You leveled the truck while you were in it then got out to check the level of course it would then be out of level as you shifted the weight by getting out
I'm not sure I'd want 1 of those if I lived in Canada, not with the notoriously cold winters you get. I had a video come up in my recommendations a few days ago that didn't do much to inspire confidence in the vehicle or the manufacturer. It was on the Now You Know channel, & had the title "Rivian BRICKED | In Depth"
Can we have Alex do an EV 101 at techquickie and explain how all the plug type, charging speed and battery size relationship? felt like he is the only person in LTT can nail this job
If you are in US and own anything other than a Tesla or an old car, it will use CCS. If you live in Europe anything new will use CCS including Tesla. If you live in Japan or have an old Nissan leaf it will be a CHAdeMO. In China will be see GB/T.
Technology Connections has a fantastic video on EV charging including explaining all the different fast charging standards and charging at home, I'd give that a watch
In addition to all the other compliments already mentioned in the comments below I would like to add that the scenery for this hands on was really beautiful and fit the outdoorsy truck theme very well. Well done Alex and the entire production team behind the scenes!
Previous reviews of the R1T have mentioned that the cargo tunnel is really solely designed for long items like fishing rods, long guns, golf clubs, etc. So yeah, don't put anything else in there because it'll flop around away from you. As for the vehicle itself, the R1S I know has the same drivetrain as the R1T, and is basically the take your family around town SUV version of the truck.
@@Gr33nMamba I believe that is also an option, but I wasn't sure in my own memory if that was a thing. for general storage use it is a long item storage.
Yay!!! An Alex car review!!! 18:34 Man, no doubt. I grew up in the rural midwestern United States where a truck was truly a utility vehicle people purchased to beat the hell out of it on the farm or in the woods. I don't understand why cul-du-sac warriors buy massive vehicles at all. I could see a large SUV/van if you're the Brady Bunch, but the vast majority of "city truck" owners never use them as intended.
@@mcslender2965eah cause dealing with massive amounts of computer issues, no third party repair, must have a house or approved apartment complex that your local govt even allowed chargers to be installed, Long charging (everything is slow compared to filling a gas tank), and a stupid key that doesn't even work so you basically have to use your phone sounds great. And it's really ironic you'd even compare "coal rollers" when most trucks I see are gas not diesel on top of the fact this Rivian weighs over 7000 lbs. Nothing about this truck is really that green especially if your just going to lease it and get a new one in 3 years. Then its factually and proven to be worse than just buying a gas car
It's all just marketing and profit. Light trucks like modern pick up trucks and SUVs are easier and cheaper to manufacture (because they're not regulated and don't have to be as safe as normal passenger vehicles) but manufacturers can sell them for a higher price since they're big. Boom, massive profits. On the other hand, modern pick up trucks are so different to actual utility vehicles that they're basically useless for any sane amount of work (wrong bed dimensions, wrong suspension, they can't take a lot of heavy use...) and are ironically less safe than normal passenger cars despite being massive.
@@skiorsnowboard That brief pause after the video starts where the host is making sure they're live before they start talking. Linus talked about it on a WAN show once or twice.
He does a great job in general but has a huge bias against some car companies like Tesla, things he calls Tesla out on (like having to use the touchscreen for climate for instance) he completely gives a pass too for other companies.
And a frunk!! Am I the only person who would gladly trade the frunk, which if you have a truck you aren’t used to having anyways, for having double the battery life? Is there a reason they can’t jam the whole front with batteries so maybe I can tow something more than 50 miles?
@@ryanhamstra49 It may be similar to a rocket (as in the more fuel you have - the heavier it is, so you need more fuel etc) where a frunk packed with batteries would end up weighing a huge amount, negating pretty much all benefits it would bring as the extra weight would lower your range etc. It would also make the vehicle nose-heavy so you'd have to have some sort of counterweight at the back, further reducing range otherwise your handling would be scuppered. There's also the cost as traditionally the biggest expense in any EV is the batteries.
