- Just before midnight on June 17, 2023, Tulsa Oklahoma was impacted by a QLCS bowing storm feature with extreme 90-100+ mph wind gusts. Damage across the Tulsa metro area was widespread with massive tree and power line damage along with some roof and structure damage.
This video was filmed at 31st and Lewis in midtown Tulsa. All of the blue/green colored flashes are power lines/transformers arching.

It was a scary storm. I saw idk how many power flashes and when the storm came through, my house sounded like it was rumbling at one point. Won’t ever forget this storm.
Judging from the video, I counted about almost 30, but the only problem I have is I couldn't tell between the lightning or power lines flashes.
It was wild. I'll never forget it
Definitely a storm I won’t forget! Hopefully not a repeat for awhile. Tulsa will be cleaning this one up for a long time.
@@soonerstormsthe way that wind sounded, Wondered if a tornado was coming
yeah i live in a trailer/mobile home, and i honestly thought that it was gonna tip over due to how extreme the wind was
In Tulsa, Ok it's an "Extreme Wind Event" - where I live, it's last Tuesday.
In December thru February winds can be expected to exceed 90 - 105 MPH at least ten times up here. IT IS AMAZING !
The people, the buildings, the trees, and the electric company are on alert but take it in stride.
Whoa! Where do you live! That sounds wild!
That sounds like an anarchy server in earth. Holy shit tornado alley is scary
Alaska?
Please tell us where you live. Almost sounds like the North Pole 😯
Omg 😲 oklahoma! That sounds like a tornado 🌪 but straight line winds are scary. Went through my first one last June in Ohio. We had 94 mph winds.. ugh won't forget that
Awesome video. Thank you for sharing this with us. God Bless you and yours. Please stay safe.
Thanks for watching and commenting! Same to you!
I slept through it. No reason to get out of bed since there’s not much you can do while it’s happening! Our area had significant tree, fence and homes damaged, but all my neighbors came through it. Everyone was out later Sunday into Monday helping clear the streets and helping each other out.
As bad as this was, it could have been even WORSE, believe it or not! Back in August 10, 2020, a derecho DEVASTATED the state of Iowa; and it hit Cedar Rapids with 140 mph winds! It ended up being the most expensive thunderstorm in U.S. history, when it causes some $11 billion worth of damage!
Hopefully we don’t get anything like that Iowa storm anytime soon. That was one for the record books!
This wasn’t even a derecho. I don’t think officially. I can’t find anywhere from the nws that calls it a derecho. Sometime after this a derecho went through Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana. Consistent large swath of 60mph+ wind along all three states. Recorded gusts of 90mph. Nothing can compare to a proper massive derecho.
@13_cmi actually it was. I just looked it up. 140mph winds and $12 billion in damage. There's several videos on UA-cam.

@@lilbit2870Yep. That Derecho was the most expensive thunderstorm in U.S. history.
Its not often you see that much lightning without a tornado behind it.
Sometimes it’s just severe lightning and wind with hardly any real rain besides some heavy downpours in some areas.
Some of that is power flashes I saw so many power flashes that night from my 2nd floor window
Sounds like you've never been to Florida or Oregon.
That's incorrect. I lived in Orlando for a year. But I have watched a lot of storm / tornado chase videos and its only in tornado video s where I have seen a nearly continuous stream of lightning go on for minutes at a time. @@Kpoole35
Awesome video, thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks for watching!
That siren sounded creepy. That's what high winds do to sound.
Yeah the sound of the wind with this one is something I won’t forget.
Rare for tulsa, the last time Tulsa saw high level winds like this was in 2016 July another derecho, occurred in the early afternoon, other parts of the state get hit well over 2 or 3 times + a year with these type storms, the northeastern quadrant of the state escaped alot this year up until now
I remember that July 2016 event when i was a kid. We lost power for three days but for this recent derecho we didnt lose power at all oddly enough
@@neonflashsparkotron5435 very similar in 2016, amazingly our house did not loose power in either storms luckily
I recall one that hit in June of 1992. It was in Okmulgee. I am not sure if Tulsa got it too. I just know I turned on the TV and they were discussing it, just before it hit us. On a different topic, regarding your name, is that from the band White Lion, or something else? (If I may ask.)
