    When you wear out the drill bit that came with your box of tapcons, I recommend Erwin as a replacement bit.
    Bought a 5 pack on Amazon super cheap, because if they wore out as fast as the drill bit that came in the box of tapcons I would be needing five.
    Well surprise surprise!!!
    The Irwin bits are so much harder that I'm still on the first bit and the project is done.
    Also the hole is slightly different with the Irwin bits and the tapcon Fasteners actually grip harder in the hole drilled by the Irwin bits.
    😮

    As someone who grew up with an elderly father that never had the energy for DIY thus never passed down knowledge of such things, these videos are a blessing to a homeowner such as myself. Thank you, Clint.

    There is an entire level of hell just for people who use slotted tapcons....

    That's amazing that a little 12 volt drill can do that.
    Battery tools have really come a long way.
    Cool video, thanks, Clint !!!!

    Tapcon screws are crap I used them to tie down my downspout and couldn’t remove the screws and all they did is break off the tops off when taking the screws out to replace my broken downspout. Hope another manufacturer can come up with a way better screw for concrete construction.

    Yo Clint! You're exactly right in doing both wood and concrete in hammer mode. As I live in Florida and don't know if a hurricane is gonna DEFINITELY hit our area until about 12-24 hours ahead of time. In that moment of discovery, I don't have time to measure already-drilled holes in the concrete block wall to match the 5/8" plywood sheets being used to board over windows and doors. Lay the wood over and DRILL, baby, drill! Then, yes, the impact driver for the tapcons for the final step of that one particular hole. Yes, I see each step of each fastener to completion one by one by one. That way, I'm not going over the entire 4x8 sheet 2 and 3 times. I'd rather change out tools (twice) for each individual penetration. Not one single sheet of boarded up plywood has ever failed that I've fastened. Up to 150 mph winds and driving rain for a nonstop 12-24 hour period. Serious stuff. Oh, btw, I use Phillips-drive tapcons. Not intentionally, they were free, so....

    I tried the otherday to use Tapcons. The included Tapcon drill bit took forever. Then when i drove the Tapcon in, it wouldn't stay in. Tried a different Tapcon size and got a Diablo mansonary bit, the masonary drill bit worked better but again the Tapcon wouldn't stay in. Then tried a new hold with the Diablo masonry bit, the bit burnt up and melted the tip red hot. Gave up and returned all Tapcons and drill bits.

    If I want to attach a 2x4 to a cinder block wall to build a patio off of it, do you recommend Tapcons or Ramset nails? Which one is strongest? Thanks for the informative videos Clint.

    Why can’t you just use the impact driver for the whole job?

    • @meagaindave2049
      @meagaindave2049 10 місяців тому

      An impact driver can "handle" hammering into concrete with a masonry bit, it's not recommended. Use the right tool for the right job. 💯

    • @meagaindave2049
      @meagaindave2049 10 місяців тому

      No. He's merely stating that for a DIY homeowner tackling a small project that an SDS rotary hammer drill could be overkill. That's all.

    • @AB-nu5we
      @AB-nu5we 10 місяців тому +1

      @@meagaindave2049 My comment was tongue-in-cheek, hence the 'ha ha'. Yeah, a SDS Max drill is way overkill for basic masonry work.

    What about stucco

    • @meagaindave2049
      @meagaindave2049 10 місяців тому +1

      Stucco is layered directly over concrete block. Therfore, it's fine.

    Ramset. It happens faster than you can say the name.

    • @meagaindave2049
      @meagaindave2049 10 місяців тому

      Using a pin gun through wood into concrete is just asinine. The fastener will blow right through the wood and, soley, into the concrete. Useless.
