I have the UT89XD model and it's so nice to use. The Led function is a differential.

I believe I found my multimeter! I prefer this over the XD version since I want the Live and Temp features and do not care that much about the LED one (still has a Diode mode so). Also I prefer this over the Winapex I was asking in the other video. The UT89X/XD include a bit more (HFE, 20A, etc) for a little few bucks more minus the auto range which is nice, but doesn't bother me that much after all. Thanks so much for putting together those videos :)

Ive had the other version of this meter, the UT89XD for same time now and have to say its one of the most useful meters I know of with its special diode and LED range as well as its visual alerts and visual cap range function. You wont find a better deal for the money if youre doing circuit work that lets the special features of this meter shine.
Definitely a keeper..it's one of the best UNI-T Multimeters in their lineup!
Also saw some capable looking jack sleeve support posts on the back side of the case, should hold the sleeves in place with no problem.
Yes those sleeves are well supported definitely no worries about long term support for the input jacks.

This looks like a nice clean multimeter. I see some open slots for MOVs (SG1 and SG2) -- potentially they could be user added later?

@@KeepOnTesting Hey man the UT89X turned up today & I have to say straight up,the build quality of this meter is exceptional,UNI-T have really come a long way,they are no longer the meter that people quietly smirked at,but now a serious player, I'm an electrician & I have had many meters over the years & some of them have been pretty ordinary,I had one by that Co.that begins with "F" & this one sh!ts all over it,I don't care about brands so much as performance, features & build quality & this meter ticks all the boxes as far as I am concerned & I love the fact that it has some weight to it,I don't like meters that feel like toys,I think the thing that really surprises me is,it seems like it should cost hundreds,I can't believe you can get a meter like this for $40.00 it just doesn't seem right but hey,not complaining, it'll be on the job tomorrow morning so interested to see how it goes,I am pretty confident it'll do just fine, also interested to see what the other guys say when they notice it,I'm certainly not going to hide it,I am seriously impressed & I think they will be too,thanks again for the video because although I had already ordered it when I watched it,it reassured me that I had made a good choice & as for it not being auto-ranging, I simply don't care, things are lazy enough in this day & age,I think I will live if I have to change a setting.Anyway take it easy & I'll be watching your channel in the future.👍⚡

hello, nice review... I would like to know if this model can measure frequency in dc? (For example... PWM) since another model of this brand (ut139c) only measures frequency in ac and the respective manuals they have it is not very clear if they measure frequency in ac or dc (except in ut139c)... thank you.
Unfortunately not..AC only. Most multimeters are designed to read Hz in AC mode...DC usually never pulses and if they do most multimeters would struggle in the kHz mode.
@@KeepOnTesting Thanks for answering so quickly... and how do I measure frequencies in DC with a multimeter that measures frequencies in AC? I saw that it could be done by connecting a capacitor in series with the circuit to be measured but I did not find information about What capacity should I use nor do I know if it works in all cases.

Privet..I do not recall a multimeter that offers both functions on the same meter..its either a LED test or Live Wire...I will repost here if I can find one..
Hi, after viewing lots of your reviews I've selected UNI-T UT89X to replace my old Mastech MF890F.
Mastech is bit old and outdated, but the direct impulse for a change was the fact that I needed to measure the output AC voltage of my UPS (EXIDE PRB300i "OneUPS Plus"), and the Mastech showed a strange 170 V, because it's a non-TrueRMS multimeter.
I am very pleased with the build quality and features of the UNI-T UT89X, and as soon as it arrived, I checked it on the UPS. The TRMS showed its superiority - the measured voltage was fluctuating around 230 V, which is good.
I was very surprised, however, to see that the measured frequency was... around 98 Hz !!! (?)
The UT89X shows nice 50 Hz when the UPS is powered from the outlet, but when it's working on the battery, its output is not a sinewave, and UT89X shows strange things. I believed that a TRMS multimeter would do its job correctly, and it doesn't. What is even stranger - the old Mastech shows something around 49 Hz, no matter if the UPS works on the mains or on the battery.
There is one more thing that is really a problem for me in this multimeter. I often work at night and don't want to wake my family. Mastech is a completely noise-free multimeter, even its continuity testing gives a nice scratchy sound that does not bother anybody around. On the other hand, the UT89X makes loud, sharp sounds on literally every ocassion. That would not be a problem if I could switch it off when I need silence, but this is impossible.
I like many features of this multimeter a lot, but I will probably return it - I can't use it at night (and - by the way - am quite surprised with its results when measuring a non-sinewave AC current).
Basing on your expertise, could you please recommend me a silent (or customizably silent) and accurate TrueRMS multimeter with a similar functionality than UT89X or MF890F?
It might be more expensive, but preferably under $200.

Hello friend, I have doubts about this multimeter and I hope an expert like you can help me please, what model of varistor can be installed to complement the input protection. I see that it has a small ptc, about 5mm, I measured it and its value is of 1.5 k, I have varistors model 07d431k and 07d561k and I don't know which one to put, I have also observed that they come in series configuration and that in this configuration the voltages are added, so I don't know if I put two 07d561k supports the small ptc this type of varistor ?

Thx for reaching out..I don't have the schematics for this circuit so I'd be amiss if I gave you any specific advice. Suffice to say I would not attempt the upgrade you're thinking about. I've used this dmm in a few high voltage scenarios and I've never had any issues. If you attempt the upgrade you might inadvertently negate your input protection if it's not done correctly.

