    Hello! This is indeed the arrangement of an old traditional Russian gipsy song called "Friendship" ('Druzhba') which has been performed in a lot of different forms throughout the 19th century: female voices, males voices, family choir, instrumental (generally violin, guitar and clarinet, occasionnally cymbalum). It was still very popular in the 20th century. The last time I heard it live, it was in 2004, in a street of St-Petersburg, sung a capella by an old lady who still had a powerful voice. It is still enjoyable in the ragtime style though! And quite well played too...

    • @jesuizanmich
      @jesuizanmich 8 років тому +2

      +rumi al-afghani ragtime is a genre of music which is characterised by its syncopated, or "ragged", rhythm.
      This piece has that ragtime rhythm. The difference between this one and other popular rags---such as Maple Leaf Rag---is that this in a minor scale, and doesn't have too many of those common 3 note loops we see in rags by Scott Joplin.

    • @spaceseal2268
      @spaceseal2268 8 років тому

      ahh i see, i was beginning to think i might just have a slightly narrow view on ragtime as i have only realy every played or listened to Scot Joplin and zez confrey in terms of ragtime.

    • @jeffmoore9487
      @jeffmoore9487 8 років тому

      I think ragtime wasn't just the kind of melodic business Joplin and other Americans used, but rather music that had an impovisational character, and where it might just take off in another direction all together before coming back to the theme. This does that but with more European (and gypsy) melodies. So it mostly qualifies as ragtime.
      But as we all know, all categories of music are attempts at using language labels on musical forms, and it fails at some point especially when the music is a hybrid of cultures, styles, and technique.
      Someone said; "It is a useful to talk about music as it is to dance about architecture".

    INCORRECT CAPTION: While this syncopated guitar piece is lovely, it is NOT RAGTIME. Ragtime is DANCE MUSIC, and this piece changes tempo, persuading dancers to fire the guitarist, hence is NOT DANCE MUSIC, hence is NOT RAGTIME.

      He has his left hand in the "violin position"...the only way to play a string instrument. Bass players, Viola etc..They all do it to have control over the instrument."PUSH OUT THAT WRIST! Yes... I know it hurts!"
      Dangling a rock guitar from a long leather strap from the neck, below the knees and below the level of the baggie arsed jeans, puts the untrained left hand into a position where it can do nothing sensible and don't they prove the theory!!

    C'est vraiment une excellente pièce musicale, mais ce n'est pas une pièce de ragtime malgré quelques similitudes avec le genre ragtime classique, peut-être aussi novelty avec le petit côté syncopé. C'est vraiment une pièce se rapprochant un peu du jazz manouche à la Django ainsi que la musique de guitare classique espagnole.
