Thanks for sharing such a fascinating project! I wouldn't be surprised if that very radio was playing when President Roosevelt made his "Day of Infamy" address after the attack on Pearl Harbor!
Odd loop antenna. Has an active antenna loop and a passive loop around it which one side goes to ground and a .002 uF cap which connects to the other end of the outside loop. The other end of the cap is where you then connect a long wire for an external antenna! Riders Volume 11 Emerson 11-22 shows the setup!
I liked how you finally figured it out. I was sure it was alignment, or a tube, then you said the antenna. surprise. funky old radio, that would sound better with the speaker glued with tacky glue I suppose, maybe. good job.
I just bought an Emerson model 336 which is very similar to that one and it turned out to be another hack job similar to an RCA model 8X541 that had some missing parts. It still doesn't work;I need to know how to test picofarad caps.My capacitor testor tests for nanofarad caps. That's new to me-I don't know about those.
If your skilled enough I think you can make a copy by wood to these 3-d printers. Clay mold use the knob For impression then add liquid resin then prime and paint. If amazon doesn’t have antique parts. It may be time for a you tuber to make em I just enjoy seeing old stuff come back to life.
Stephen Hinkle, Probably not. These older (and larger) IF transformers had adjustable trimmer capacitors. You see the two adjustment holes on top of the square aluminum cans. They are unlike the newer (smaller) IF transformers, where there are adjustable tuning slugs on top and bottom of the coil. These (newer) ones have the dreaded silver mica caps that, by now, could likely be bad. I've replaced more than my share of these. No fun.
Couldn't figure out how to do that. The feature may be disabled on your end; no option for messaging when I go to "andygozzo72". But THANKS for taking an interest!
I love it when someone that no ,s what he doing, and will fix it right, who ever had it last did a bad job of repair, people don't realize, they aren't making these any more,I love tube radios, sound.if you ever GEF a clock radio I can use daily ,maybe you sell it to me,is that radio when for sale.
Do they make replacement IF cans anymore,or something new to replace them .and someone ,has to make replacement knobs ,first seeing this radio and how bad it was ,I glad you were able to get it work so well.

Great job Jason. Appreciate how you put your whole heart into your projects.
If it has field coil, you can use that for voltage fitering.

Thanks. That's very possible Back then when the president spoke ,sometimes small crowds would gather around a radio set to listen.
Chet Pomeroy Or even Truman's warning prior to V-J Day.
Nice job on the repairs! Enjoyed the video very much. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for checking it out. Enjoyed yours as well.

Wow! You're amazing. The Radio plays really nice.

Did you ohm out the old resistors? Great video and Great content 👍
I had a radio that closely resembles this model here. It was made by General Electric Radio &Television circa 1940
Nice work 👍👏🎶
Another job well done.Good work.
Thanks!
Great work! Just curious, what do you do with your radios after you repair them?
Have you checked the capacitors in the base of the IF transformers? Could be silver mica disease.

Looks good.
Helpful video. Learned some good tips from it.
Their are places on the internet that have all the parts you need to restore that radio. Even the board for the antenna.
Nice work, getting that old dog working.I wonder could you tell me where you order your capacitors from?I need a good source, thanks.

Does anyone know where I could find a POWER SWITCH (button) for a Sony TFM -8100 W?
Yes, I have a picture (exterior). Got email? I can send. Thanks for taking an interest.

can I replace a 35 volt 3uf capacitor with a 33uf or 1uf capacitor?
+Brian smith - Not recommended. Closest standard values would be 3.3 uf or 5 uf at the same voltage.
I think i'll buy you a Lazy Susan for Christmas!
Hilarious! Good one.
Should test snd replace the tubes if needed
The dial still read in meters.

Radio Rescue I have a tube radio from 60s with a 25mfd-25wv capacitor what do you recommend replacing it with?
+Brian smith - If you haven't gotten an answer, the closest standard value would be 33 uf, at 25 or 35 volts.
that sounds like floresent light bulb distortion
Little bit like making a silk from a sows ear
round and round
That is so ironic you weren’t going to do a video cuz I am also not gonna watch it.
check you mica caps
You did good, for the pile of crap it was.

This was one jerryrigged this radio 📻
I am Jerry, and I can assure you if I had rigged it, it would have looked much better then that radio!