That's tough...absolutely 2 different multimeters..one AUTORANGING one Manual. If you do lots of bench work choose the UNI-T, otherwise ZT-Y is for uou!

Hello! How to enter calibration mode? There are other multimeters, everything is much simpler there. In this case, there are no markings on the board and pressing the buttons does not help either.
Unfortunately there is NO calibration mode on the UT89X.

Which is better, 89x or 89xd? I saw 89x has not 6mA, why LED function is so cool?
I prefer the large LED testing range of the XD, it's unique to dmms and not many have it. YMMV, but if temp is more critical for your applications the 89X is also a great choice.

Hi. Any ideas to explain this? I have just received my new UT89XD multimeter. I was testing a bunch of caps with no probs. 1 of them (the biggest I have, and use) is a brand new 15000uF 35V nichicon LS (M). After the charging Led on the multimeter goes green the display just shows OL. Continuity shows nothing over the capacitors legs. What is going on? and why is it not showing a reading around 15mF? This multimeter is capable to 100mF. Thx
Try shorting the cap with a Screwdriver 🪛 and try again. Also make sure the multimeter batteries are good. 👍 Let me know.

So, I used the screwdriver method and 1st time I got a spark and slight noise like a crack. After repeating this shorting, no more sparks !
Measuring it now works regularly, each time showing 13.7mF exactly. After each check I shorted the legs and without spark.
Is a 13.7mF reading indicative of a good, healthy 15mF (15000uF) cap ?
P.S. I decided on this MM after your video. 1 for caps but mainly for Led testing. As a repairer and renovator of pinball machines, LEDs are used almost everywhere now, so this LED test was for me, No.1 :-)

Why LED mode on ut89xd model is so important??? Can you give me an example of repairing case on wich you use this Led mode?? I don't understand why most people recommand the ut89xd and not the ut89x ??!!!! Only for led mode?! Why is this useful to know the forward voltage of a led???
Simple..not many multimeters have a dedicated LED model that can go as high as 20v based on consumption. It's useful for a variety of arduino , raspberry pi and other projects.
Have the 89XD. Good bang for buck.
I got the 89XD on a BG sale for $27.99, couldnt pass that up its usually around $38 or more.

How to turn that annoying beep off when you rotate the handle?
Not sure if it can be disabled. Try Holding down on the select button when you turn it on. If that doesn't work, try holding down on the hold button when you turn it on. Let me know.

Im certain Ill like it, ive been following Darrens reviews for awhile and trust his opinion as a tech and fair reviewer. I was always kind of a one-sided auto-range fanboy, but im also not a tech and have recently started to also see the positive side of manual ranging, for one thing I often find myself trying to speed up the reading by going to manual range. One of those things a tech would know better than a layman such as myself. I like the fact we have Darrens reviews of the budget meters to offset the anti - budget meter bias of dave jones and others who dont understand not all of us need a $400 NASA hardened multimeter---lol
Again, my opinions are only that - opinions - they dont make me right. Im a crotchety old guy and probably less tolerant than some, though back in the 70's and 80's I was listening to some seriously loud live concerts and home stereos, might be why im half deaf now---lol

Really they are different multimeters. I would choose the 89XD because it's more powerful and robust.

Out of the 3 you've listed I would opt for the UNI-T UT89X.. With the Aneng being a close second. I discovered and learned about electronics with a manual ranging multimeter. It's a great way to learn and makes you think more about what you're doing... That said, if you don't have the patience or time then an Autoranging meter is simpler to deal with and more forgiving. Both are great meters.

@@SNUSMUMRIKful My favourite is the UNI-T UT89XD.. The meter has a very cool LED testing mode that's very unique. It also has a visual Capacitance Charging Indicator... Well made and accurate.. A really great dmm. Only Con /Negative may be its Non Autoranging but that depends on the user..

Definitely, there's lots of multimeters to choose from but only a few really stand out.. With the 89X/89XD you get a great quality build, a ton of features, full size dmm, nice display with autobacklight and good ranges.. Hard to beat!
Thanks for the attempt in reviewing the products. Presentation could be better though - perhaps consider - while you are speaking - to have the meters and each function actually in camera shot when connecting components and dialing options, and also removing any annoying background music....

@@KeepOnTesting in the round selector of the 89x there's not 6mA, it jumps to 60mA
Good question, not sure why UNI-T negated the 6mA from the mA range..always nice to be able to step down for some better resolution at those low ranges.
from uni t multimeters I like it very much 61E I even have a nice look this multimeter looks like ferrari somehow is too much all given to the look, although I like the light warning and I think it's a good move from the uni t. but I like the look 61e more Now, I'm going to combine these innovations with this look, I think it would be a good hit, it's my opinion, and as far as the probes look, they seem to be improving.
Indeed, lookwise it's hard to please everyone..the new line is very modern looking. Also, Uni-t has definitely been putting out some decent probes to go with their meters which I'm happy to see. Thanks for Watching! !

I'm not sure of the purpose of comparing the readings between the different UNI-T models. I'd prefer to see the model being reviewed compared to a Fluke 87 or a very good bench DMM.

@@soundengineer6332 That's correct, but neither do most multimeters. Inductance is best measured using an LCR Meter.
I hate manual multimeter like this. The selector scale high risk of wear out.
Honestly, having used many manual multimeters the past 20 year's I have never had a selector switch fail me. 👍

100,000 uF or 100mF is the cap range on this great dmm.
Darren Walker i have 10 000 uf capacitance tester,so equivalent to 10 000mf?