@@AnarchyEngineer yeah, but trucks are used to being nose heavy. I live in a farming area and everyone drives diesel trucks. Those engines can weight over 1000 lbs. I kinda figured it was more of a safety issue…. If you rear end someone your batteries become your crumple zone and leak battery acid all over stuff and start a fire… I’m guessing, I don’t actually know tho
@@ryanhamstra49 The most expensive part of an electric car is the battery... sure they could fit more range into the frunk, but It'd make it front-heavy, less safe due to filling in crumple zones and expensive as fuck.
I've seen many a reviews of the Rivian now, but everytime a new channel does it, I still watch it. The car is just so beautiful and well-engineered. It's a shame their stock is not doing to well. I want this company to keep producing cool vehicles, and not succumb to the silicon valley bubbles and pressures.
I’m not exactly a truck person, but I’ve always been curious about the Rivian. And although this isn’t something exclusive to Rivian, it feels both really fast and really slow how everyone’s been adopting USB-C in cars. Not even my family has fully caught up.
I recently bought a 2021 KIA Forte and it's the first car in my family to come with an included USB-C port. It's unreal how slow the auto sector is to incorporate modern tech in their products. I guess that's the beauty of selling a product that's essential to maintaining access to work in America. We've gutted our public sector to enrich the private sector: and look how well we're doing! 😮💨
Ignore me, made this statement off of invalid information. It's always hard to adopt new standards and how expensive all the retooling and adjusting for the new standard is. It's just like how many auto makers are being (at this point, almost told) asked to change from larger process nodes to the more modern 9nm and 7nm processes. It's just cheaper to keep the same things in production than keeping everything up to date.
@@mcmann7149 No one is manufacturing a 9nm node, and I'm pretty cars don't need 7nm when there are cheaper nodes like 16nm(tsmc) that is still production
USB-C is a thing in European cars for close to a decade by now. I will never get what ppl find appealing with these tanks. Even more nonsenseical when electric.
I agree they look goofy. It's like the truck has tiny little beady eyes like Terrence and Phillip, which might explain why the Canadian doesn't think they look odd. :)
I definitely don't want to rely on using my phone to turn my car on or open it. That's something all electric car manufactures should get right the first time - make your key work.
Considering that these electric trucks don't really need the front, it would be nice to see them slim it down and remove most of it. Trucks have a huge problem with visibility, but they 100% don't need to have this problem with electric trucks.
I really like the style of your reviews Alex, very honest and fair, and it feels like the views from an "everyday driver" perspective and you're answering the questions that normal people would ask particularly around usability, space, and problems you've encountered. If I could, I would buy one based on your review. Top marks, keep up the good work!
I've seen the F-150 frunk and I was impressed. It's nice that it's much more accessible from a lower height. I'd like to see Linus store is LTT backpack in that frunk.
I couldn't agree more about the city trucks thing. It's the same in my area. Jeeps as well. I see so many Jeeps that you know never touch anything but tarmac.
we have several rivians around omaha now. one works near my house, and the guy drives it in all conditions. they do look good on the highway, and theyre so quiet when compared to anything else with a cargo bed. im a fan.
You have got to get your hands on the Ford F150 lightning. If you like how the R1T drive then you're probably going to like how the Lightning drives because the Rivian R1T/S were prototyped and built off of the F150 chassis originally. I think that the lightning after an over the air update can now do sub 4 second 0 to 60. We're looking forward to your review of that truck!
Its a truck that has no towing capacity, or hauling capacity, and the range drastically drops when loaded up (same problem the F150 Lightning or EV Transit has). And like all other EVs it suffers the same battery problems in cold weather. As for air suspension, its great, when the bags or compressor don't break. Air ride has been around for a very long time and you'd think something newer would be implemented. Like all new vehicles, I never recommend jumping in. Wait a couple years and let others be the beta testers. And lastly a problem EVs that will have to be addressed is some sort road road usage tax. As in the States the gas tax is what usually goes towards road maintenance.
Thank you Alex for voicing a sentiment about trucks I also have (near the end of the video). I live near Toronto and so many people seem to just use a truck around here as either a status symbol (look how big mine is!) and/or basically... IDK... an SUV/minivan. Which also makes it a PITA when you're driving because you can't see past this oversized vehicle that someone wants just to show off. Yes, *some* of them are actually being used as work vehicles, but in the suburbs? People quite often buy them because they can, and it's big and shiny.
