one of the best splittin tools on the market
Its fantastic!
Not worth the money
I'd rather one of your tazzies @Buckin' Billy Ray Smith
@@THEMIDNIGHTCHOPPERhow? It has a 20 year warranty and will literally last forever. At $200 that’s $10 year…
Great video And review! Will add that axe to my collection. Thanks Chris!
Thanks James!
Looks like you had an enjoyable and productive time with your new axe.well done.
Thank you
Nice to see this axe being used and reviewed. I own one as well as the GB maul and have found that the maul hardly gets used because this one is so capable.
I love this axe! It's one of my favorite!
Now thats a good splitting axe! Beautiful tool and good video sir!
Hey thank you!
Just a beautiful tool buddy. I would use it a lot and take good care of it. That’s what they were made for. Nice work.
I do enjoy all of the GB axes I have. They make very nice tools.
Even bigger than I thought it was. Nice profile on that, and I love the shorter handle.
I do as well!
Why do you both, prefer a shorter handle on a splitter?
@@lukasking2573 I personally want a shorter handle, 28" to 32" for everything. More control and accuracy.
nice work man,I agree with buckin I have that axe and I also have the small splitting axe they were both gifts from my wife. they are spendy but the craftsmanship is 100% top-notch and they absolutely do the job they were built for looking good killer keep up the good work
Thank you!
Only Gransfors I have used is the Small Splitting axe and it was amazing. Something about using a tool that is designed and setup well that makes it seem to work perfectly. The thing I noticed most about it was the head seemed substantial (for a small splitting axe) and had weight to it, but swinging the axe, it felt lighter than I expected.
They make great tools!
I got the maul and splitting hatchet by GB. Love them. Great workers. As soon as I'm done, they get wiped off withg a damp cloth, oiled and touched up with an oilstone if necessary. Takes 5 min tops.
I have a large GB Splitting Ax. I really like it. I have hand split firewood for over 40 years. I never split wood directly on the ground. I personally find it easier to use a short chopping block/stump on the ground and place the piece I'm splitting on top. Much less bounce. More solid feel.
This GB Splitting Ax is the best I've ever used. The lighter weight and faster swing speed hits very hard and is the way to go for most rounds today. You can swing this all day. If you need more get the GB Splitting Maul. I have that too. Lol. I wish this splitting ax handle was a few inches longer. Maybe 34" long total. Generate more swing power. I have the Fiskars X27 too. But GB is my go to.
Nice video.
Thank you
We are on the exact same page Sir, my thoughts exactly, 👍🎄🇮🇪
Yeah the ground soaking up a lot of the impact.. would preform even better if chopping on a solid stump.
I like the handle shape and length. Looks like it either splits or bounces a lot like a maul no middle ground. Cool review!
It didn't notice any bouncing? It's a decent splitter overall
Good review. I like mine, I've had it for about 3 years. Last year we had some Ukrainian friends helping us with wood. Those guys are machines! As fast as I could buck them, they had them split and loaded.( It was intresting how it bothered them that my wife wanted to help, they wouldn't let her do much). But, anyways, all three of them preferred the GFB over the Fiskars or the 6lb "American" maul. To me, it seems to stick more than the x27, but not by much.
Nice axe Chris. Ash looks like some pretty favorable wood for hand splitting
Its sometimes really easy!
I have one of these and I have been rather impressed with it!
It works well!
Nice tool! I think the shorter handle definitely has a place in your splitting arsenal.
I like it
I think that is going to be my next addition to my collection. Should have done it years ago. They are really expensive and hard to find right now, especially the long handle.
It's a very nice maul!
I purchased the long handled version five or six years ago. It's a beautiful tool but I wish the handle was two inches longer, 👍🎄🇮🇪
@@TheToolnut I agree 100%. Would make this tool even better. Hit with more power and speed!
Nice work, as usual, Killer. I bought the smaller version about twelve years ago, when they could be had for $115. I shoulda bought more, eh?
Man, that would be nice! Haha! Yes! Should have bought more
That looks like a nice axe, i don't own a Gransfors yet, but it's on my list! Lately i've been eyeballing one of the Brant and Cochran Maine wedge axes, just haven't talked myself into pulling the trigger yet.
