Just one day between two different international series for South Africa with two different teams. It is a new normal in this modern cricketing world. The Proteas completed the whitewash against Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series on Monday, and they will host Pakistan in an important all-format tour, consisting of three T20Is and as many ODIs and two Tests, starting on Tuesday (December 10) with the first T20I at Kingsmead, Durban.
The last time South Africa took the field in a T20I series, they lost the assignment 1-3 to India at home. Regular skipper Aiden Markram will miss this T20I series, and the wicketkeeper batter Heinrich Klaasen will lead the 2024 T20 World Cup runners-up against the Men in Green.
Markram, who played in the Test series against the Lankans, has been given a break, along with four others - Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Tristan Stubbs - due to the quick turnaround between the two series. However, these five players will return for the ODI series, which is set to kickstart on December 17.
Matthew Breetzke, Kwena Maphaka and Ryan Rickelton will join the T20I set-up following their Test commitments against Sri Lanka. They are most likely to be available for the second game