If you haul large and heavy things around most days, get a truck and use it like a truck. But if you're a normal person, living in a fairly large city who needs a car for getting around.. It should be almost illegal to have large, vasteful cars. Japan has the right idea for city cars. I love a big powerful V8 as much as the next guy. But I fix computers. Even if I were to carry a ton of "good to have" things, I could do that in a 80's Civic.
@@Breeze926 Yeah basically. And then people complain about how much it costs to fill the thing. If you're using it for work, it's a completely different story. If you're using it to run the occasional errand like grocery shopping or picking up the kids or whatever.. why do you have a pickup truck instead of a car or SUV/minivan or something else?
I live about 30mins from where these are built, so exciting to see them on your channel! Glad you like them I see them almost every day around here. Hopefully one day they’ll have more affordable models.
If you didn’t say anything, I would have. These videos are so well done, but there are a lot of fact corrections. Weight, horsepower, battery capacities.
@@KaizagadeI didn’t mean to come off as rude. I used to sell cars, and I know how hard it is to recall all the specs while trying to perform. That being said, these guys are all fantastic!
Eyyy, I'm an R1T owner here in Seattle. Nice to see LTT looking at it. As a correction there is an optional spare. I bought one directly from Rivian. It isn't common to get because of the built in air compressor. Get a flat? Pump up your tired to get to a tire shop.
Now this is the type of "light" truck that can run over a ton of children and likely end your own life in small crashes due to the stiff truck frame! Highly recommend watching Not Just Bikes' video on these types of vehicles.
yeah, hopefully the price will keep it out of most people's suburban driveways (we both know that ain't happening but a guy can dream). This thing is way overbuilt for an individual or a soccer mom. That being said, it's a decent option for north american actual rural areas truck--work if they can charge it. I can see a hydro quebec team using this to go fix a pylon in the north regions or something like that.
The limiting factor off road will be tire size lol guy with the Pajero or xj has 35-40 inch tires whilst the rivan comes with an optional for a 33" and it drops the range a bunch. Pretty hard to do a scrapyard lift on this truck whilst a pretty impressive 4 link on say an xj is obtainable in any garage with a welder, some scrap and some pipe.
I'mcurious about the charging port in the winter time. Around here, cars will freeze over from time to time and I'd be interested to see how it handles that
Rivian owner here, in the PNW. Having had it since Oct. '22, It took the winter pretty well. Didn't freeze over the charging port too badly, and if it did, a little coercing made it open. The only problematic thing was when we left it charging overnight, and when returning in the morning, the water from the night had frozen on/into the weatherstripping on the truck in the charging port door, which took a bit of scraping with a flathead screwdriver to get the door to close properly. Other than that, never had issues with the charge door or flush door handles for that matter during the winter.
@@XeLegend they should really put in a small resistive heater to melt the ice, my last Subaru would freeze around the gas cap so bad I had to keep a flathead screwdriver in the car to pick it off so I could put gas in my car
Another R1T owner here to chime in. I live in the Twin Cities where we get plenty of below 0 days and had no issues with the door handles or charge port door
I just bought a Zero Motorcycles model DSR/X electric motorcycle. EVs are cool. Zero is a California company, been around for 15 years now. The electric motor does make a little whine, but it's very quiet and gets covered up by the wind noise at road speeds. Loved this review. The R1T looks fun.
There is one large difference between the F150 and this Rivian trunk. With the Rivian you have to lift up your luggage quite far (over waist), while the F150 has the trunk edge below the hips.
I don't know if you mentioned but they removed the power outlet and the front trunk. Some of the wood pieces are now plastic. If you get one without the auto tonneau cover, they're not going to retrofit one later if they fix it, so you'll never have it. And they're getting rid of the meridian audio system and supplying their own in-house found parts.
Yeah, the removal of the 12V in the frunk has me rethinking my deposit. I have a 12V refrigerator that I currently have to keep in the rear passenger seat of my SUV on long trips to hold insulin (plus whatever leftovers I accumulate). The plan was to move that to the frunk and actually regain the rear seat for my daughter and dog. I test drove the R1S and liked it, but really need to be able to load motorcycles in the bed to help with the range hit of going to an EV (instead of towing) I honestly don't mind the trim, but removing functionality of this makes no sense to me. I am sure there is a cost savings somewhere. If I decide to go through with the purchase, then I will likely retrofit the 12V frunk plug. I would much rather have them lose the stupid bluetooth speaker/latern that is likely never going to get touched on 90% of the trucks out there and actually costs something to manufacture.