I'd like to have one of those one day. Sooner than later I'll get one.
Squeeze the trigger, never pull, 👍🎄🇮🇪
BTW I like how sharp GB axes and mauls are because they are a lot less likely to bounce; they more likely embed and a bouncing axe or maul is to my thinking much more dangerous. A few minutes or less with an oilstone (I use an arkansas) will keep your tools in tune.
🔥🧡👊🏼👍🏼 it does the job!
Sure does!
I just found your channel and I’m enjoying the content. Can I get your opinion on the Adler Long Splitter vs the Adler Super Splitter ? I believe you really like the GB but lean toward the Adler ?
Adler axes are number 1 in my book. Can't go wrong with either one. I like the long splitter because of the lighter weight. The Super splitter is for when nothing else works. If I had to sell every wood splitter I own except 1, I'd keep the long splitter.
@@KillingerUSA I’m 5’7 175 and new to splitting wood and thought about the X27 but for about $60 more I could get the Long Splitter. Didn’t really want to get the GB because of the price unless it has some kinda wood splitting magic in it. lol
Nice chopping !
Thank ya!
how does it compare to the Adler maul you have. I used the Adler on 30" oak rounds....it performed well..... when knots weren't in the way
The adler is king. Its also heavier so it should be.
What do you think about the short handle? I certainly wouldn't recommend this to a novice because of that length. Seems to work well in that timber which I assume is ash. Pretty long rounds so it's a good test.
Yup you just called it ash in the video haha. I've also found that the ash near the stump is tough to split! I rived some once for handles and it was surprisingly difficult for such a good riving wood.
I prefer the shorter handles for sure. More control I feel.
Nice ax! You said you bought it locally, where was that if you don't mind?
Leimans hardware
@@KillingerUSA was lehmans?
@@ronaldikey3421 that's correct, typo
www.lehmans.com/
Awesome video man but how come youre not using a hoggestabbe?
What is that?
Mr. Killinger, I don't ever want to think how much that cost, I'll stick with the Fiskars Isocore 8lb Maul. The was a cool $60 last October.
Iso core is hard to beat
8 pounds? Doesn't that take your soul away?
I have a 4.5 pounds axe wich I hate with a passion.
What do you know about a small axe with the name Falls city kelly works stamped on it
Not much. My favorite Jersey axe is a falls city kelly works
@@KillingerUSA I found one the other day at a yard sale I’m new to the axe world but I figured for 5 dollars it wasn’t a bad deal all I can find out is that it’s very old
Hey Sir!! I just found what appears to be a Genuine Norlund ax with a bunch of other axes that a guy gave me in a trade, I’m new to this so where do I go to figure out what I have?🇺🇸
Well, I have an entire play list on every Norlund ever made on my channel. That's a good place to start.
@@KillingerUSA Yes, I just watched your video for the first time and identified it as a cabin ax🇺🇸
The best axe out there, it goes through logs like a hot knife through butter....
I liked the head profile and size, but the handle seemed on the short side. I'm not that big of a guy at about 5'11" but I always preferred a splitting handle of about 33 to 35 inches long. I guess everyone has their preference though.
We sure do
@@KillingerUSA I think my liking for the longer handle came down to being a smaller guy who needed the momentum of the swing and picking your spots on a log. Oak was 90% of what I split, it meant a lot to how much time you would be spending on one of many, and that could go on all day long after you got done cutting the tree down & cutting it to length during the winter.
How’s it stack up against the Adler??
Adler is king. Just no comparison. Of course, the adler is heavier.
Howdy. I think it might cut better if you put those logs on that block.
Wrong.
@@KillingerUSA That axe didn’t make very quick work like that. My axes, including gransfors works better on a block.
Thats a lot of work.
It's good for ya
First!
Is the Gransfors Bruks a better ax than the Fiskars X 25 or X27?
