Dane here. The reason that Greenland doesn't have a Nordic Cross flag was quite deliberate to distinguish that the country has ties to Denmark (hence the red and white colours), but isn't Scandinavian, Nordic or even European (hence the different design)

Greenland's distinction probably arises out of its population being majority Inuit, rather than Nordic. It still maintains the colors of Denmark to represent those ties.

One reason why Estonia's probably never going to adopt the Nordic cross is because its origin actually lies in how Danish King Valdemar II defeated the Estonians in the Battle of Lyndanisse in 1219, the year in which that Danish flag allegedly fell from the sky. The modern Estonian flag is the same one that was raised upon Estonia's first declaration of independence after World War I.

2:15 because Greenlanders aren't Scandinavians like Icelanders, Norwegians etc.; they're Inuit and they were colonised. Having nordic cross in their flag would be like african countries that used to be colonised by UK having Union Jack in their flags.

Ireland wasn’t included in 1604 flag proposals was because Ireland did not become part of the UK until 1801. Prior to that the Kingdom of Ireland shared the same monarch as Britain but had a separate parliament, although de facto control held by the British parliament.
The Irish Flag with an Celtic Knot design down the side of it, a crest with the 1910 province flags, a wreath of clover and a banner of "Erin Go Brágh" under it, seems like a viable concept.
A small correction at 7:30. UK is not made up of 4 kingdoms. Wales never was an official kingdom (yep official, anyways one guy tried to self-proclaim it once), it's a principality. So that's one of the excuses, why it ain't got a representation on the union jack.
Wales was part of the Kingdom of England in 1603. The flag of the Kingdom of England was the St George's Cross. In any case, Wales had no official national flag until the 1950s so there was no question of excluding the Welsh flag in 1604 as there wasn't one.
The reason for so many flags with the British Union Flag in the top left is that they're naval ensigns. Most countries that want to get rid of them don't simply want to change them because the UK flag is on them, but because they're militaristic in design also.

And among all the former colonies of England, they are one of those who are closer to this (after Canada, which has already done this a long time ago). But in the case of Australia, they do not need to announce a competition for a new flag design. Because they have a second official flag: a black stripe from above, red from below and a yellow circle in the middle. This flag was once created by the Australian aborigines as representatives and owners of this land and over the years it was officially recognized by the Australian authorities. And from time to time there is a debate about replacing the current flag of Australia with this flag.
P.S. I can be wrong because I use materials from Wikipedia and at my native language (Ukrainian) material about this flag can be different that in english version Wikipedia