@@randomizednamme Sadly, it will not fit in the gear tunnel. It probably will end up in the rear seat with the cord running into the gear tunnel until I can look at retrofitting the frunk. Not sure why they took the one on the dash out instead of the gear console. I would think the one under the dash would be used most.
Alex, I've been waiting to see this review from you and the Short Circuit team FOREVER. I purchased my R1T in late June 2022 and knew that Rivian was going to be a hit with you and anyone else at LMG. Excellent review!
This is a great truck: 1. Downsides for people doing "heavy trucking" which is code for "only people who actually use the truck as a truck" 2. If you want to go off road a 30 yo all-terrain vehicle (actually made for going off road) for a fraction of the price will give you more fun 3. In 5 years you probably will loose some basic functionality 4. In car reviews they used to have a section dedicated to the car's safety features. I wonder why this truck reviews don't? I'm sure it's not because trucks are less safe then cars, and don't even require the same safety standards as cars. 5. Whenever Alex mentions something the R1T is bad at, he'll then remind us that it's a truck, and for a truck that's not actually that bad. Most of truck drivers would fit everything they need in a car from a compact to a station wagon, and those cars would be better at the tasks you use them for. This means you're buying a truck that you don't use as a truck, and that's worse at being a car, but it's ok that it's worse because it's a truck, even if there's no reason you'd need a truck. 6. It's an EV, so it's sooo green, and enviromentally friendly. Let's just totally ignore the aspect of sustainability in the review. Let's just scrap that section just like the section on safety.
I honestly am not a guy who has ever liked trucks but this is one truck that I genuinely love and hope it could be my future 1st (if i am luck) or more likely 2nd/3rd vehicle that I would own. 😍 very beautiful truck. andny 🤣 " I know something we can say" my fave segue so far 🥰️
I want to see a Rivian R1T truck do major off-roading stuff like how a modified Jeep SUV would go. I bet with the proper tires, the torque from the electric motors would help it climb anything with ease.
@@well_as_an_expert_id_say then thats the issue, you have bigger tires that require more torque for a gear system that may not be designed for it. people brake axels all the time doing this. but tires like that would also kill range from the increase road resistance.
I want to build a dual 10 Inch subwoofer box for that gear tunnel. And have the bandpass port directly where the center of the rear seats armrest open up. Wonder how this will sound.
@@aaronb9630 I'd just hook the amps up to a separate battery system. If you're setting up the subs, it wouldn't be that much more of a hassle to put in a standard 12 volt battery for the amps somewhere. And make the subs easy to turn on and off and then different EQ settings. Obviously.
Such an amazing review. I especially love how you actually put in the work and cover the details that most news outlets and reviewers just gloss over or don't go into at all
would be better if the bed extended there, maybe then you could actually fit some basic plywood on the bed without it sticking out. Would be cool if it extended also under the back seats
It's probably larger than significant number of garages in Europe, and definitely wider than some of the streets. Also it would also require a cargo truck driver's license where I live, as total possible weight of the car under regular license can't exceed 3500 kg xD
That's the unfortunate reality of modern American cars - trucks marketed as passenger vehicles. It makes no real sense, it only makes money for the manufacturers.
@@TheGrejp The modern trucks are bonkers in size sometimes. There’s still standard sized pickups and even smaller ones the only problem is it’s getting harder/impossible to get 6+ foot sized beds in smaller trucks. The Rivian is just a full size pickup, not big at all for North American roads.
Man, I am a bit conflicted about this subject. On the one hand, cool tech so absolutely belongs in this channel in that regard. On the other hand, most people who buy a truck like this, really don't need a truck like this. Which wouldn't really be an issue if not for the fact that these big cars are making roads less safe, consume more resources (both electricity and the amount of battery needed), etc. To be clear, the Rivian isn't as big as the Ford one so it is somewhat more reasonable.