@@PreciousFifiI do remember back in the early nineties during the summers of 1992-1995 the tulsa area did get hit during the afternoon hours with powerful squall lines, something we dont get as often as compared to to the 80's and 90's, there's been a pattern change in the weather these last few decades I've noticed and, yeah I got the name from the band White Lion, I love the name, BTW I recently saw some slot machine games named White Lion up in Washington state, that surprised me
The 90’s were a rough time for wind and Tulsa. 3 major events from 1992 to 1998!
I witnessed a derecho like this. It was straight out of a movie.
Thanks for sharing
Excellent footage!
Thanks for watching!
2020 utah windstorm had same winds
That was such a wild event!
Great video bro damn!! Subscribed 👍!!
Thanks for the comment and sub!
What a fierce battle!
i remember walking out of my home just before the storm hit... and the air was literally still. not a sound was happening. before 10mins of impact .
Same. The Sirens were going and I stepped outside to see if there was a Tornado or something, heard it was just a nasty Derecho. We still hunkered down in the downstairs bathroom and laundry room. Watching the flashes from the laundry room from the kitchen window was insane. I've only been in Oklahoma for a year lol last high winds I dealt with was in Phoenix and some times we got Microbursts
That is brutal. Badass weather video. That big tree is getting punished.
Nasty storm ! 😮
This was one of the best videos of this squall line / the amount of rain that fell was impressive too, my neighbor measured almost 2 inches of rain in less than an hour, and had water in the garage /Tulsa, which is part of the southern United States does get a lot of rain and storms
Thanks! I remember driving thru standing water in some spots after it moved thru but never looked to see how much actually fell!
Wicked storm!
As someone from the UK it's really mesmerizing watching this as we never get anything like this, certainly in the east. Scary but also peaceful in an odd way. I also find it crazy in the US, how there's so many overhead powerlines in such storm prone locations such as this
What a strange storm, like a horror film background.
In Louisiana we call this type of weather Hurricane Weather
Amazing footage! This storm was crazy! I even recorded it and posted it on my channel. I walked back to the hotel when I saw those power flashes and then me and my Dad ran back into the hotel room when those strong winds hit. LOL! It was definitely one of the craziest storms I ever witnessed, alongside the March 30, 2016 Owasso Tornado.
Yeah it was def one of the craziest wind event I’ve seen! I’ll have to check out your video. I actually chased the Owasso tornado too. If you get bored I have a video on my channel from that day! Def a wild chase.
One guy driving around with a radar registered 128 mph. I don't know if he was a storm chaser or what but showed it hitting that speed. Around downtown Tulsa and heading south. It was definitely scary. Live in Sand Springs.
Wind EVENT??? How do I get tickets!?!?
We had a tornado today and it was like crazy. There’s like 80 miles an hour winds is I don’t know if there was a miles an hour winds I think it was but the damage were really crazy. I have the biggest tree and it did not break at all it’s green with green leaves. It’s very nice but our pantry fell and it broke so thank goodness my big tree did not break.
I've been in 4 of these in my 40+years, they're always quite scary.
My first thought was what are you doing so close to those power lines??😅 I've lived through one of these plus numerous damaging downshafts. I love wind, as long as nobody gets hurt or has bad property damage. The sound is so wild and free. Never been in a tornado though, and hope to never experience one. ✌️❤️
Wow! Its like a scene from a nightmare
It's terrifiant 😱😱😱😱😱
Scary n powerful winds
Tornado warning set in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the 100 mile per hour winds and packing with the strain of tornadoes 🌪️ and warnings set sirens go under the basement and do not go inside mobile homes when the twisters hit with packing straight line winds over 100 mph. Tornado warnings were heard over the city of Tulsa when the tornadoes 🌪️ touching the ground and it is very dangerous to be in the weather like that. I lived in Arizona for a while with the monsoons are different with those storms in the desert southwest.
