@@RestoreIt I like your videos a lot. This not professional high level restoration of course. But it's even more interesting like reality show with a little bit drama sometimes)))
Considering the name of the channel “ Restore It” I’m not sure why people not liking the chassis work. I’m enjoying it. Just keep up the good work. And enjoy what you are doing.
Really good series, and I am a sub for a while now. Just an observation, (no judgement) The chassis portion of the rebuild seems repetitive and not really the same as the other parts of the e30 restoration. I love the channel, but personally I don’t want to watch someone learning to weld. It’s not as relaxing and enjoyable as the other bits. After seeing the list of replacement panels/pieces still to come on this... to me it’s just too much. The chassis should probably have been crushed. It’s too far gone if there is more new material than old. Again just my thoughts as to the popularity of these bits. LOVE the channel and will continue watching after the chassis portions are done. Great work as always on the videos
My brain hurts only just from imagining how much work will all this take. You are a madman and I love it. Hopefully you won't go mad before finishing this project :D
I am enjoying this series on the chassis repair. I have a project that I have been dreaming about for years...decades! Being over 60, I am now in a position that it MAY become a reality. Seeing how you solve problems with your project will help me solve very similar problems I will have with mine. Thanks for documenting your progress and putting it up on the University of UA-cam, you’re a good professor!
I love it that you are totally honest and show both the good and bad parts, I'm also learning how to weld and I just love this. Keep it up, haters can go somewhere else(if there are haters).
You are doing a good job. I spent 6 months for welding my car. It takes a lot of time but it's worth every minute. Can't wait to see the next episode. 👍
I think its really nice that you show all of this work. People just cant imagine how much work it takes to restore a rusty car, they are used to tv series where they are finished a whole car in 30 mins...
Don't sweat it about what people think. You're doing a fine job especially being it's your first full restoration. Can't wait to see it when it's done!
Coming on great! Keep the episodes coming. One tip I found helpful, one amateur to another - make your repair patch before chopping out the rust. Then use the repair piece tacked into place as a template to guide your cut with a 1mm slitting disc. You will end up with a perfectly fitting patch with a 1mm slit around the perimeter. Ideal for butt welded panels where the weld will be ground flush.
I'm enjoying this series. These vids are a good look at where rust can develop in cars this age. If someone is restoring a car for the first time this info is invaluable. Keep up the great work!
@@RestoreIt What I really meant to say is I'm a big fan of the e30 and at some stage I'd love to work on one. Your videos are a huge encouragement and I love the welding stuff because I know I'd be in the exact same position if I ever have the balls to actually go ahead with it
I'm really enjoying watching you do the metal work on this rebuild. It's interesting how much of the shapes and sizes you have to figure out and your solutions are ingenious.
From your first videos where seemingly flat pieces we're difficult for you, I was super impressed with the piece you made around the seat bracket. You definitely have stepped up your game 1000% since your first welding videos
You deserve a lot of respect for your hard work and the undying passion that you have for seeing such a mammoth task through all the way. What's so intriguing is your dedication towards a car that you know is one of BMWs best Thank you for the excellent thourally enjoyable videos
Hell yeah man! :D It has to be done. I will try and condense a lot of the panel stuff into as few episode as possible. Heck I want to get this out of the way as well haha. Thanks Dude!
I'll admit I'm not as into the chassis as I am the individual parts you were doing before, but I DO still enjoy this, it's rather interesting to see how you do things, what workarounds you have to find, etc. Nice job, keep it up!
Thanks dude! It really is. I'm trying to keep the channel going whilst leanring and making my way through it. Quite the consuming task I tell ya! Thank you man.
@@RestoreIt Yes It must be I get tired just for watching all the work I get "tired" imagine doing the work my self, I could not do it. So props to you.
This process HAS to be done.. Spending that amount of hours and not getting rid of all rust would be nuts! Keep up the good work, enjoying the series, and seeing how your skills improve, *thumbs up
Looking good! I'm glad to see your taking your time patching all the rust holes. The more attention to detail you give the car now will pay off in the end when you perform the final paint job, and then you can appreciate all your hard work. FYI my Son and I have been looking at "grey market" Mercedes Benz we have been avoiding the ones that were originally from the UK like your BMW thanks to your videos we avoid them. 👏👍😁
Thank you DJ! You're not wrong, this really is a long term project that will pay off in the end :) Oh, well I'm glad I can help in showing you how not to buy a car :D
@@RestoreIt Lol, we were looking at a Mercedes 200TE right hand side driver from Great Britain. He stated in his ad that he had just repainted the car and we noticed in the pictures the rust was bubbling under the new paint in the corners of the wheel wells and the corners of the rear hatch and front window. I thought myself if "Restore it" is replacing that much metal in his BMW what am I going to find underneath that Benz. I'm glad we didnt buy it, he was asking way too much anyway with no AC. Lol 😆
Great Video. I might have a tip though. When welding, always choose a if possible identical angle between the welding torch and both pieces of metal. Unless one metal is thinner. In that case, lean towards that thinner piece with the torch to keep of some of that heat. Cheers.
Now Mate! The replacement parts are the way to go! But with that said, you are getting a lot of practice before the good stuff arrives. Keep up the great content. Rodzilla from Texas.
It´s much more fun watching someone else do this than it was to do myself. Btw those what you call "front lifting points" are not jacking points by any means. They are remnants of the bodyshell being attached to the assembly line back in the day. And they are the main reason the front footwells on these rust like yours. And mine. So unless you´re doing a museum-style restoration don´t put them back. E30 front lifting points are in the sills just like the ones in the back.
Very true Dc and good point. I will think about what i'm going to put back in. I like what E30GarageNoway have come up with. Kind of removes the exposed join of two pieces.
Nice work! Makes me glad that my e30 came from and resides in a dry climate 😊 No rust on mine to speak of, and I intend on keeping it that way! Cheers and thanks for the video series.
I appreciate the whole series. Gives me a little bit of confidence to do some of the work I have been putting off due to cost. My fear is screwing it up and then having to pay someone to do it anyway.
Get yourself a mini die grinder with the Roloc head. Much easier to grind compound curves and welds back. Planishing the weld with dolly and hammer will also help. Can also recommend spot weld drills. Removes just the spot, without going completely through to the panel below. Don't give up. My Porsche chassis took me 2000 hours...lots of grinding and welding. ;-)