I've wanted an R1T since Marques did a review -- seems great. Headlights are a little weird, but in a fun way. IIRC, there's an option for a slide-out tray for the gear tunnel -- that way you don't have to crawl in, lol. I also don't recall him having the key issue like you did... maybe it liked him better?
Regarding the lack of Android Auto, I'm reminded of the criticism my older Mazda 3 got regarding the lack of a USB port for accessing music from an iPod/Phone. Yes, right now it might feel like a negative, but knowing Google's habit of graveyarding things, I'm not sure I'd put any more trust in the long-term availability of Android Auto than I would in Rivian's own software support.
Great reviews! Keep it up. For me I see too many things that are electronic that could be mechanical & will suck when they break. It's a truck of party tricks. I guess my problem is I'm think of a truck from a work perspective & this is just not that kind of truck. This is a luxury truck not a work truck. Really wanna see a Ford lightning review. See the pluses & minuses between electric trucks now that we have some. Cool stuff.
Unfortunately no modern pick up truck is a real utility vehicle. They're just terrible, heavy, oversized, unsafe, swollen passenger cars. Which is awful for everyone and everything - for people who actually need a utility vehicle, for the roads and cities, for pedestrians, for their own owners (both in terms of safety and fuel consumption)... For that kind of vehicle, the Rivian is pretty good, but it's not a good type of vehicle in and of itself. I'd like to see Rivian make a smaller car better suited for cities.
@@TheGrejp you guys do know modern pickups have different SKUs right? the same RAm has a 6 wheeled utilitarian only skew with an uber expensive LARAMIE luxury version
Puh. A 100k truck that cost them 250+k to manufacturer better be reeeeaaally good, if you risk buying it while the company might not exist much longer to service it.
I don't know if this is accurate but I heard that 250K number included alot of the upfront costs. Like RND costs. Basically they just subtracted the money earned from the money spent and divided it by how many trucks produced. Giving you that number. But that doesn't really tell us the actual cost in raw materials and man power per truck. It is like spending 30 billion on a car factory and producing a 30 cars from the factory. You could say each car costs 1 billion to make. It makes a good headline but doesn't accurately tell you how much each car costs to make. Because the next 30 cars produced will bring all car costs down to $500 million. But all of that said they are not profitable but I don't think it is as bad as loosing 100K per vehicle.
@@Catsrules1 Generally false. This number does NOT include R&D and other operational expenses (HR, Admin, IT, ..) - it's pure Gross loss = revenue minus cost of revenue (663M - 1,663M). Their opex losses in the last published quarter were an additional 795 Million dollars. (Which is also crazy high for a company of their size. They delivered 8054 vehicles that quarter - so some might say that would be an *additional 100k* of company wide cost per truck but _that_ would be contrary to your point.) But to your point: cost of revenue is indeed not just materials and labor. It also includes depreciation (but NOT like your 30B example which would be depreciated over just a single quarter) on buildings and machines. Which naturally reduces (per good sold) once you ramp production. But their huge losses there is why normal companies ( that don't get a Bezos or SPAC cash injection) start small..
I wish they'd make an actual car. Trucks might work in North America, where traffic rarely is mixed (or at all), but in Europe, it's a huge issue. Look at how tall the bonnet is. Hitting a pedestrian or cyclist with that, and they're dead. Perhaps it's fine on stroads such as in North America, but in Europe where traffic is mostly mixed in towns, a truck is just silly. Now this brand has limited themselves to exclude Europe other than a niche (and a lot of the niche is covered by vans here). Especially here we could use another 'keep the germans on their toes'-brand. It's very ironic that the best German EV at the moment carries a Ford branding. Also, let's talk the elephant in the room: this thing probably has a kWh/100km that's way further than even most crossovers. Even though electricity has the advantage of no exhaust, and more efficiency than petrol, heck, even more hetrogenous charging: it still uses a lot of power. I really wish they'd have gone and made an electric V70, a hatchback, estate, or just: a saloon. Using a truck to go to/from work is just... silly!