That's not an easy question to answer. In some ways, yes. Bottom line is they both function well. One is better than the other depending on the wood. Fit, finish and overall Chraftsmenship on The GB is far superior. The GB will do everything the fiskars will do. The GB requires different care and maintenance. The GB has more weight so it will split thinhs the Fiskars can't. But that comes with a price tag. On the other hand, the fiskars can hold its own, requires no maintenance whatsoever and is very forgiving to abuse. If your on a budget, buy fiskars. If you appreciate quality, art and chraftsmenship, buy the GB. If you just love all axes and realize no axe is a 1 size fits all solution. Buy both.
@@KillingerUSA I already have 3 Fiskars :), I really like them, they are beasts, do everything, always and with any tree. I liked the look of the GB, I'm thinking of buying one after watching the videos, but in all the videos, all the GBs split much worse than my X 27... What special care and maintenance does the GB need?
@@woodbalt well it splits more because it's a wider profile and heavier. The handle is wood so it needs to be cared for. Such as kept clean and dry, Oiled, and its not going to tolerate many over strikes. However, it can be replaced. It's Nothing you can't handle, it's just something to consider. When I go to split wood, I take all. The wood tells me which "axe" to use.
@@KillingerUSA GB has very wonderful axes, they look very good... but I wouldn't want to buy an ax that you can only look at, I don't like things that you can't use, an ax has to chop wood, otherwise it's useless, and if an ax costs like 2 Fiskars, then it has must be split at least as much as Fiskar. I myself like the GB long forest ax the most, but I don't have anywhere to use it :))). Thanks for the answer.
👍👍👍👍👍 мой любимый топор!
It's a fantastic axe!
It's not at 30inch handle?
Can't remember
👋
🖐
If I had that, I’d use it…once. Then go grab my X27 out of the mud🤣
Haha
No you wouldn’t 😂🤣
@@ScrewdriverTUNING It would be difficult not gonna lie. But Gransfors Bruk axes are so nice, and I’m so careless🤷🏻♂️
@@IndianaDoug i totally understand. I have a feeling you are not that careless 😁. Just a feeling. I told a buddy of mine that wanted a expensive axe he would break it rite away that he needed the cheep fiskers. Well few hundred dollars later and he now uses the fiskers and hates all other axes. 😂🤣😂. Some folks are very careless
2nd!
😁
I winced when it almost went into the mud.
It's just mud....
So many people freak on the price of these axes, does no one value their time anymore? I've never seen an axe under 100$ that doesn't need several hours work tuning it up. A gransfors is ready out the box. Seams worth it to me. Sure you can pick up a plastic fiskers axe and they are great out the box also but I consider those commercial tools you keep in the truck... A gransfors axe is an heirloom tool, a thing of beauty.
Well said my friend
I wish You had put that slice under the rounds.
Why?
So it wouldn’t go in the MUD.lol
There’s a chopping block rite there 😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂. Joking. They are some tall rounds 24” ????
16"
@@KillingerUSA Oo that was deceiving looked almost the same length at the axe
id like to see less cutting of the video. less editing . great video otherwise
Thanks
You to old for that
Seriously?
There expensive and not a killinger handle
Cant all be winners! Haha!
@@KillingerUSA what was price in store for that axe 300
@@shayn4220 mine was $200 but the price seems to vary
@@KillingerUSA yes the very and are very expensive
Thst straight grained ash should split fairly easily to begin with. You could do the same thing with a fiskers splitting axe, considering it is straight grained.
But this video isn't about the Fiskars, is it?
Put those loggs in a tire and split them. They will not fall over and you dont have to chase them all over gods creation.
You do that. I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Thanks for the advice I didn't ask for.
@KillingerUSA if it works for you thats good. Just makeing a friendly suggestion. I split low and downward to the bottom of the ground also. Sorry if i ruffled your feathers. These channels are for learning and sharing knowledge are they not.
@@John-wr6yo no feathers ruffled. I don't feel like I was chasing anything around. I just don't see the need to drag a tire around the woods with me. I know that's what the people say to do. I personally think it's unnecessary. I guess if anything, I didn't like how you executed your comment. It read as a demand or as if I'm an idiot and never herd of putting a tire down and putting the rounds in the tire. Let's reverse rolls here. Pretend I'm commenting on your axe review video.
" get rid of that tire, your wasting energy by bending over and picking up rounds to place in the tire. Those rounds arnt going far. Use the axe to upright them and stop bending over so much."