How is this not a hurricane? Seems the same to me. Hope you got home safe.
Hurricanes spin and form over water, not land.
basically this was a 40mile wide f1 tornado to put it in a different perspective
not tropically formed over the Gulf or Atlantic. Hurricanes weaken the further they get over land. For example, I live in Orlando. When Ian struck Ft Myers it was 150 mph winds, but the time it got to Orlando the winds were 60-70 mph at most. I never even lost power but I did see power flashes and heard transformers blow. This storm was either a Derecho, super cell or a microburst. Microbursts come with no warning and are isolated areas, and it seemed like people knew about this ahead of time.
@@MCO2ATL2DTWby777 It was a derecho
Hurricane Force Winds Intense
Where is that place in that place you are at
I got a time lapse but it was dark and not super well exposed so it kinda sucked. I’ve gotten plenty of pretty shelf clouds these past couple months. Sometimes staying up until 4am. It feels like one happens every day. One even happened this morning and went all the way to Tennessee. The year of the derecho I guess.
It’s been a crazy active summer for wind events for sure! The one that came thru on Friday morning (not a major event wind wise) had a beautiful shelf but it was just a bit too dark for me to get any good shots. I have a feeling we will get some more wind later in august once we shift back to nw flow again.
Was this a derecho or tornado?
Derecho
Derecho, but it did (from what I heard) Set down an F1 NE of Tulsa.
Top speed on radar I saw was on the West side at 133.6 mph
I highly doubt that was near ground level
I was wondering what the peak radar wind speed was. It weakened just a bit as it came into Tulsa fortunately. Those winds on the west side looked intense on radar!
this gives people in the Central Plains and idea what a Florida hurricane looks like... now try dealing with that for several hours. Looks like someone has a generator at least. Saw everyone lose power except for one house.
Exactly! I’ve never experienced a hurricane but it’s on my bucket list.
And yeah that’s a fairly expensive part of Tulsa so I assumed a generator as well.
This is really scary
is that a 🌪
No, derecho
What's what everyone living in oklahoma? That does look bad, though.
😮
Somewhere or there, you know at least 1 nicotine addict smoked outside because he wasn't allowed to smoke indoors.
This is why Im glad I dont live in Oklahoma. Its a miracle people are able to live there at all for longer thsn 5 minutes.
i live on mingo
Did you have any damage?
The atmosphere scouring out Trumpism. Great video.
Tulsa is rather liberal compared to outside counties. This is a callous and ignorant statement.
Weather Warfare, Weather Weapons being used in America.
But this wild weather is happening all over the world, though.
THE EARTH IS TILTED AND WOBBLING,the wobbling is the problem, cold front after cold front hitting normal hot weather you get this and much more, there will be more, kansas weather is right in the middle,we've had one weird winter and the summer is just nuts, now we are experiencing drought and the nation will pay for it with damn little food, its the end times,to escape,ROMAN'S 10-9 get ready to meet the boss,he'll be here soon, and will judge the earth and all that's in it,little time remains, its global and nothing will stop his wrath, nothing, even don j trump knows this
This was NOT 90-100 MPH winds. More like 45-55 MPH. Dont make shit up.
The weather channels said it was. Had a phone warning to take cover 100 mph winds.
45-55 mph winds don’t cause over 200k to lose power.
clearly havent been in a storm that had top winds of 80-100 MPH
This was absolute ass to live through.
We had a tornado today and it was like crazy. There’s like 80 miles an hour winds is I don’t know if there was a miles an hour winds I think it was but the damage were really crazy.