@@jc74435 those have been standardised even to 2m30. Many cities are limiting or banning cars even these days, opting for free parking garages/areas outside of towns, or working with 'rough routes' or 'it's all open just very expensive' by nature. Pre-2004 (I think) parking spaces even were at most 2m15 but some side airbag stuff caused them to be like: yeah, let's widen it up. Honestly some older cities like The Hague even my Ioniq5 which is TINY compared to this beast sticks out of the space, can't open it's trunk, or on return another wide car (after all, I do park at charging spaces) is sitting next to me forcing me to either do the 'car remote'-thingy or make use of the "EV no center tunnel" thing and truffle-shuffle my arse in from the passenger seat. I swear, a truck basically is forced to double park, which for an EV is considered a very very d*ckish move considering they typically also are charging spaces.
Funny enough, with it's weight being about 3150kg empty, most people won't have the correct license to drive one of those in Europe anyways, unless Rivian let's their trucks being registered with 250kg of loading capacity which wouldn't even be 4 people.
So let me get this straight... It gets a pass on various issues because "it's a truck lol" but when it comes to actually doing truck things, you're saying to go buy an actual truck? So, why the hell would I buy this thing? If it's for status, as you lament at the end of the video, then any premium trim level from any "real" truck manufacturer will do the job. At that, with arguably less investment and without the inherent issues that come with the current iteration of electric vehicles. Hard pass.
Wow, this pedestrian-killing machine, used for grocery shopping, is needlessly large and clogs up cities. Furthermore, it is powered by batteries that are heavier than the average European car. Stop this idiotic trend!
Alex, you know we love you! Excellent review and it was fun to see how much you enjoyed the R1T. I listen to your reviews a lot, without necessarily watching the screen. Would y’all consider correcting technical details like the trucks weight with audio instead of a visual asterisk? It would make a big difference to me, perhaps others.
Along the lines of the pop out BT speaker, they forgot to mention the pop out flashlights hidden in the doors. (Gimmicky, but still a nice add) I'd never afford one, but if I went electric today, it'd be the R1T.
You said that on asphalt you dont want any sliding because it's just slower. Counterpoints: slip angle and threshold braking. Slip angle essentially is your rear tires sliding out around the corner a very small amount, somewhere around 1-5 degrees i think, in order to optimize turning and go faster through the corner. Threshold braking is where you hold the brakes on the cusp of locking up in order to get the maximum braking done. When threshold braking. The tires are actually spinning slower than the distance they are traveling, sort of like skidding but still rotating, getting optimal bite while not locking completely. Both of these is the car sliding, going just over the edge of grip, where its actually faster, but not so far over the edge as to actually slow you down. Think of it as standing at a cliff. You can stand at the edge and be fine. You can lean over the edge to get a better view and still be fine, but you have to be careful because if you lean to far, you fall. Slip angle and threshold braking are the leaning over the edge. They can can be and are faster, but only when done well and you have to be careful to no push to far or you fall off the cliff and glow slower.

It doesn't matter we're all going to be done soon with climate change
It's all just marketing and profit. Light trucks like modern pick up trucks and SUVs are easier and cheaper to manufacture (because they're not regulated and don't have to be as safe as normal passenger vehicles) but manufacturers can sell them for a higher price since they're big. Boom, massive profits.
On the other hand, modern pick up trucks are so different to actual utility vehicles that they're basically useless for any sane amount of work (wrong bed dimensions, wrong suspension, they can't take a lot of heavy use...) and are ironically less safe than normal passenger cars despite being massive.
@@mcslender2965 gotta own the libs
Nice it has a type-C port at the back so you can just charge the truck with that. Infinite range.

A lot of USB ports, but no spare tire. Classic 2023 insane design
There's also the cost as traditionally the biggest expense in any EV is the batteries.
to be fair it does have a built in air pump, so that should be enough in most scenarios to get you by before getting to a tire repair shop.
The way they did their tech is such a shame. This vehicle will be EOL in 5 years which is not what you want on something this expensive.
I would like Rivian to survive, but I don't think it can be said it's well engineered when it's costing double to produce than what it sells for.
@@danomitepoop yep someone finally said it, the things are impressive because they lose money.

Not sub 3 seconds, maybe sub 4 seconds for the Ford Lightning with the update. While fast by most standards, still not nearly as fast as the Rivian.
