Railfan Hot Spots: Trains at Richmond, VA and Ashland, VA

This is Part 2 to the Fall 2018 Old Dominion Railfanning series.
All of the catches here were taken after my 8 hour shift at Jefferson Lab on October 19th. Due to the unbeatable weather conditions and cloudless sky, I took it upon myself to venture towards Richmond and Ashland and see what I could get. We check out pretty much the core spots at Fulton, Doswell, and Ashland and get treated to quite the show with CSX and Amtrak trains running back and forth.

Used to love wayching the trains cross the Shockhoe trestle. There is a small engine in Acca yard that has detuned horns. I always call it the apocolypse engine. That horn blasting across the bottom at 530 am was just hair raising 🤣

Been there, done that. However, a peak season trip wouldn't hurt.
