    This is one of the first videos I've seen where the horn is actually forged out instead of stock removal of rail track

    This is the 1st times I have seen someone forge a rail track anvil. Most just cut them. . That is a sweet little tool. Well done Sir :)

    Well, I didn't hear Olga complain when she gave birth to the baby anvil! Very funny. Appreciate your forging the horn, not just cutting it in like most do.

    I wouldn't bet on the hardest basted on the video. But my Grandfather, made one back in the 40's that I can still use today. It's lite, and I do many turnings on it. I would never use it for hard Foraging

    My anvil is a 135 lb square piece of aneald 4140 works beautifully for me and I use an old railroad spike driving sledge hammer head for a horn. I feel iam very fortunate to have what I have. Love your content Roy. Always thx for inspirational videos!!

    This is your funniest vid so far...with the baby anvil dropping to the 70's porn music play while making the anvil is a comedic masterpiece.

    the best thing you can do to a track anvil is weld every piece you cut off back to the center web.... everything you cut off is reducing mass... if you are luck enough to score some joiner plates,, simply bolting them to the rail will reduce ring, bounce, and improve things greatly

    • @brysonalden5414
      @brysonalden5414 Рік тому

      It will still be a track anvil! I don't believe they are noted for their mass, no matter what the design.

    Little editing tip: to make your intros extra spicy and clean, switching between shots to the beat of the song can give a really really cool effect. Other than that love the video!

    Did you just choose not to drift a hardy hole through it, or is there some sort of functional or practical reason that this particular type of anvil shouldn't have one?

  • @1958davidmemes
    @1958davidmemes Рік тому +2

  • @KeithBair
    @KeithBair Рік тому

    Awesome! I've been toying with the idea of making a rr track anvil for use inside with leatherwork. Mine will be mainly stock removal though, unless I can convince my brother to come strike for me 😆

    • @KeithBair
      @KeithBair Рік тому

      Also, for some reason there's no "like" button on this video? I can see the video has likes, but I have no way to like it?

  • @melgross
    @melgross Рік тому

    It’s beautiful. But I would have done the support a bit differently. I would have had the vertical web extent at an angle further up to the rear of the striking face for more support. The problem with railroad anvils is the the vertical web is so thin. Also just how hard is it? I’ve heard varying opinions, but I’ve never had a piece to test myself.

    Nice rebound, how did it go for hardness?👍

  • @aaronkokesch3593
    @aaronkokesch3593 Рік тому

    Have you ever tried to forge weld pieces of steel to the sides of the vertical section of the track to give it more mass? Also have you tried to forge weld a piece of higher strength steel to the top? Btw I enjoyed the video very much.

    • @melgross
      @melgross Рік тому

      I think the purpose of these anvils is to be made by people who aren’t blacksmiths, but need a small anvil that’s not CI. They have to be able to make them easily, without the use of a forge.