@@mattbrown7753 sorry, mistyped. Meant 4. Thanks for catching that! I've edited my og comment.
Even if I were to carry a ton of "good to have" things, I could do that in a 80's Civic.

yeah, hopefully the price will keep it out of most people's suburban driveways (we both know that ain't happening but a guy can dream).

Will Labs evaluate the bluetooth speaker, and I guess generally more importantly, the audio systems of reviewed cars?
Yay! Was looking forward to Alex's review of the R1T! Well done and great car insight's as always! Truly one of my favorite EV's at the moment.
I test drove the R1S and liked it, but really need to be able to load motorcycles in the bed to help with the range hit of going to an EV (instead of towing)
I honestly don't mind the trim, but removing functionality of this makes no sense to me.
@@jcl3jthere is a 12V in the gear tunnel so if the fridge fits there that could work still
@@randomizednamme Sadly, it will not fit in the gear tunnel. It probably will end up in the rear seat with the cord running into the gear tunnel until I can look at retrofitting the frunk. Stunning Rivian! I’m looking forward to get my R1T soon!! ❤
this title has a lot of meme energy in it
This is a great truck:
1. Downsides for people doing "heavy trucking" which is code for "only people who actually use the truck as a truck"
2. If you want to go off road a 30 yo all-terrain vehicle (actually made for going off road) for a fraction of the price will give you more fun
3. In 5 years you probably will loose some basic functionality
Gear tunnel perfect for a set of golf clubs
I want to see a Rivian R1T truck do major off-roading stuff like how a modified Jeep SUV would go. I bet with the proper tires, the torque from the electric motors would help it climb anything with ease.
JerryRigEverything has some good footage off roading with the R1t
problem is that its 7,000lbs body will be a death sentence in the snow or mud, you also have to be careful in not tearing the tires.
@@odisy64 people can overland semi trucks, with a wide enough tread you can wade over any sand

I'm curious how an electric vehicle would respond with adding amplifiers in general. What kind of milage will I lose from my listening habits.

I especially love how you actually put in the work and cover the details that most news outlets and reviewers just gloss over or don't go into at all
The gear tunnel is awesome for stuff like hockey sticks, camp poles, untreated 2x4 etc
would be better if the bed extended there, maybe then you could actually fit some basic plywood on the bed without it sticking out.
This review is pretty darn good.

I got mine last week in Vancouver, it’s absolutely the best car and truck I’ve ever driven

There is never a real reason to get a truck like this for a real truck owner when you need truck things.
I liked how Alex gave the Canadian horse power numbers, and the editor had to on screen the real number.
They delivered 8054 vehicles that quarter - so some might say that would be an *additional 100k* of company wide cost per truck but _that_ would be contrary to your point.)
But to your point: cost of revenue is indeed not just materials and labor.
With one motor per wheel you can do perfect torque vectoring. That is how they can make it corner so well for its weight.
Using a truck to go to/from work is just... silly!
Unless you are in a very rural area, driving a truck in Europe is very challenging. Even the parking spaces are small
I work at Rivian and not only is the truck and the suv but the company is a great place to work
I just got hired in, I'm excited. My position would be in the durability tester

coincidence ? i think not
I programmed the manufacturing line that built the motors for the R1T and got to drive one for a while, it’s an incredibly nice truck!
Leveling the car is a great feature for camping. That can be a real pain when going to remote spots.
"And also we have, a very loud Miata. Hell yeah!"
I like the way this man thinks
So let me get this straight... It gets a pass on various issues because "it's a truck lol" but when it comes to actually doing truck things, you're saying to go buy an actual truck? So, why the hell would I buy this thing? If it's for status, as you lament at the end of the video, then any premium trim level from any "real" truck manufacturer will do the job. At that, with arguably less investment and without the inherent issues that come with the current iteration of electric vehicles. Hard pass.
Using a phone to unlock and lock is the dumbest thing ever. It's basically a giant key
"A very loud Miata" :O That's a Supra bro!
It would make a big difference to me, perhaps others.
gotta love gadgetification of what is essentially a tool to the point of the utility of it all being baisically on a back burner
It was a treat to see how enthusiastic you were while reviewing the Rivian.
