Doesn't excuse what he's doing at the restaurant. It's his responsibility to find a balance between the two. If he can't, then he needs to face the reality that he isn't cut out for it. Gordon only excused 1 burnt out chef on the show and that was because he was being overworked by management, not because the chef himself can't find a balance between work life and personal life.
