similar experience in 1989 going from eagle nest New Mexico to red river on my motorcycle. While listening to this song on an old Walkman tape player with earphones I crested the mountain and right in my face was an owl with 8 foot wing span.
So grateful to the wonderful Nanci Griffith for introducing me to Kates music.
Greeting from Ireland.
maighreadt me too, thank you Nanci

I had to incredible good fortune to see Kate Wolf live at a bar in Portland, Oregon called The East Avenue Tavern. Both are gone now and life is bit sadder for it. Kate remains one of my favorite singers/songwriters. Oh to be sitting in that tiny bar again surrounded by friends and listening to one of the worlds best performers
James Reed ...Well color me 50 shades of green with envy!!
Amen. For me the spiritual little Julia Morgan Theatre on College Ave. in Berkeley.
Thanks for sharing !
I had a similar experience in a small coffee house in San Francisco 45 years ago.
I saw her there too. Wonder if it was the same day . . .
These extraordinarily beautiful songs brought tears when I heard them 35 years ago. Now I find them here for the first time since. Thank you for posting.
Isn't it great to hear music from way back in your life? From time to time, this happens to me and it is like am living there again, with beautiful memories.
I fully agree. There is such beauty in Kate’s songs. I can’t stop listening to her. Pure talent.
She was just about the most awesome singer song writer of my time. This song should have been covered by a commercial country artist and turned into a number one hit. What does it lack? Nothing. Great lyric, story line, melody. It has everything to be a top hit, maybe with new instrumentation for the younger set.
Absolutely agree with you. Magical song.
She is a breath of fresh air, an autume breeze, the warm sun on a cold winters day, and a beautiful soul. There are many reasons I love music. She is among the top of my list.
Just superb song, melancholic voice and inspirational musical accompaniment. Thank you Kate up there and everywhere.
2 Songs combined here: Pacheco and Redtail Hawk. Both wonderful. The Video is stunning too. The world has to offer so much amazing sites. Sad that we destroy so much of that beautiful nature. Maybe we are the Virus, ?? not Corona🤔
Worse than that...We are Human Virus...Hard to understand why everything we touch must be destroyed one way or another...
yes, beautiful...it seems to me the destruction is caused by the cancer of corporations.
We certainly behave like a virus - destroying our host
@@daniellucena9694 cynicism will destroy the soul.
We are definitely the virus, sadly.
Beautiful feminin energy, wisdom and artistry (and great backing). We need this music and poetry today, in the era of greed and destruction. Her music will forever live on long after all of the falsehood and profits of materialistic pursuit have vanished into dust.
I fully agree with yu, Nathan!
Nathan , beautiful words . You capture a lot in your brief , but succinct , poignant message . Here’s to Kate , her music and her memory . Peace.

I found Kate Wolf's music just as she was slipping away. Always that sorrow that there's not to be any more has been attached to her music for me. So many short lives that produce great beauty & some essence of our shared humanity too. I'm always looking though, for the wisdom singers. Joanne Rand is one. Joules Graves, another. I remember a Keith Richards quote: Someone asked him who is the greatest rock & roll band. Keith said "It's a different one every night". Kate embodied something precious & fine. She may be gone now, but that thing is still happening. Someone else is doing it now. Find them! They need you to love their music!
Beautiful song . I love her amazing voice.🌹🌹🌹
Where has she been all my life?? What a voice!!!
I have just heard kate and i am in awe of her true talent and her clarity of voice i will remain a fan of her for life i am so sad that she has passed away but her voice and songs anf spirit will nrver die
Highway 152, Gilroy to Los Banos. Spring of 1965. One of those memories brought back by a song.
I've lived here 70 years and this is my go to song. Don't remember when I first heard it but I'll take it with me when I'm gone.
I like the imagery. I grew up in this part of the San Joaquin Valley and have visited these sites, from the upper SJ River to the Pacheco Pass, and her music certainly stirs something in all of us. Even from here in New Mexico I can smell the spring grass in those hills.
We have been for our lives enrichened by what Kate left us,

My GD & I saw a red tailed hawk & I played her this song. She loved it. Still one of my very favorites. 💙🎶😊
I so love California's golden hills. This song is beautiful and so evocative of my home.
I feel at peace listening to her. My regret is knowing her so late, last year 2018 as I tried newies(to me) as I hsd plenty time in hosp. To think I was so in folk music in 69s anx 70s.
I came across this video as I was listening to Eric Anderson's music. I have a family of friends named Pacheco which is why I clicked this song. I am happy I did. Such a beautiful song and incredible talent. I will share her music with my friends. Mesmerizing !
So beautiful. A rare talent, taken young to sing for the angels
When I saw Kate do these two on Austin City Limits I was hooked forever.
I grew up in San Martin and was going over Pacheco from a very young age in the late 1960's. So this song has always meant a lot to me.
I have enjoyed the music she left behind since the mid '80's...I go to her any time I need a bit of reason and sanity....gone too soon....a huge loss...

Her voice and her music was so natural, so unaldultraded., just acouustic instruments, So sad that she died so long ago, could have done so much more

Mein absolutes lieblingslied von kate. Ich bin so traurig das sie so früh von uns gehen musste. Möge ihre seele in frieden ruhen. Send my love to her to heaven.♥️♥️🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Kate is the consummate singer-songwriter. her lead guitarist is so perfect for her transposition from solo artist to companion band member. She brings the notion of a spiritual band with her as she presents her composition. Her repertoire would be considered major no matter how relatively little time she took to establish her creativity. I can picture her at age 80 with a multitude of messages yet to send to us.
Purple clouds turn scarlet in the setting sun
Where sagebrush turns to alive oak
And the white tail run
The air is cool as music
When the day is done
And God paints the sky above Pacheco
Driving all day up the San Joaquin
Turn west again, up through Pacheco Through the blue hills back of Santa Cruz
We're rolling fine
Where red tail hawks go circling
Like the ways of time
And lovers and friends will meet again
'Round red Sonoma wine
And God calls the night above Pacheco

Driving all day up the San Joaquin
Turn west again, up through Pacheco
Late to Kate Wolf and Nina Berber (sadly for me) but the violin on this one is perfect ! Could this too be Nina ! Wouldn’t surprise me !

Meravigliosa KATE ci manchi oggi 2021 sempre di più...
I just adore this song. I have a channel and have covered a few of Kate's songs, this one will be next ! Always hard to do her songs justice though. Thanks for posting.
If you learn this song, you might consider changing the words at 0:20, "white tail" to "mule dear" or "muley" or "black tail." There are no white tail in California. I'll bet Kate would like that change. For Santa Cruz, "black tail" are most likely. I hate myself, cuz from second 23 - that is all I could think about, (Is she talking about Texas or Virginia?) and I missed much of the beauty. I'll bet I've crossed over Pacheco Pass 200 times, and crossing the Santa Cruz hills, was once my commute drive. I love those California wildflower pics! Poppies & lupine?
A Masterpiece😍
Just incredible. What talent
she was truly a weaver of visions
Such soothing voice, beautiful sceneries, congratulation to the photographer!
Best song writer through the times? Thanks for posting.
Back in i965 I used to haul lumber from Northern California to the area around and south of Oakland. To get back over to the Valley I would run Pacheco Pass and run north to Williams and take a truck and trailer load of hay back up to the daries in the Eel River Valley. In 1966 I took a vacation to Vietnam.
The Kate Wolf festival is held for three days every summer in rural northern California. Our tribe. If you go, you'll understand.
Q Kate, Joan Baez, Peter Paul and Mary etc they all sear and yet comfort my soul.
